Feds Now Investigating DeSantis Over Migrant Flights to Martha’s Vineyard

“The Treasury Department is examining Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ migrant transports and whether the Republican governor improperly used money connected to Covid-19 aid to facilitate the flights.”

The Treasury Department is now investigating Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over the migrant flights he sent to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. The question is whether DeSantis used Covid funds to pay for the flights.

Of course, that’s not what this is really about. It’s about harassing an opponent of the Democrats. This is what Democrats do now. They use the power of the government to intimidate and harass their opponents through investigations. They’ve been doing it to Trump since 2016.

Politico reports:

Treasury Department IG probing DeSantis’ migrant flights

The Treasury Department is examining Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ migrant transports and whether the Republican governor improperly used money connected to Covid-19 aid to facilitate the flights.

The agency’s inspector general’s office confirmed to several members of Massachusetts’s Democratic congressional delegation that it planned “to get this work underway as soon as possible” to probe Florida’s spending as part of ongoing audits into how states have used the billions in sent to them as part of the American Rescue Plan, according to a letter provided by Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey’s office.

In an Oct. 7 letter to Markey and five House members, Richard K. Delmar, deputy inspector general for the Treasury Department told the lawmakers that the agency would “review the allowability” of Covid-19 aid to states “related to immigration generally, and will specifically confirm whether interest earned on (the) funds was utilized by Florida related to immigration activities, and if so, what conditions and limitations apply to such use.”

The Biden administration flies migrants all over the U.S. in the dead of night, but naturally, no one asks any questions about that.

Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) is a driving force behind this.

The left cheers on the Democrats for using the power of the state against Republicans.

DeSantis was pretty up-front about where the funding came from. The New York Post reported:

Florida’s state legislature passed a bipartisan budget earlier this year to set aside $12 million in interest off COVID aid for a program to help “the transport of unauthorized aliens from this state consistent with federal law.”

DeSantis, who is favored to win a second term as Florida governor next month, tapped into that funding for the two migrant flights.

Florida State Sen. Jason Pizzo, a Democrat who represents the Miami region, filed a lawsuit against DeSantis last month in a bid to ban him from using state money for any future flights.

Democrats don’t care about the money or misuse of Covid funds, that’s just an excuse for this.

It’s political retribution against DeSantis for doing something that exposed the hypocrisy of Democrats.

Comments

You catch the most flak when you’re over the target. Apparently the communist traitors don’t much like it when they are called on their hypocrisy.

If some part of you still had a temptation to defend the institutions and held out some delusion that it isn’t the same thing as the liberal establishment congratulations this story removed any remaining excuses for that.

Money is fungeable. As long as the amount of Covid Money received was spent on Covid eligible things, there’s really nothing to see here.

Agreed, completely out of their lane and the state govt folks in Florida can, and undoubtedly will, tell them to bugger off.

So why did Biden’s handlers chose them? Because they needed an agency with a reputation thus far untainted by Dem corruption that they could pretend to sic on DeSantis to make a headline.

If Treasury is smart they will drag their feet on this one for 2 years or so.

This “investigation” is 100% purely politically motivated

Why are manure pits so highly regulated? I once asked myself. Now I see what happens when they are not to code.

Traditionally, migrants fill up on grapes in Martha’s Vineyard and fly back south in the fall.

Federal investigation into misuse of Covid funds?

Is the left sure they want to open that can of worms given they are about to lose control of the Congress?

These people are just thugs, plain and simple.
They use federal law enforcement to terrorize their political opponents, without the slightest bit of shame.

You say it’s about harassing an opponent, but I don’t see how. He’s done nothing wrong, and it’s not as if the investigation involves him personally, so why should this even bother him? Let them investigate to their hearts’ content. Let them interrogate every FL civil servant involved, if they like. They’ll just be wasting their own money and the state’s, but I don’t see how it will even inconvenience DeSantis. He’ll just come out looking even better than he does now, if that’s possible.

