Backfired: Journalist Attempts To Dunk On SCOTUS Over Abortion, Ends Up Accused Of ‘Islamophobia’

Backfired: Journalist Attempts To Dunk On SCOTUS Over Abortion, Ends Up Accused Of ‘Islamophobia’

“This is Islamophobic. American Justices or lawmakers advancing U.S laws subjecting women to the cruelty of Christian extremism doctrine has nothing to do with Muslims. Leave us out of it.” – Rep. Ilhan Omar wrote in response to the now-deleted tweet.

There is backfiring. And then there is the type of epic backfiring that happened to a self-described “investigative journalist” Thursday after he attempted to dunk on the five conservative Supreme Court Justices who – if the draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito that was leaked to to the media last week holds – appear poised to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.

David Cay Johnston, whose 50-year+ CV includes investigative tax reporting stints at the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and Reuters among other left-wing news outlets, boasts of being a Pulitzer prize winner and a “Syracuse U law lecturer.” He’s written multiple books highly critical of former President Donald Trump, and his Twitter page is filled with exactly the type of mindless, insipid woke dogma you might expect to find from a leftist in response to the SCOTUS leak, like this:

And this:

But Johnston’s attempts at being cutesy boomeranged on him in a big way Thursday after he shared an altered photo of the Supreme Court Justices with the three female Justices – Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Amy Coney Barrett – all wearing burkas.

In a since-deleted tweet that initially went viral, he called it “brilliant political art”:

At some point after he posted the tweet, he began getting criticism over it from his fellow wokesters who didn’t appreciate him correlating allegedly oppressive actions like overturning Roe v. Wade to Islam.

He tried posting an explainer in another now-deleted tweet:

“Many commenting here miss the point of this political art. Its not about Islam. It’s about nominally Christian justices who don’t get the 14th or 19th Amendments and cite a witch hunter in the draft opinion. And yes I’m aware of Islamic law, which I’ve studied.”

But it didn’t do him any good. The accusations of “Islamophobia” piled up from a number of prominent Twitter blue checks on the left, including – most notably – anti-Semitic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.):

When Johnston was asked later why he deleted it, he said it was because it offended so many people who he claims misinterpreted him. He then inartfully explained that he wished he’d found a meme of the female Justices in “Margaret Atwood attire”:

But even that explanation didn’t work:

Not sure if all this qualifies as another instance of “go woke, go broke,” but radical leftists trying to out-woke each other while dog-piling on another one sure is entertaining to watch.

On 911—within approximately 10 minutes after the twin towers were attacked—Muslims accused Americans of being Islamophobic.

I say approximately 10 minutes because Muslims’ first reaction was to dance in the streets for awhile before making the accusation.

So, in exactly how many Muslim countries is abortion not just acceptable but readily available?

Don’t know but there will be a meeting of gay people with the religious leaders on the top floor of the warehouse in the back alley today.

Wouldn’t a more valid “fact-check” of this picture say that this would never be possible because if Islam was involved in our judicial process women (even wearing burkhas) would never be part of the Supreme Court?

The photo-op picture of the Justices was allegedly inappropriate, because, the supremacist and totalitarian ideology of “Submission” doesn’t treat women as chattel with lesser rights than men, and, in many Islamic countries, doesn’t force them to wear head coverings, face coverings or full-body coverings?

The vile demagogue and Muslim supremacist, Omar, needs to spend less time playacting as self-styled, alleged “victim,” and, more time learning about the intrinsic and innumerable pathologies of her chosen ideology.

Just look at Afghanistan, where the Taliban “partners” of dotard Biden’s marionette handlers/chaperones/caretakers are enforcing the rule that women can’t walk anywhere unless dressed in appropriate garb and accompanied by a man.

It’s a shame there wasn’t at least one Jewish Justice joining Alito’s draft opinion, because then vile Omar could have made a tweet “Let’s call out Christian and Jewish religious extremists who are violating our constitutional rights.

The anti-Christian hate (and, on any other day where Israel is involved, anti-Jew hate) being expressed by these Muslim and non-Muslim Dhimmi-crats is just off the charts.

The mental gymnastics at play by all parties would be worth medaling if it were an Olympic sport….sadly, it’s just the state of affairs among the leftist crybullies these days.

Mainstream Islam actually does fully support overturning Roe v Wade, the lefts caricature of Islam (you may remember it used to be bipartisan and Bush and other degenerates who are now never Trumpers did it 24/7) is something they think about you to, but there is a grain of truth to the Lefts attacking us by equating us with Muslims; yes we have major overlap with Islamic values.

Yes the Muslims to believe in the sanctity of life as do we. Ilhan Omar is a Muslim in the sense Tony Soprano is a Catholic.

We should reach out to Muslims, this isn’t the only issue we are shoulder to shoulder with Muslims on (and no Muslims aren’t groomers in this country it is secular leftists doing this nations grooming we stopped being part of the UK in 1776).

Reach out to Muslims? Only a fool does that. Islam inherently is a bad thing.

