Tony Awards Audience Applauds After Presenter Calls DeSantis a KKK ‘Grand Wizard’

Tony Awards Audience Applauds After Presenter Calls DeSantis a KKK ‘Grand Wizard’

“…while I am certain that the current grand wizard — I’m sorry, excuse me — governor of my home state of Florida will be changing…”

So brave. So courageous.

Actress Denée Benton referred to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a KKK Grand Wizard during the Tony Awards when she presented the Carnegie Mellon University Excellence in Theatre Education Award.

Why bring up DeSantis? Benton is from Florida, and so is winner Jason Zembuch Young at South Plantation High School in Plantation, FL:

BENTON: “Hi. Hi, I’m Denée Benton, actor — (Applause) — thank you, and proud CMU alum. (Cheering and Applause) Earliest tonight, CMU on the Tony Awards presented the 2023 Excellence in Theater Education Award. And while I am certain that the current grand wizard — I’m sorry, excuse me — governor of my home state of Florida will be changing — (Cheering and Applause) — please, please, please — I am sure that he will be changing the name of this following town immediately.”

Blah blah blah. Same old, same old.

You want to be edgy and cool? Say something about a Democrat.

I wonder how many of those who applauded and cheered are leftists. We all know plenty lie and/or don’t say anything.

I’ve been told by sports writers that there are quite a few conservative/libertarian-leaning people in the industry but they don’t say anything or lie because it could cause problems.

Guess this actor is not interested in Republican investors, colleagues, or audiences. Okay.

I suspect she hates them all with a fervent passion.

She probably believes that there will not be any ill effects for something like this. And there may not be, depending on who wins. However I have a sense that knowingly or not, a lot of people are publicly and irrevocably choosing sides for the time to come. And that there will not be any recanting allowed.

Parents beware.

Her apple didn’t fall far from the plantation.

You haven’t made it until you’re named a grand wizard or Hitler. Welcome to the big time.

Ya think?
Don’t they also feed black babies down in Florida?

scooter, yeah we used to feed black babies to the alligators, called them “gator bait.”

At least that’s what I read from some black guy who says it’s an “inside joke” in FL. (He was commenting on Casey DeSantis’s leather jacket that she wore to a biker event recently.)

I’d never heard of it before he had mentioned it, and I’ve lived here for over 40 years.

I can beat that one. I wasn’t until I was in the navy that I learned Jews drink the blood of Christian children at our Sabbath ceremonies.

Not a peep about an actual KKK muckety-muck like Sen. Robert Byrd, who was HRC’s mentor….

Martin in reply to nordic prince. | June 12, 2023 at 4:52 pm

KKK is to IRA as Democrats is to Sinn Féin

And, upon whose death, dotard-marionette, Biden, delivered a eulogy.

Funny how we don’t hear any outrage from the vile and stupid Dumb-o-crats, about their president venerating an actual ex-Klansman.

E Howard Hunt | June 12, 2023 at 4:59 pm

Yes, he will be changing the name to Bantustan.

They are itching for a conflict itself Cultural Marxists are

Bad look for CMU and the Tony awards. Really low-class.

And you were expecting??? 🙂

Jesse Watters on The Five this evening: DeSantis should say, “I can’t be a Grand Wizard because I am not a Democrat.”

Most of us Floridians don’t care what Hollywood says or thinks. Most of us who are conservative don’t care what Hollywood says or thinks.

guyjones in reply to natdj. | June 12, 2023 at 7:31 pm

All fair and true. Problem is, these narcissistic twits in the Hollywood, media and pop culture industries undeniably possess collective influence. Their perpetual vilification of conservatives/GOP and simultaneous promotion/praise/canonization of Dumb-o-crats have an undeniable cultural and electoral effect. Their antics and statements influence enough minds and votes to swing a national election in the Dumbs’ favor. This is partly why Andrew Breitbart sagely observed that “politics runs downstream from culture.”

Gosport in reply to guyjones. | June 13, 2023 at 2:30 pm

You are right of course. But the political leanings of society are like a pendulum, and trends suggest it may be starting to swing back towards conservatism.

henrybowman in reply to natdj. | June 13, 2023 at 12:20 am

Gonna be a LOTTA bald chicks in Hollywood come Restoration Day.

