“What’s harsh, is dropping in on a music festival and slaughtering a bunch of young people just trying to enjoy an afternoon”

“What’s harsh, is dropping in on a music festival and slaughtering a bunch of young people just trying to enjoy an afternoon”

A moment of moral clarity from John Kirby, at a White House press briefing.

As of this writing, it appears that Israel has accelerated the attacks on Hamas in Gaza, including some unknown number of tanks and troops entering into northern Gaza. Perhaps we’ll have more clarity in the morning.

There was a moment of moral clarity from John Kirby, at a White House press briefing, when a reporter claimed that Biden’s lack of trust in the statistics of Gaza civilian deaths reported by the Hamas health ministry and acceptance that “innocents” die in war, was “harsh.” (Of course, this is the same Gaza health ministry that claimed Israel bombed a hospital killing over 500 civilians, when there was no Israeli bombing, no bombing of the hospital by anyone, a terrorist rocket hit a parking lot, and any actual civilian deaths were a tiny fraction of what was claimed.)

From Curtis Houck on Twitter:

OMG I can’t believe I’m saying this, but….go John Kirby?

TV Globo’s @RKrahenbuhl: “So, besides saying that he doesn’t have confidence in these numbers, the President went further to say that innocents will die and that this is the price of the war. You also said that.”

Kirby: “I have indeed.”

Krähenbühl: “Don’t you think this is insensitive? There’s being very harsh criticism in about it. For example, the Council of American-Islamic Relations said it was deeply disturbed and call on the President to apologize. Would the President apologize?”

Kirby: “No.”

Krähenbühl: “And does he regret saying something like that?”

Kirby: “What’s harsh — what’s harsh is the way Hamas is using people as human shields. What’s harsh is taking a couple of hundred hostages and leaving families and anxious, waiting and worrying to figure out where their loved ones are. What’s harsh, is dropping in on a music festival and slaughtering a bunch of young people just trying to enjoy an afternoon. I could go on and on. That’s what’s harsh. That is what’s harsh and being honest about the fact that there have been civilian casualties and that there likely will be more is being honest, because that’s what war is. It’s brutal. It’s ugly. It’s messy. I’ve said that before. President also said that yesterday. Doesn’t mean we have to like it. And it doesn’t mean that we’re dismissing anyone of those casualties each and every one is a tragedy in its own right…It would be helpful if Hamas would let [Gazans] leave….We know that there are thousands waiting to leave Gaza writ large and Hamas is preventing them from doing it. That is what is harsh.”

You know what else is harsh?

The stupid is strong with this one.

Yes, it’s crystal clear except to extremists, but he did not say that Israel follows the laws of war, even when casualties of war occur, and has often not acted when it otherwise could. The rules may have shifted to a degree because of the stakes, but not the rules themselves. Only one side cares.

I don’t have much understanding of Israeli politics but seems to me that for quite a few years it has been a mess; considering the fact that they are surrounded by millions of people who want Jewish extermination. Maybe that is changing:

I get the feeling that there is something about the Jewish psychology that predisposes them to a victimhood mentality?

I mean they are surrounded by people only too happy to cut their heads odd yet only last month were firearm laws relaxed?!? For the love of allah, they are surrounded by people who want to kill them at ANY chance!!

Also probably feeds in to why they don’t ever just go and clean out Hamas or Hesbullah, they gotta play nice because they don’t want the world to hate them…but they totally ignore the reality that the world already hates the lm no matter what they do.

I think this is an excellent example of that which brings us together as Americans – that which is much stronger than what divides us politically.

Nothing mcuh for him, as a D., to gain here by speaking with such clarity, but it seems clearly heartfelt. It was certainly forceful.

If we’re to defeat the Jew-Haters both domestically and around the world, we should, I believe, acknowledge that others who we might normally disagree with are on the side of those fighting against the evil that is Hamas.

Political litmus tests that leads to the loss of a single Jewish soldier is a death that is on our hands.

Bind together. Fight the Jew-Haters.

I saw some bulldozers in a report, reminded me of the rachel corrie pancake memorial breakfast….

No, it’s not a joke.

The Rachel Corrie Memorial Committee of Victoria Invites you to a pancake breakfast at Denny’s Restaurant Sunday March 12 , 2006 10 am.

The Public is invited to a memorial pancake breakfast at Denny’s Restaurant on Douglas Street near Finlayson, 10 am, Sunday March 12, 2006 to celebrate the life and untimely death of Rachel Corrie, Peace Activist with the International Solidarity Movement.
—————————————–
she was a member of the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement (ISM) and was active throughout the Palestinian territories. In 2003, Corrie was in Rafah, a city in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli military was demolishing Palestinian houses at the height of the Second Intifada. In an attempt to stop the demolitions as they were being carried out, she stood in front of an armored bulldozer and was subsequently crushed to death by it ……..

I read about that incident, and reports differ (shocking) The one I read said she slipped on the hill created by the bulldozers. Without being an eye witness, I would have to have a video to really believe what exactly happened. Some reports accused the bull dozer operator of willfully driving over her, while watching her terror.. SMH.. terrible accident. Maybe it was a Darwin award kind of thing.. who knows? Hope they enjoy their pancakes.

Darren Award Winner for sure. Standing in front of an armored bulldozer is never a recipe for success. Where did she think she was, Germany sitting on a highway?

Having worked around, owned, operated bulldozers for many years: they don’t leap out from behind bushes. They don’t sneak up on you.
If you get run over by a bulldozer it was because you worked at it.

No, that’s a recipe for pancakes.

It’s astonishing that anyone still contends that Islam is a religion of peace. From Tours, France and Vienna, Austria centuries ago to even modern day northern Europe, it seeks to dominate others, all too often by extreme barbarity. Does anyone follow history anymore or even bother to read?

randian in reply to markhum. | October 27, 2023 at 11:06 pm

Progressives want to hide the history of Islam so they can undermine the west. Kirby mentions that a music festival was hit, but doesn’t mention that Islam forbids music, and that Islam believes itself to apply everywhere, not just where Islam currently rules.

It’s kind of the antithesis of classical USA, isn’t it?
Our Declaration of Independence declares that ALL MEN have the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; it’s just a shame that governments elsewhere tend to oppress one of more of them.

The only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history.

Churchill called it correctly in 1899, nothing has changed except the emergence of Islamic apologists in the media.

“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property—either as a child, a wife, or a concubine—must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.“

    No

Let Israel respond with the same level of respect for “the laws of war” as did Hamas.

Even a retard like John Kirby managed to get something right on occasion.

New Website Documents All War Crimes of Hamas Since October 7th

That web site doesn’t seem to be working

No belligerent is required to make 100% certain that the risk of civilian death/injuries are eliminated. All you gotta do is not target civilians. If civilians are clustered around a legit military target, that’s not an issue for the opposing belligerent to solve. That said if there’s one guy with an AK on the roof of an orphanage dropping a 500 lb bomb on the roof is excessive but using a sniper or a few bursts from a 240B or a .50 cal are fine. However if the basement of the orphanage is a munitions dump, an IED ‘factory’ or a C2 cell it is likely to be a rough day at the orphanage.

John Kirby is my favorite Biden official. He positively looks disgusted whenever his boss or Karine Jean-Pierre have gone off the rails….in full view of the press and its cameras. He is the most normal person in that administration.