    No, it’s our money,

Milhouse in reply to gonzotx. | October 15, 2022 at 10:47 pm

But it’s not DeSantis’s money. The claim was that the purpose here is to harass DeSantis, and I don’t see how that works. He can safely ignore the whole thing.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Milhouse. | October 14, 2022 at 6:02 pm

You give no thought to the poor devils being put under interrogation, no doubt including threats and – knowing the present government – audits, calls to employers, and other delights.

Their new favorite is tangential perjury traps. Catch someone in a lie when they don’t even know they are doing it.

The claim is that the purpose of this “investigation” is to harass a political opponent. Those “poor devils” who will be questioned are all career civil servants, not political opponents at all. And they will not be under any threats, because the investigation is of the state government, not of them personally. They will answer the feds’ questions, during their normal work day, instead of doing whatever other work they were supposed to do. The state will be harmed, but not them, and not DeSantis. So what exactly is the intended purpose?

Milhouse will drop an obviously unpopular counterpoint to the general trend of comments and people will end up explaining in further detail the justification for their positions. For the longest time I couldn’t see it but I do now.
Milhouse, you Negative Speaker bastard, I salute you!

johnny dollar in reply to Milhouse. | October 14, 2022 at 6:57 pm

Numerous people in DeSantis’ administration will feel compelled to retain counsel, at a cost to them of many tens of thousands of dollars, unless the State of Florida can be assessed for the cost of their defense.
Even if they don’t have to pay for counsel, their lives will be upended and disrupted for months on end, all for the purpose of terrorizing the political opponents of the Democrat political machine.
I hope every one of them immediately asserts the fifth amendment and says nothing to any investigator, and I hope DeSantis backs them up if they chose to do so.

I doubt anyone in the administration will feel any pressure here, because they’re not being investigated personally. It’s the state being investigated.

It’s as the Dem politician said…if you have nothing to hide then no need to worry about an IRS investigation. Except that there is false entrapment, “unfortunate” indictments and a myriad of other types of punishment to survive. Beria lives.

They want to waste our money to harass their political opponents,

    4rdm2 in reply to Milhouse. | October 16, 2022 at 8:14 am

How did I know you would show up trying to wheedle an excuse for the inexcusable?

Is this where they discover money is fungible? If Florida didn’t have the money from the feds, they wouldn’t have been able to afford it? So even though it came from another pot of money- HE STOLE IT FROM THE COVID RELIEF FUNDS!

Lawfare as the Dems practice it. Or the familiar song Everything Our Political Opponents Do Is Illegal So Lets Put Them All In Jail,

What exactly are they investigating? Florida paid for a plane to fly willing illegal immigrants to a sanctuary city? Are they investigating to determine whether DeSantis was involved? The entire incident was reported in great detail and explained by DeSantis himself. Feds obviously have too much free time and should have their budget slashed.

They are afraid of DeSantis

Not so much Abbott

When will it be time to investigate Democrats who are still misspending COVID funds on golf courses, summer camps, CRT consultants, and cutting little boys’ dicks off?

gonzotx in reply to henrybowman. | October 14, 2022 at 8:00 pm

Don’t forget cutting little girls breasts off too!

How demonic we have become and what kind of parent is this? A devil in human form

Gosport in reply to henrybowman. | October 15, 2022 at 12:29 am

As disgusting as it is, most of that stuff was done in plain site as it was specifically authorized in the bill(s) or Executive Orders.

Thank the press and the weak-tit GOP for the average taxpayer/voter not knowing that.

Immigration reform financed with public capital… uh, redistributive change? Novel! Never.

How dare the Left accuse DeSantis of human trafficking. For decades, the Left has been shouting that America is irredeemably raysiss. Thus, it is clear the only reason the admin of Zhou Baideng has opened the border is to import a huge underclass of exploitable labor.

Democrats have to be some of the dumbest bastards to have ever walked the earth 😂😂

Just when everyone had forgotten about Democrat double standards when it comes to shipping illegal aliens off to various parts of America they come along and shove the story right back in your face and right before mid terms to remind people about the Democrat created open border 😂😂

“Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) is a driving force behind this.”

I apologize for my screwed up state, and want to fix his designation with the missing letters, “D-MS” should be DuMbAss.

Markey, aka “Mr. Frosty,” has had only one real job: driving an ice cream truck, according to reporter Howie Carr.
