Middle East Studies Association Losing Institutional Members As Anti-Israel Boycott Resolution Voting Starts

MESA website lists 8 fewer institutional members since MESA passed an initial BDS resolution, which now is in process of a membership ratification vote.

As we previously reported, the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) passed a resolution at its December 2, 2021, business meeting endorsing boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) against Israel. The resolution was sent out last month to MESA’s full membership for ratification. The ratification vote opened January 31 and will close March 22.

LIF has previously covered the BDS vote:

At the time of the initial MESA BDS resolution, MESA’s website listed 54 institutional members. As of February 7, MESA lists only 46 institutional members, a 14.8% drop. Six universities that formerly belonged are no longer listed. They are:

Boston College
Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies
Florida State University
Marquette University
University of Arizona
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Besides the above universities, two research institutes listed last year are no longer included in MESA’s institutional membership list:

Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies
The Academic Research Institute in Iraq (TARII)

MESA website page contains list of MESA institutional members.

Florida State University previously notified LIF that it was discontinuing its MESA membership, as we reported January 16. Dennis Schnittker, FSU’s Assistant Vice President for University Communications, wrote: “The FSU Middle East Center did not renew its annual membership in MESA for the 2022 calendar year. Membership expired Dec. 31, 2021.”

On January 18, The Algemeiner reported that Anne Betteridge, Ph.D., Director of the University of Arizona Center for Middle Eastern Studies, stated her institution had also declined to renew its MESA membership. Algemeiner later revised its article to say that, according to Dr. Betteridge, Arizona hadn’t yet received its MESA dues notice.

LIF has reached out to University of Arizona, Boston College, Duke-UNC Consortium, Marquette, and University of Illinois but has received no response as of this writing.

On January 20, Amy Schlesing, former Executive Director of Strategic Communications for the University of Arkansas, emailed LIF that “The university has not renewed its institutional membership to MESA,” without explanation. As of this date, MESA does list the University of Arkansas as a member.

LIF reached out multiple times to MESA to ask for comment about the membership drop, but received no response.

8 out of 46? It’s a start.

Communist China can put Muslims in internment camps and the vile Dhimmi-crats couldn’t care less, because it’s not an excuse to engage in Jew-hate and Israel vilification on behalf of their Muslim supremacist/terrorist-sympathizing allies. Proof that the Dhimmi-crats don’t give a damn about Muslims’ welfare.

Maybe that means the term Dhimmicrats isn’t accurate, Democrats are not subordinate to a shadowy cabal of Muslims and you should stop using a term designed to increase racism.

If the Democrats started using the term Jewican yes that would be racist to knock off the Dhimmicrat stuff, Democrats as you JUST demonstrated don’t give a dam about Muslims.

You’re such an obsessive and childish fool. Really, you’re just a dim-witted idiot.

I’ll stop using the totally accurate term “Dhimmi-crat” as soon as the Dhimmi-crat Party stops welcoming Jew-hating Muslim supremacists, non-Muslim, Jew-hating, dhimmi, Israel-slanderers and Muslim terrorist-rationalizers/sympathizers/whitewashers into its tent. Until then, the moniker remains accurate and I’ll continue to use it.

Your moronic “Jewican” analogy is as manifestly fallacious as it is stupid — Jews aren’t exerting influence within the GOP to exhort hatred against Muslims and Islamic countries the way that Jew-haters Rashida Tlaib, Ilham Omar, Keith Ellison, and scores of other Dhimmi-crats are inciting and fomenting Jew-hate and Israel vilification, idiot. There’s nothing “racist” about the term “Dhimmi-crat,” idiot. Critical of Muslim supremacism and Jew-hate — yes, absolutely.

Danny — you’re so sagacious and morally upright — explain to the rest of us why the Dhimmi-crat Party’s disgraceful failure to censure the vile Jew-hater and Muslim supremacist, Ilhan Omar, after her brazen and blatant remarks of Jew-hate, does not represent the quintessence of useful-idiot, feckless, dhimmi behavior? Yeah, you don’t have a rebuttal to that. Idiot.

