WHO: Deeper Probe Needed into Possible Wuhan Lab-Leak Origin of Covid Pandemic

The World Health Organization (WHO) is now recommending in its strongest terms yet that a deeper probe is required into whether a lab accident may be to blame for the release of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that is the cause of the covid pandemic that has swept through the world in a series of waves.

That stance marks a sharp reversal of the U.N. health agency’s initial assessment of the pandemic’s origins, and comes after many critics accused WHO of being too quick to dismiss or underplay a lab-leak theory that put Chinese officials on the defensive.

WHO concluded last year that it was “extremely unlikely” COVID-19 might have spilled into humans in the city of Wuhan from a lab. Many scientists suspect the coronavirus jumped into people from bats, possibly via another animal.

Yet in a report released Thursday, WHO’s expert group said “key pieces of data” to explain how the pandemic began were still missing. The scientists said the group would “remain open to any and all scientific evidence that becomes available in the future to allow for comprehensive testing of all reasonable hypotheses.”

I have been covering the reasonable, and in my view probable, lab-origin for the covid pandemic since February of 2020, when I noted that Chinese university researchers believed virus may originate from government laboratory in Wuhan.

Other sign-posts on the road to reaching this sensible conclusion are:

The report was written by the Scientific Advisory Group for the Origins of Novel Pathogens (SAGO),. This panel consisted experts from the United States, China and 25 other nations that first came together last year after widespread criticism of a joint WHO-China investigation into the coronavirus’s origins that produced a report that read like Chinese propaganda.

The SAGO relied on currently available data, which has been hidden, redacted and obfuscated by China.

The team is designed not only to help investigate the origins of the coronavirus but also to set up a framework for understanding the origins of future outbreaks. Its work is expected to last for years, WHO officials said.

“It is just the start,” Maria Van Kerkhove, a World Health Organization epidemiologist, told reporters. “They’ve made some good progress. They’ve clearly outlined that there’s more work to be done.”

Even so, the report may breathe life into a debate that has never come to a firm conclusion: Where did the coronavirus pandemic come from? While many scientists have favored a theory of zoonotic spread, the lab-leak theory has gained prominent support from some experts, including some U.S. officials.

The search for “truth” can go on for years. Meanwhile, given what is now known about the questionable state of the laboratory and its biological safety practices, perhaps we should be more concerned about what is going on today.

Here is the research the wuhan Institute of Virology is touting on its website.

Since then, a number of research groups were recruited or updated their interests to study on diverse pathogens of infectious diseases including SARS-CoV, influenza viruses, hemorrhagic fever viruses and antibiotic resistant-tuberculosis. With the construction of the national high level biosafety laboratory platforms it is also the bounden duty for the institute to study highly pathogenic agents, which currently occur in China and potentially imported aboard. This team now has full capability for the quickly response to EID outbreak regarding the pathogen detection, identification and pathogenesis studies.

I submit that it may be more worthwhile for the WHO team to look at the current research at Wuhan, in order to prevent the next pandemic.

NO, we know who did it. Only ? Is WHY
My money is Trump
My money is it was planned, all of it…

I wouldn’t bet a lot on Trump being behind it. He never had control of the levers of power in The Swamp.

But, I wholly agree with you on “WHY”. We spend all too much time haggling over the details of “What”, don’t spend nearly the time on “Why”–which is vastly more important. The problem is that “Why” leads one to some very dark and absolutely frightening conclusions.

No I didn’t say trump was behind it
They did it to get Trump
It was and always will be about Trump
Then the next person who dares to step up
    Maybe DeSantis
But the global fix is in amd it will take a major revolution world wide to stop the progression

I misread your comment. I agree COVID was weaponized to get rid of Trump.

      txvet2 in reply to gonzotx. | June 10, 2022 at 2:57 pm

You’d be on a lot firmer ground if Trump didn’t continue to insist that the jabs are good for you, when it’s clearly been established that they aren’t.

        Dimsdale in reply to txvet2. | June 10, 2022 at 5:15 pm

This was not established back then. President Trump had to rely on information from the likes of Pfizer, which, if you recall, delayed the announcement of the vaccine, which was probably worth more as an election enhancer than virus killer, until AFTER the election.

