NHL Caves on Discriminatory Woke Job Fair After Warning From DeSantis Administration

Among the many enduring legacies of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his administration will be their no-nonsense approach to the “woke” dogma of the radical left, whether it be in the public school system, collegiate academia, in government, in banking and the workplace, or wherever.

The most recent example of this occurred last week after the administration got word that the NHL would be hosting a job fair of sorts in early February in Fort Lauderdale.

While there is, of course, nothing inherently wrong with job fairs, there was a big problem with this one: it excluded most white men. The relevant portion of the original posting read as follows:

Participants must be 18 years of age or older, based in the U.S., and identify as female, Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and/or a person with a disability. Veterans are also welcome and encouraged to attend.

Gov. DeSantis’ press secretary Bryan Griffin responded accordingly with a statement, warning the NHL against their woke discrimination tactics:

DeSantis’ office had warned the NHL that “discrimination of any sort is not welcome in the state of Florida, and we do not abide by the woke notion that discrimination should be overlooked if applied in a politically popular manner or against a politically unpopular demographic.”“We are fighting all discrimination in our schools and our workplaces, and we will fight it in publicly accessible places of meeting or activity,” they continued. “We call upon the National Hockey League to immediately remove and denounce the discriminatory prohibitions it has imposed on attendance to the 2023 ‘Pathway to Hockey’ summit.”

Below are the screengrabs of the NHL’s original linked in post and the statement from Griffin:

Former DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw, who went on to work on his 2022 reelection campaign team as rapid response director, also responded:

In the “updated” NHL LinkedIn post, the paragraph on “participants” is gone. They told Fox News Digital that the “original wording” of the post was “not accurate”:

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the NHL said the “original wording of the LinkedIn post associated with the event was not accurate.””The Pathway to Hockey Summit is an informational and networking event designed to encourage all individuals to consider a career in our game – and, in particular, alert those who might not be familiar with hockey to the opportunities it offers,” the NHL spokesperson said. The NHL deleted the event posting from its LinkedIn account on Friday night. In a further clarification, the spokesperson said the event is open to anyone ages 18 and older.

After the NHL backtracked, Griffin invoked a signature phrase of Gov. DeSantis:

In other words, mess with the bull, you get the horns. Disney found this out the hard way, and now the NHL has, too.
