Backfired: Journalist Attempts To Dunk On SCOTUS Over Abortion, Ends Up Accused Of ‘Islamophobia’
“This is Islamophobic. American Justices or lawmakers advancing U.S laws subjecting women to the cruelty of Christian extremism doctrine has nothing to do with Muslims. Leave us out of it.” – Rep. Ilhan Omar wrote in response to the now-deleted tweet.
There is backfiring. And then there is the type of epic backfiring that happened to a self-described “investigative journalist” Thursday after he attempted to dunk on the five conservative Supreme Court Justices who – if the draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito that was leaked to to the media last week holds – appear poised to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.
David Cay Johnston, whose 50-year+ CV includes investigative tax reporting stints at the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and Reuters among other left-wing news outlets, boasts of being a Pulitzer prize winner and a “Syracuse U law lecturer.” He’s written multiple books highly critical of former President Donald Trump, and his Twitter page is filled with exactly the type of mindless, insipid woke dogma you might expect to find from a leftist in response to the SCOTUS leak, like this:

But Johnston’s attempts at being cutesy boomeranged on him in a big way Thursday after he shared an altered photo of the Supreme Court Justices with the three female Justices – Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Amy Coney Barrett – all wearing burkas.
In a since-deleted tweet that initially went viral, he called it “brilliant political art”:

At some point after he posted the tweet, he began getting criticism over it from his fellow wokesters who didn’t appreciate him correlating allegedly oppressive actions like overturning Roe v. Wade to Islam.
He tried posting an explainer in another now-deleted tweet:
“Many commenting here miss the point of this political art. Its not about Islam. It’s about nominally Christian justices who don’t get the 14th or 19th Amendments and cite a witch hunter in the draft opinion. And yes I’m aware of Islamic law, which I’ve studied.”
But it didn’t do him any good. The accusations of “Islamophobia” piled up from a number of prominent Twitter blue checks on the left, including – most notably – anti-Semitic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.):

When Johnston was asked later why he deleted it, he said it was because it offended so many people who he claims misinterpreted him. He then inartfully explained that he wished he’d found a meme of the female Justices in “Margaret Atwood attire”:

The photo-op picture of the Justices was allegedly inappropriate, because, the supremacist and totalitarian ideology of “Submission” doesn’t treat women as chattel with lesser rights than men, and, in many Islamic countries, doesn’t force them to wear head coverings, face coverings or full-body coverings?

Prior to George W Bush Muslims voted Republican at about the same rate African Americans vote Democrat,
Bush won re-election in 2004 in no small part by engaging in a massive dehumanization campaign as he bathed in Muslim blood from one end of the middle east all the way to Afghanistan and understandably Muslims hated Republicans for that and turned Democrat.
It will be a long time till we could win them over again but we could at least start the process of courting them and we could at least drop the obsolete propaganda of the Bush era (should be easy Bush thinks you are the same as Muslims).
Attempting to place all Muslims into one box is as foolish and incorrect as attempting to place all Christians into one box or all Jews into one box. Islam consists largely of Shia and Sunni just as Christianity consists of Catholics and Protestants. Each of these broad categories in Christianity have additional subsets of splinter groups who formed due to differences in theology and practice. The same holds true for Muslims.
The US is a nation built on the ideals of western philosophy which was itself heavily influenced by Christianity and Judaism. We founded as a republic with a more or less moral /ethical culture derived from those traditions. That doesn’t make the US a ‘Christian’ nation. Consider the result of this basic research. Call the fire department for your city and get the total seating capacity for every active church. Now look at the census count for your city. You will find that the population far exceeds the seating capacity in Christian houses of worship.

The influence of Christianity and by extension Judaism on Western philosophy which directly underpin our founding documents and our culture can’t be denied. That’s an entirely different thing than being a nation where the overwhelming majority of people are actively demonstrating a commitment to the practice through attendance at weekly religious worship.

Yes, it’s that Margaret Atwood. As if there is no argument that whatever you think about Roe, the U.S. Constitution is silent on the matter (and therefore the matter devolves to the states, etc.). Or even that there might be an atheist or ten who has objections to abortion-on-demand for non-religious reasons.