It it pResident Biden that continues to push the vaccine despite contradictory evidence of its efficacy.

          txvet2 in reply to Dimsdale. | June 10, 2022 at 6:17 pm

You’d be on firmer ground if he wasn’t STILL pushing the jabs.

gonzotx in reply to Dimsdale. | June 10, 2022 at 8:59 pm

:)trump doesn’t necessarily push the vaccine any longer but he will be damned if he was going to let Biden take credit for him amd his team clearing the way, to get it done.

People were booing the vaccine at his rally’s, I think he got the “hint”
Now of you want the autopsy to show you have a 2 foot blood clot, Push those vaccines

Maybe the same people who let an engineered Monkey Pox out just after the Swine encephilitus and the Avian Flu?

The difference between “conspiracy theory” and fact? About six months.

Dimsdale in reply to lichau. | June 10, 2022 at 5:16 pm

Unless it was the Russia collusion hoax. That remains a leftist conspiracy theory pushed by Hillary and the left.

I will never hold out hope that the WHO will do the right thing.

If they are saying this, it’s so they can bring out another nothingburger and try to call the matter “settled” again.

In other words, nobody believes their crap that it didn’t come from Wuhan, so now they have to have a ‘deeper probe’ so they can try and lie again about it not coming from Wuhan.

    Worst. Movie. Ever.
Even the homeboys in the balcony have been screaming, “The Chinese butler did it!” since before the end of the first act.

I see Frank Drebin standing in front of the building burning saying, nothing to see here folks.

Not only is the horse out of the barn, but already at the glue factory. Now the major damage has been done…well… for now. The die-off continues…. that includes liberty and freedom. FJB..FJT.. FBJ..F-AWholeBunchMore. We can’t punish them enough…. but we can try to make them living examples to shun..just like Biden got in LA yesterday.

WHO’s expert group said ‘key pieces of data’ to explain how the pandemic began were still missing. The scientists said the group would “remain open to any and all scientific evidence that becomes available in the future to allow for comprehensive testing of all reasonable hypotheses.’
Yes, after giving Fauci, Wuhan, et al. almost three years to destroy evidence and silence or “disappear” their critics, it’s finally safe for the WHO to advocate for a “deeper” investigation.

Wuhan and illicit Wuhan-style labs.

Even if the lab leak theory is true, you’re never going to find proof. No regime in history has been more dead-set against transparency, more dedicated to total information control, than the Chinese Communist Party. If there ever was evidence of a lab leak, it’s long been scrubbed away.

henrybowman in reply to Flatworm. | June 10, 2022 at 7:57 pm

And nobody who ever knew anything about the lab has ever been a victim of a sexual assault by the Vice Premier after all, nosiree, no idea how that rumor even got started.

healthguyfsu in reply to Flatworm. | June 10, 2022 at 8:24 pm

It would require more whistleblowers/defectors from China propaganda, and if they went to the WHO with it, they might as well just shoot themselves.

A probe?
Really?
By the W.H.O.?
They already have the findings of the probe they want to have, they just need to do some fabrication to support them.

It’s incredible to me that this “accident” theory is still being proffered, without any simultaneous mention of the far more likely notion of an intentional release.

I mean, how naive do you have to be, observing China’s increasingly bellicose and belligerent machinations, cyber-attacks, artificial island-building, “Belt and Road” usury lending program, etc., to deny the plausible likelihood that Chinese communist leadership observed how the vile Dumb-o-crats and their media allies were doing everything possible to lawlessly sabotage, subvert and undermine President Trump, his Administration and his policies, and, opportunistically sought to exploit the situation to its advantage — and, install a manifestly weak, corrupt, physically and mentally compromised and ineffectual puppet in dotard Biden — by helping to kick President Trump out of office, be releasing a virus at the beginning of year 2020, designed to not be readily identifiable as a military-modified bioweapon, not exceptionally lethal, but, calculated to sow sufficient panic and economic destruction to disrupt the American electoral landscape?
