Sen. John Kennedy Reads Graphic Excerpts During Senate Hearing on Public School ‘Book Bans’ to Prove Point

Earlier this week, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on “Book Bans: Examining How Censorship Limits Liberty and Literature.”

As one might expect, the Democrat-run hearing was designed to showcase alleged Republican efforts to “censor” or “ban” innocuous educational content from being made available to young children at public school libraries.

Except as it turns out, the hearing did not go according to plan thanks in part to Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), who took the opportunity to read aloud excerpts from two youth-oriented LGBTQ books that include explicit passages of a highly sexual nature involving young boys (Language Warning):

Kennedy read from two books — “All Boys Aren’t Blue” and “Gender Queer: A Memoir” — both which have been removed from bookshelves in school districts across the country over their sexual conduct.[…]“I put some lube on and got him on his knees and I began to slide into him from behind. I pulled out of him and kissed him while he masturbated. He asked me to turn over while he slipped a condom on himself. This was my ass, and I was struggling to imagine someone inside me. He got on top and slowly inserted himself into me. It was the worst pain I think I have ever felt in my life. Eventually, I felt a mix of pleasure with the pain,” Kennedy read from “All Boys Aren’t Blue.”[…]“I got a new strap-on harness today. I can’t wait to put it on you. It will fit my favorite dildo perfectly. You’re going to look so hot. I can’t wait to have your cock in my mouth. I am going to give you the blowjob of your life. Then I want you inside of me,” he read from “Gender Queer: A Memoir” by Maia Kobabe.

Watch (Language Warning):

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, whom Kennedy’s book readings were directed towards, was there on behalf of his state which has banned so-called “book bans”:

Illinois became the first state to ban book bans with a “Right to Read” law pulling funding from public libraries that limit or prohibit material for “partisan or doctrinal” reasons, a bill championed by Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.“Our libraries have become targets by a movement that disingenuously claims to pursue ‘freedom’ but is instead promoting authoritarianism.” Said Mr. Giannoulias. “Tragically, our libraries have become the Thunderdomes of controversy and strife across our nation – the likes of which we’ve never seen before.”Mr. Kennedy quizzed Mr. Giannoulias, who is also the state librarian, whether “only librarians should decide whether the two books that I just referenced should be available to kids.”

Even Giannoulias admitted that the book content was “disturbing,” but like a typical Democrat with an agenda to push, he didn’t let it detract from his false narrative:

“With all due respect, senator, the words are disturbing, especially coming out of your mouth,” Mr. Giannoulias said. “it’s very disturbing, but we’re not advocating for kids to read porn. We’re advocating for parents, random parents, not to have the ability under the guise of keeping kids safe to try and challenge the world view of every single manner on these issues.”

Another Democrat witness stuck to the script as well:

“I definitely would not give ‘Gender Queer’ to my 5-year-old, I wouldn’t have obviously but you know, to say that you can’t have it in the library at all, to me is ridiculous, that’s censorship,” said Lynette Mejía with Louisiana Citizens Against Censorship.[…]“Really from our point of view, it’s a solution in search of a problem. There really is no pornography in Louisiana libraries, there never has been,” said Mejía.

Purported “journalist” Aaron Rupar inadvertently also proved Kennedy’s point with how he portrayed the Senator as a whack job for the crime of standing up for parents and their children:

Fox News aired clips of Kennedy reading the novels and the vast majority of what they aired was bleeped out.

In a tweet, Kennedy pointed to their airing of the edited version of the video as further evidence of the radical nature of the Democrat alarmists who are kicking up the biggest fusses over parents taking an active role in what their kids get to read and learn in the public school classroom:

I’d say he proved the point not just with his actions during the hearing but also with the tweet, but the Alexi Giannoulias types in this country still try and argue against it, showing that Republicans should continue highlighting these issues as 2024 approaches because Democrats are not going to give up on this easily.

Relatedly, if there’s anything the last two years have shown us about elections, it’s that concerned parents are motivated to act, to take their message not just to school boards but to the politicos in higher levels of government who continue to demonize them while making excuses for why inappropriate content should be accessible to children in taxpayer-funded public schools.
