MSNBC, Kamala Harris Tag Team to Lie About Ron DeSantis’ Stance on Teaching Black History
“What does [DeSantis] not know about black history and the black experience when he says that slavery and the aftermath of slavery should not be taught to Florida schoolchildren?” MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell asked VP Kamala Harris.
Ron DeSantis undoubtedly drives the left and their mainstream media allies crazy—especially when he scores one political victory after another. The closer we get to the time when more Republicans including possibly DeSantis himself declare their candidacies for president, the more desperate their critics get to undermine them, him especially.
Case in point, MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell, who sat down last week for a friendly “interview” with Vice President Kamala Harris during her trip to Munich, where the veep spoke at the Munich Security Conference.
At one point during their exchange, Mitchell—whose softball treatment of twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016 has been well-documented—asked a question that sounded like it was tailor-made for Harris by former Biden chief of staff Ron Klain. Harris’ word salady answer was to frame it from the perspective that the Florida governor was “censoring” teachers and stifling parents:
ANDREA MITCHELL: Let me ask you, what does Governor Ron DeSantis not know about black history and the black experience when he says that slavery and the aftermath of slavery should not be taught to Florida schoolchildren?
KAMALA HARRIS: I don’t know what he knows and what he doesn’t know, but I know this — any push to censor America’s teachers and tell them what they should be teaching in the best interests of our children, in partnership with the parents of America is, I think, wrong-headed.
The people who know our children best are their parents and their teachers in terms of the time they spend and the investment they’ve placed in the brains and capacity of our children who are our nation’s future. And it should not be some politician saying what should be taught in our classrooms.

The problem here is that DeSantis has never come out against the teaching of slavery and the aftermath of it in Florida classrooms, which his spokesperson Bryan Griffin pointed out in two tweets, with the second one being a link to the Florida Dept. of Education’s African American history page, which outlines what’s taught to kids in the public school system:
Shameful. This question from @mitchellreports exemplifies everything wrong with corporate media.
They're not accidentally terrible at their jobs–they're maliciously intent on deceiving people.@GovRonDeSantis never said this, and FL has extensive black history requirements. https://t.co/XZMRoBFuZG

From the site as it relates to teaching about slavery:
The following is in the required instruction statute, s. 1003.42(2)(h), F.S.
The history of African Americans, including:
-the history of African peoples before the political conflicts that led to the development of slavery;
-the passage to America;
-the enslavement experience;
-abolition; and
-the history and contributions of Americans of the African diaspora to society.Students shall develop an understanding of the ramifications of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping on individual freedoms, and examine what it means to be a responsible and respectful person, for the purpose of encouraging tolerance of diversity in a pluralistic society and for nurturing and protecting democratic values and institutions.

What DeSantis does oppose, of course, is the implementation of woke dogma like Critical Race Theory in the classroom. CRT wrongly teaches among other things that America is a racist country, was founded on racism, and that black kids should view themselves as oppressed and their white classmates as oppressors.
The ironic thing about Harris’ answer was that she clearly didn’t know what she was talking about (not uncommon with her), because if she did then she’d know that DeSantis’ method of operation on the educational front is what she hinted it should be: making sure parental rights are recognized and to get and keep them actively involved with their children’s schools regarding what’s taught to them, not in an effort to censor but instead to make sure students are being educated not indoctrinated.
But just like with the parental rights bill which they are still wrongly dubbing the “don’t say gay” law, the media and left have to lie about it because they know that attacking such laws and similar proposals on their actual merits is not a winning move with parents, as Virginia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe found out the hard way in 2021.

If we taught HISTORY we wouldn’t need to worry about race. The left however can’t see anything without the lens of race.
The left has two Rules:
1. EVERYTHING is about race;
and
2. In cases not involving race, please see Rule #1.
Kammie really shined under Andrea Mitchell’s searing inquisition. Do you think Xi Jinpeng’s offer to her will be as sweet as Biden received?
Let me ask you, what does Governor Ron DeSantis not know about black history and the black experience when he says that slavery and the aftermath of slavery should not be taught to Florida schoolchildren?
Asked of a woman who is neither of African descent (her family is Jamaican), who was never a slave, and whose ancestors were actually slave holders.
And really, we should educate our children on those topics. And how it was the democrats that worked long and hard to deny blacks their civil rights from the emancipation of the slaves right up to the 21st Century.
Excellent point. It’s like stolen valor. Obama used it when he had no actual connection. Dreams of his father, and all that jazz.
The d/prog refuse to stop using race as the motivating factor in how they view people and actions.
Stuff like this makes it very painful to watch anything from the MSM or the Biden Administration. Finding a nugget of truth amongst all the lies, “word salads” and non-answers is such a challenge. Recent examples – East Palestine is safe, the first gigantic Chinese balloon flying across the USA and over military bases is no big deal and Biden is in good health.
DeSantis did something here that no Florida governor has done during an election cycle and that is he campaigned for, supported and endorsed school board candidates. His main focus were parental rights and dismantling CRT. He was rewarded with a 20% point victory, the legislature now has a Republican supermajority and many of the school board candidates he supported are now in office. As for these outside “black leaders” the governor nor most of us truly care what they think.
They are just feeding their people the crap they have become addicted to.
As they continue to move further from reality, like in Wonderland, more will kick the habit, except for the helpless true believers approacing cult status.
Can’t these people make up their minds? On the one hand they say slavery is evil, and on the other, they want to teach it.
With their lies and smears they always telegraph who they are most afraid of.
This might be an actual story if anyone paid attention to either Heel’s Up or MSNBC.