How delightfully new, a privileged young woke weirdo making false claims about those who oppose them politically not in front of their target but in front of a hive minded crowd of people sympathetic to the false claim.

CMU is impressive – her speech is not. How the hell does she pivot from her intro to the grand wizard statement? It sounded like shifting into reverse on the freeway … so very awkward.

The name Plantation goes back to 1909 – but FU DeSantis all the same for the racist name. What a chicken$h!t move for Benton and the idiot audience to cheer like Pavlov’s dog.

Gosport in reply to MrE. | June 13, 2023 at 2:34 pm

Young marxists get bonus points for slipping in unrelated and gratuitous cheap shots against the right whenever they are before a microphone/crowd.

It’s their clever and brave moment supporting the revolution.

I’ll also point out that the vile Dumb-o-crats are now comfortable slandering Catholic Americans of Italian descent as alleged klansmen, just as conservative/GOP American Jews were slandered during President Trump’s tenure as alleged “white supremacists.”

Gremlin1974 | June 12, 2023 at 6:43 pm

Yea, umm I wonder if she realizes that her “station” in the Film Actors Guild determines what award that they get to present, so if she is presenting the “Excellence in Lefty education award” that means she is somewhere below “C”rate.

Another oppressed and mistreated negr person of color in a $5,000 gown.

texansamurai | June 12, 2023 at 6:51 pm

well, if we’re going to think / speak in the vernacular of days gone by, if desantis is a “grand wizard” then what should we call an ignorant, black, clueless female?

She flashed the OK sign with both hands in response to the crowd. Guess she’s a double agent.

Lives in the spirit of Dindu Nuffin.

I’ll do it: so did she check the (affirmative action) box to get where she is?

Presenter exercises liberal license to indulge Critical Diversity Theory (e.g. racism).

DeSantis should sue her. I don’t see how this is anything but defamation per se with actual malice. No reasonable person would hear that and believe she’s implying he plays Dungeons & Dragons.

drsamherman | June 12, 2023 at 9:39 pm

She disses her own state, but I don’t see her moving her hypocritical ass out anytime soon. Frauds like her will always badmouth the very government that provides them with low taxes and a nice, livable state. Of course, that liar would never admit to that.

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt | June 12, 2023 at 10:01 pm

I looked closely. I don’t see a gnoose on Quantavia’s neck. So apparently, the grand wizard failed.

Of course, Democrats have been Kealing KneeGrows since, well, 1619. We just don’t know it because they wore white sheets.

Quantavia should be happy that white people died to get her mammy off da plantation. She should also be happy that whites were the primary support of the Underground Railroad.

What a waste of time.

DeSantis’ campaign should sue for defamation.

Since she’s their official presenter, sue the Tony Awards organization, and sue the network that broadcast it.

Given the size of the settlement FOX made with Dominion, and the cost of running a campaign for President, seems something well above $1 Billion would be in order.

Gosport in reply to Aarradin. | June 13, 2023 at 2:37 pm

Absolutely right. Name CMU and the Tony people in a suit in order to make the point that YOU are responsible for the people you chose to represent you.

    That’s what represent means.

There was a reason why the KKK came into existence. Idiots, as this simpleton, explain why the KKK may persist.

I don’t believe DeSantis is or ever has been a Klansman… like the former governor of Virginia, Ralph “Coonman” Northram, or West Virginia’s legend “Sheets” Byrd.

I’m sure that Lulu White — excuse me, I mean Denee Benton — will go on from here to have a long and profitable career with Hustler — excuse me, I mean PornHub.

This is the typical MO for young wannabes in Hollywood. It makes them more attractive to the in-crowd there and at the same time eliminates close to half of their potential audience. Trump is good at this. He never speaks to the Indies or disaffected Dems. It’s always the same people that he speaks to, his base.

I think the 14 family members who were the only ones that knew the event was going on much like a WNBA game were most impressed

That’s Showbiz, folks!!!
