Mossad Foils Iranian Terror Plot Targeting Israeli Tourists and Jewish Center in Cyprus

Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad has foiled an Iranian terrorist plot against Israeli and Jewish targets in Cyprus. Iranian operatives were scouting for locations frequented by Israeli and Jewish tourists and businessmen, including a Chabad center in the city of Limassol, news reports suggest.

The attacks were being planned by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the military and foreign terrorist arm of the Mullah regime. “The Cypriot intelligence services and Mossad closely monitored for months the movements of the terrorist cell, comprised of intelligence operatives of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, which arrived by flight from Russia to the Turkish side of the island,” the Israeli news website Ynet reported.

Mossad received support from the U.S. and Cypriot intelligence agencies in thwarting the attacks. The terrorist “plot, which was planned by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, was thwarted in cooperation with the intelligence services of Israel and the United States,” the Israeli broadcaster Arutz Sheva confirmed.

Israeli TV channel i24NEWS reported:

Israel confirmed on Sunday evening the thwarting of a terrorist attack organized by Iran, which targeted Israelis and Jews in Cyprus.Jerusalem warned that it will continue to fight “Iranian terrorism wherever it rears its head”, including in Iran itself.“The State of Israel is using a wide range of methods everywhere in order to defend Jews and Israelis and will continue to act in order to uproot Iranian threat wherever it rears its head, including in Iran, the main fomenter of terrorism in the world,” the prime minister’s office said in a statement, praising the thwarting of the attack.Earlier on Sunday, the Cypriot media reported that local security services prevented an attack on Israeli targets plotted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards of Iran. According to Philenews, the planned attack was foiled by the Cypriot intelligence services, in collaboration with other foreign agencies, including Israeli and American. Sources told Israeli media that the country’s Mossad spy agency helped Cyprus to crack the Iranian terror cell.Cypriot outlets also reported that those suspected of plotting the attack had used the northern part of the island as a base and had been under the surveillance of Cypriot intelligence services for several months. According to Israeli media, the potential targets of the attack may have been a house belonging to the Chabad organization or a kosher restaurant.

The news comes just days after Greek authorities foiled an IRGC plot involving terrorist recruits from Pakistan, an alarming development as Europe’s borders remain open to illegal migrants from Muslim-majority countries of North Africa and the Middle East. Israel’s “Channel 12 also said that in recent days, Greek intelligence services arrested seven Pakistan nationals who were recruited by Iran to carry out attacks in the country,” The Times of Israel reported.

The foiled terrorist plot in Cyprus is the latest in the series of Iranian attempts to kill Israeli and Jews tourists on foreign soil. Last year, Turkey’s security forces arrested an Iranian death squad plotting to kill and kidnap Israelis in Istanbul. The Islamic Guard has been recruiting jihad sympathizers for such attacks in Africa and Asia.
