Actress Denée Benton referred to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a KKK Grand Wizard during the Tony Awards when she presented the Carnegie Mellon University Excellence in Theatre Education Award.
Why bring up DeSantis? Benton is from Florida, and so is winner Jason Zembuch Young at South Plantation High School in Plantation, FL:

(Cheering and Applause) Earliest tonight, CMU on the Tony Awards presented the 2023 Excellence in Theater Education Award. She probably believes that there will not be any ill effects for something like this. And there may not be, depending on who wins. However I have a sense that knowingly or not, a lot of people are publicly and irrevocably choosing sides for the time to come. And that there will not be any recanting allowed.

Most of us Floridians don’t care what Hollywood says or thinks. Most of us who are conservative don’t care what Hollywood says or thinks.
All fair and true. Problem is, these narcissistic twits in the Hollywood, media and pop culture industries undeniably possess collective influence. Their perpetual vilification of conservatives/GOP and simultaneous promotion/praise/canonization of Dumb-o-crats have an undeniable cultural and electoral effect. Their antics and statements influence enough minds and votes to swing a national election in the Dumbs’ favor. This is partly why Andrew Breitbart sagely observed that “politics runs downstream from culture.”

DeSantis should sue her. I don’t see how this is anything but defamation per se with actual malice. No reasonable person would hear that and believe she’s implying he plays Dungeons & Dragons.
