As Europe gears up for a severe energy crisis ahead of winter, the Continent faces a surging migrant wave comparable to the one witnessed in the autumn of 2015, the European media reports suggest.
Germany is overwhelmed by the sudden increase in immigrants coming through the Balkan route, the favorite passage taken by illegals from the Middle East and beyond.
“The German Interior Minister has voiced concern about a “sudden” uptick in irregular arrivals from Serbia via the Balkan route,” the European news website Infomigrants reported Wednesday.
News reports say that the German government is running out of accommodations for the newly-arriving immigrant. The surging migrant wave is “pushing accommodation facilities in Germany to the limit,” the Germany-based news outlet added.
Describing the current migrant surge, the Infomigrants reported:
Apparently, many of the migrants entered via the Serbian capital Belgrade, including through the airport there, and then made their way to Germany, Faeser told TV station Welt on Tuesday (September 20). [Germany’s interior minister Nancy Faeser] announced talks to be held with Serbia on the “big and sudden rise” in migrant arrivals.”We see increased migration via the Czech Republic, via Austria — also to Germany,” the minister said, adding that she already talked to her Czech and Austrian counterparts about the issue.North Macedonian police as well as European border agency Frontex have both recently reported a considerable increase in irregular entries into the EU from the Western Balkans. The uptick is one reason why all 16 states have exhausted their regular accommodation capacities, according to Mediendienst Integration citing information from the responsible state ministries. Emergency accommodation in halls, hotels and commercial properties is increasingly being used.
Neighboring Austria struggles with the same fate. The Austrian “government is being urged to tackle the issue of irregular migration as more than 3,000 irregular migrants and refugees entered Austria this week, topping the record reached in the first week of September,” the Belgian news outlet EURACTIV reported Wednesday.
“Most are from the Middle East, particularly Afghanistan, Pakistan and India,” the news outlet noted.
The EURACTIV, a pro-EU publication, lamented that the upsurge in illegal immigration could benefit Austria’s right-wing Freedom Party (FPÖ) in this month’s presidential election:
The government is being urged to tackle the issue of irregular migration as more than 3,000 irregular migrants and refugees entered Austria this week, topping the record reached in the first week of September. As presidential elections are set for 9 October, and most nominees are on the far right side of the political spectrum, the campaign has brought issues like migration to the fore.Austria has seen a massive influx in the number of refugees this year as it registered 47,000 refugees, compared to the 19,000 registered for 2021. Most are from the Middle East, particularly Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.“One negative record follows the next each week. But this still does not seem to prompt the current ÖVP [Christian Democratic] Minister of the Interior, Karner, to act,” explained Hannes Amesbauer, security spokesman for the far-right FPÖ, who added a warning of “100,000 illegal refugees.”The government has also fallen prey to the Social Democratic SPÖ, currently in opposition.“Interior Minister Karner is completely overwhelmed with the asylum agendas,” the party explained. They note a failure to look for “sensible” international solutions. Refugee issues have dominated Austrian politics for years, with the most restrictive policies implemented during the two-year term of far-right FPÖ Interior Minister Herbert Kickl.
The migrant wave hits Europe as the Continents gears up for blackouts and economic disruption after Russia recently blocked the energy supply. According to the German newspaper Die Berliner Zeitung, the Berlin Police is preparing for a “state of emergency,” fearing widespread rioting and looting in the German capital this winter.
The upheaval caused by blackouts and crashing power grids could set the stage for migrant attacks similar to the ones witnessed in Cologne and other German cities on New Year’s Eve of 2016. Following the refugee influx in 2015, Germany saw an alarming rise in migrant crimes, particularly murders and sexual assaults.
Reverberations of the surging European migrant wave are being felt across the English Channel, as many migrant boats land on the British shores.
“The number of migrants reaching Britain on small boats has hit a new record of 1,295 in a single day,” British daily The Independent reported late last month. “They crossed the English Channel in a total of 27 boats on Monday (August 22), the Ministry of Defence said.”
