Stacey Abrams Flips From “Defund the Police” To Claiming She Wants to Give Police a Raise
“We must raise pay for officers and address violent crime as we work to build community trust and foster law enforcement accountability.”
Stacey Abrams of Georgia is the latest Democrat to figure out that defunding the police is not intelligent policy, especially as crime skyrockets in cities across the country.
Now that Abrams is again running for Georgia governor, she has put her finger into the political wind and completely reversed her stance on the issue.
It’ll be fascinating to see if the people of Georgia remember where she used to be on this.
Emma Hurt reports at Axios:
Exclusive: Stacey Abrams wants to fund the police
Stacey Abrams says if elected governor of Georgia she will do something Republicans have insisted she won’t: fund the police.
Driving the news: As the second prong of a public safety and criminal justice reform platform first shared with Axios, Abrams is proposing to raise the base pay for Georgia state troopers, adult and juvenile correctional officers and community supervision officers to $50,000 per year.
- She also wants to create a grant program to help local departments raise pay and change the state’s law enforcement training standards and accountability controls.
Why it matters: Taken together with her plan to institute gun control measures, Abrams argues Democrats can do both: “We have to support law enforcement, but we also have to have meaningful accountability.”
Abrams is allowed to change her mind, but that doesn’t change the past.
Mike Miller of RedState has the receipts, and so does the Brian Kemp campaign:
Stacey Abrams Was in Favor of Defunding the Police, Now She Wants to Give Cops a Raise
Abrams’s 2018 loss to Kemp was close — and now, having won their respective primaries, the 2022 rematch promises more of the same; Kemp held a five-point margin in a late May Real Clear Politics poll.
Needless to say, the gloves are already off, on both sides.
Kemp, on Wednesday, released a blistering campaign ad in which he included video of Abrams, “in her own words,” agreeing in principle with defunding America’s police departments.
In her own words, Stacey Abrams said she would DEFUND the police! Abrams’ soft-on-crime policies are dangerous for Georgia.
As Governor, I will continue to fight to give our law enforcement the resources they need to keep Georgia families safe.
Abrams was coaxed into the admission by CNN’s Alisyn Camerota, but she made it just the same.
Check out this ad from Brian Kemp:

Look who’s Ms. Law and Order now:
Law enforcement are often paid less than a living wage, and that is wrong.
We must raise pay for officers and address violent crime as we work to build community trust and foster law enforcement accountability.

Are the people of Georgia going to buy this?

translate: “i’ll say anything to get elected. anything.”
Plus, hand me another Twinkie
Exactly.
She thought defund LEO would get her elected in 2018. She thinks give LEO a raise will get her elected in 2022.
“Oceana has always been at war with Eastasia.” Umm, hasn’t it?
or is it time for, “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines”?

The internal polls must be absolutely catastrophic.
Abrams may be sincere, but she subscribes to a Pro-Choice ethical religion that is viable in a limited frame of reference.
“Abrams may be sincere…”
But I doubt it.
Are the people of Georgia going to buy this?
No.. we will not… not with a plug nickle.
I wish I shared your confidence in the state of Georgia. You reelected Raffensperger and I heard many of Trump’s picks lost in primaries. A Georgia jury convicted the 3 Arbery defendants of murder, one of them for taking a video of a fight. A northern state is lefty but has some perspective on it. I can’t even say that much for Georgia.
Seems to me that as Governess already, she could do something.
She could flip Guam if she stepped down too hard off the airplane.
I am worried that she might trigger Cascadia if she comes to Oregon.
Ummm, right….
1st she wanted their heads, now she wants to make nice and get elected.. May I suggest a trip to the beach and pound sand.. 😁
The most fascinating thing about her as candidate is – – – –
did anyone notice, has anyone noticed, how thin the dems bench is? Something someone could take advantage of …… all that valuable ballot real estate going wanting…..
Here’s a raise….NOW NEVER SUBDUE A BLACK PERSON WHO RESISTS ARREST VIOLENTLY OR YOU DIE!
Sounds totally even to me.
That’s not a raise, that’s a tip. 🙂
“Now hang out in Dunkin Donuts all the way to retirement or getting fired, but never go near another potentially violent situation, especially if black people are present there!” Cops already know that, they don’t Stacy Abrams to tell them. Juries have already told them.
Stacy is a DemonRat. She will say anything today to get elected and simply not fund her promises if the voters are gullible enough to believe her and vote for her.
Less than a living wage? What universe does she live in? Plus police get platinum-plated pension and health benefits on top of that. If their cash wages are less than the state average salary, that they will be guaranteed millionaires with COLAs for life after only 20 years more than makes up for that.
Can’t believe she has made it this far either. The Dems really do have a very thin bench. But she is connected with Hollywood. I am doing my best to make sure she is connected with defeat here in Georgia.
I don’t trust her as far as I could throw her.
(That was too easy!)
