Border Crisis Hits Cape Cod: Yarmouth, MA, Residents Object to Housing Illegal Immigrants in Motel

Remember when a couple of dozen illegal immigrants were sent to Martha’s Vineyard, and it was like a national emergency? Something similar is now unfolding not far from there in Yarmouth, MA.
Locals are objecting to the idea of housing illegal immigrants at the Yarmouth Resort motel.
NBC News in Boston reports:
‘It’s wrong’: Cape Cod town pushes back after state sends in migrants
Local officials are pushing back on the state after a group of migrant families arrived on short notice over the weekend in Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
In a letter to Gov. Maura Healey Tuesday, the Select Board urged the state not to place migrants at another possible housing site in town, the Yarmouth Resort motel. Officials wrote that the location has “become a nuisance to the town,” does not have an occupancy permit and the property is under a cease-and-desist order. Meanwhile, the issue has become a source of contention in town, according to Town Administrator Robert Whritenour, who said the lack of communication from the state is only exacerbating the problem.
“It’s a fluid process with them day-to-day. They often neglect or forget to contact the local municipal officials,” Whritenour said. “It’s been brutal, quite frankly, in terms of a lot of vitriol that has been directed towards local officials, towards state officials, towards federal officials. And honestly, I think a lot of people are fearful.”…
Meanwhile, protesters have been gathering outside of Town Hall and the hotel where the migrants are staying. One woman was kicked out of a heated five-hour meeting on the subject Tuesday night. Residents voiced concerns over the influx of migrant families, including the cost of health care, education and communication.
“We fear we’re losing Cape Cod,” one woman said at the meeting. “Cape Cod is a special and beautiful place. It’s not just a problem for our town. We need you guys to be working with the other towns to have a unified front on this.”

While it is fun to poke fun at the residents of Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard, all Americans, rich or poor, are deserving of the full force of law enforcement, of laws passed by the legislators that they elected to office.
The social contract between the people and the government has been severed, by the government, by refusing to enforce duly passed laws. Vigilantism will inevitably arise, and rightfully so.

Not a lot of options
As most of us are aware illegal aliens have been flooding into border States for years. Some stayed there but many head off to find work in out of the way, rural places all over the Nation. They worked construction, hospitality, cleaning services or at meat packing plants trading bad working conditions for under the table illegal payments to make ends meet. At least those prior waves of illegal aliens had some sense of work ethic. At least most did anyway.
These recent arrivals don’t seem to be chasing an opportunity to bust their ass through hard work to get ahead and create a better life for themselves so much as demanding a set of guaranteed benefits from Uncle Sugar. Yet the d/prog and Biden refuse to stop them. Now that the border States and rural areas they formerly went to have surpassed the saturation point by prior waves these recent illegals need an alternative landing place. The folks who embraced sanctuary policies and/or where the majority voted to elect leftist d/prog up and down the ballot seem bewildered that illegal aliens are being housed in their communities. In short they FA and now they have FO. Maybe, just maybe a few minds and voting habits will change in there places but I won’t hold my breath.

Illegal alien adults generally don’t qualify for federal food assistance, however their US born children do qualify for SNAP among many, many other programs.
It doesn’t appear that this is being enforced with regards to this current crop of illegal aliens claiming ‘asylum’.
IMO we should end the ‘card’ boondoggle. Use the existing infrastructure, schools, to distribute in kind food assistance aka ‘govt cheese’, rice, beans. No cash should ever be handed out or cards that can be traded for cash at a discount. Thank the credit card companies lobbying for adoption of the EBT card as an efficient, cost effective way to provide benefits. It’s a crock. Them and gullible bleeding hearts who demanded ‘dignity’ for those asking for help.
Of course the school meal assistance of ‘free’ breakfast, lunch and now take home after school bag already provides much of the food for the eligible children and those meals should be subtracted from the total food in the in kind box provided. They should be available and offered on a take it or leave it basis. Turn it down and you didn’t turn down today’s box but every box for the next quarter.
We should focus our assistance on what used to called the deserving poor. The vast majority of tax funded aid programs should be eliminated. We are constantly lectured by leftists that the ‘US is rich enough to provide X and our American values’ demand it. Ok let’s see if average Citizens make the voluntary choice to send some $ to local charities to provide these things. I suspect they won’t do so in anything close to the current expenditure levels.

Nor can we have our current welfare state without undermining competitive, merit based, capitalism in which the incentives align to reward work and punish those who refuse to work. Unfortunately the crony capitalism and rent seeking the lobbying efforts of big corporations achieved has undermined average folks. I’m totally against open borders, but I’d rather spend an evening in a bar drinking with a bunch of illegals than with crazy New England lefties.

Who wants to hear levies tell us about their horrible experiences shopping for the latest organic kale and gluten free whatever but had to drive (their EV) all over town to find them which put them into a charging station with 3/4 sets broken and gasp a homeless person of color approached them and they were alarmed but didn’t want to be perceived as an ‘ist or phobe’ so they let him too close and he jacked their EV?
It continues to shock me when our dear leaders say things like they are trying to make sure ‘their needs are met.” WTF? Who invited them? They came here illegally; they are not our house guests. And soon they will start complaining our services are not good enough for them.