You sound like John Stuart discussing Christianity, All of that dehumanization of Muslims you saw during the Bush Era was just propaganda it isn’t real.

It is Islamophobic and wrong to call Muslims in the UK ‘Groomers’ and to use terms like ‘Muslim grooming gangs’.

The correct terminology is ‘child rape gangs’.

But I think if the same gangs were made up of white nominal christians instead of nominal “muslims” police would have shut them down long ago and victims would be given extremely high priority for help instead of being revictimized and given degrading and dehumanizing names by the British authorities.

We agree Islam isn’t the cause in context I think it was clear I was pre-emptively pointing out that these child rape gangs are a UK phenomenon and not something any Muslim in the United States has ever engaged in (there are Islamophobes like Robert Spencer actively trying to convince Americans the UK issue with child rape gangs is Islam caused).

They are a pro-life community people like yourself are determined to make a Democrat block by being Islamophobic.

Prior to George W Bush Muslims voted Republican at about the same rate African Americans vote Democrat,

Bush won re-election in 2004 in no small part by engaging in a massive dehumanization campaign as he bathed in Muslim blood from one end of the middle east all the way to Afghanistan and understandably Muslims hated Republicans for that and turned Democrat.

It will be a long time till we could win them over again but we could at least start the process of courting them and we could at least drop the obsolete propaganda of the Bush era (should be easy Bush thinks you are the same as Muslims).

Attempting to place all Muslims into one box is as foolish and incorrect as attempting to place all Christians into one box or all Jews into one box. Islam consists largely of Shia and Sunni just as Christianity consists of Catholics and Protestants. Each of these broad categories in Christianity have additional subsets of splinter groups who formed due to differences in theology and practice. The same holds true for Muslims.

The US is a nation built on the ideals of western philosophy which was itself heavily influenced by Christianity and Judaism. We founded as a republic with a more or less moral /ethical culture derived from those traditions. That doesn’t make the US a ‘Christian’ nation. Consider the result of this basic research. Call the fire department for your city and get the total seating capacity for every active church. Now look at the census count for your city. You will find that the population far exceeds the seating capacity in Christian houses of worship.

The influence of Christianity and by extension Judaism on Western philosophy which directly underpin our founding documents and our culture can’t be denied. That’s an entirely different thing than being a nation where the overwhelming majority of people are actively demonstrating a commitment to the practice through attendance at weekly religious worship.

We are barely a religious Nation much less Christian. Gallop poll from 2018 finds the following % by age cohort describing themselves as belonging to any congregation, Christian, Islamic or Jewish:
          Baby Boomer- 58%
          Gen X – 50%
          Millennial – 36%

Your declaration that the US is a Christian nation is simply not true unless you have a far more liberal interpretation of what it means to be Christian. Can you supply that definition and some observable evidence to back your claim?

‘This is disgusting. So we’re fighting the taking of women’s rights AND fascism by being Islamophobic, Xenophobic, racist and ignorant???”

Isn’t this the very essence of leftist “thought” and practice? How long did they think that fighting racism by being racist, protecting women by letting men in skirts crush them in sports, or hiding the racism practiced by blacks against Asians and Jews (at minimum)?

Play stupid racist games, win stupid racist prizes. Good job, Johnston; you managed to pit the woke against the woke, and let them demonstrate their inherent intolerance and hate. Wotta dope!

You are woke with your eyes closed.

So overturning a bad decision by SCOTUS and sending it back to the States to democraticly give its citizens the right to vote on it because Federalism is somehow undemocratic? I love the screeching left who just yesterday were demanding forced vaccinations suddenly discovering body autonomy

You know.. it’s not islamophobic when “those people” are throwing other people off rooftops, stoning them to death, beheading them, often on TV, and flying planes into buildings (our buildings)

How many people were killed in Chicago, Illinois this weekend. Whatever else Chicago may be it is definitely part of the Christian USA you claim exists. Are those deaths on the heads of Christianity in general or the individual killers?

A random Muslim is no more at fault for those things than a random Christian is responsible for the murders in Chicago.

If you want to see the “reasoning” that leads to this, you might read Margaret Atwood’s article in The Atlantic. Wherein she seems to argue that the only possible reason why the Court might repeal Roe is because it intends to reform the USA as a theocracy:

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/05/supreme-court-roe-handmaids-tale-abortion-margaret-atwood/629833/?scrolla=5eb6d68b7fedc32c19ef33b4

Yes, it’s that Margaret Atwood. As if there is no argument that whatever you think about Roe, the U.S. Constitution is silent on the matter (and therefore the matter devolves to the states, etc.). Or even that there might be an atheist or ten who has objections to abortion-on-demand for non-religious reasons.

Apparently no one pointed out to her that her emotion-driven ‘argument” is devoid of evidence or reason? Perhaps because it just might be a career-destroying move to do so?

So, there you have it. Regardless of the issue, or the thought process, or the outcome, America is wrong about everything, completely, entirely, and equally. Whether conservative or ‘progressive’, America is just wrong about everything.