Lastly, idiot — “dhimmi” refers to useful-idiot, non-Muslims who are engaging in Jew-hate and otherwise carrying water. It doesn’t even refer to Muslims.

guyjones in reply to Danny. | February 9, 2022 at 10:34 am

      Dhimmi-crat, dhimmi-crat, dhimmi-crat!

      You’re a Jew-hating, Muslim supremacist sympathizer — that’s obvious. Go to hell.

      Sue me, idiot!

Danny in reply to guyjones. | February 9, 2022 at 2:21 pm

Unlike you I actually am a Jew, I just don’t approve of genocidal racist slogans.

If you want to defend the term Jewican in context of it being used by Democrats as an attack on Republicans…otherwise you are a hate filled bigot who just shows up to remind everyone you are the scum of the earth here to remind everyone “hate Muslims”.

Israel exists because Jews in the late 19th century moved back to our homeland with the permission and blessing of the Ottoman Sultan. During the first world war the Young Turks a secular anti-Islam party in contrast committed the first genocide of the 20th century and don’t forget that.

guyjones in reply to Danny. | February 9, 2022 at 10:43 am

I’ve remarked before, yet, you can never answer this, idiot —

It’s telling that you evince criticism over the innocuous — and, accurate — term, “Dhimmi-crat,” yet, you can’t even concede that the Dhimmi-crat Party is replete with innumerable Jew-haters, and, that the Party has engaged in incessant, unfair and reflexive Israel vilification (Jew-hate in another form).

You’re as stupid as you are intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt.

Danny in reply to guyjones. | February 9, 2022 at 2:26 pm

        1. Your a god damned idiot if you don’t think I have debunked your racist claims, more likely it is because a racist POS like you isn’t capable of reading.

        2. Being an anti-Semite has nothing to do with being Muslim unless you wish to argue Adolph Hitler, Tsar Alexander III, and Symon Petlura were all Muslims.

        3. I have actually explained why some Democrats hate Jews it is because we are a highly successful minority in the west, and in Israel we have achieved a degree of success and prosperity the low resources and population and bad water table would imply is impossible. Under the Democrats racial view of the world that could only be explained by us being oppressors. If you had a brain instead of blaming Muslims for the Democrats racial ideology you would address their racial ideology,

        4. See above, Israel is a first world western style country that is one of the most successful in the world in economics and technology. That is why it is so overtly vilified by a left that has endorsed CRT, it doesn’t help that half the population there look European (not unique to them).

        5. You have never answered how Dhimmicrats are supposed to be pro-partial birth abortion and transgenderism.

        6. Racist scumbags like you are the worst and I am overjoyed to see I got under your racist skin.

guyjones in reply to Danny. | February 9, 2022 at 10:46 am

Danny, learn how to spell and use grammar, properly.

      The word is spelled “damn.”

Also, one of your sentences should be written “…SUCH as you…”

Your writing is as poorly-contrived as your intellect and your logic.

I’m tired of proof-reading your stupid comments.

Danny in reply to guyjones. | February 9, 2022 at 2:27 pm

Sorry you aren’t worth proofreading, frankly your not worth the air you breathe either but I can’t help that. Stop using me and other Jews as your shield for hating Muslims you scumbag.

henrybowman in reply to Danny. | February 9, 2022 at 3:07 pm

And I can’t fathom why it is impossible for you to understand that “dhimmis” are NOT Muslims. They are non-Muslim quislings who knuckle under to Muslims… and the term extends to people who knuckle under to other political pressure groups that demand the same sort of “submission” that Muslims demand of their dhimmis.

Remember Biden’s insistence that “if you don’t vote for me, you ain’t black?” That is a classic call to dhimmitude, and the blacks who fall in line for it are dhimmis.

Do you all realize when you create the type of interactions as I have read here, how much you do to give disservice of the work which Prof. J. puts into making BDS at the national level a scourge for open and honest discovery of what is taking place at his level of University and Colleges. As a person who has traveled extensively to Israel and Prof. J.. has many friends in and out of academia and brings to the table an area much ignored. Please give his posts something more than what you all posted today.

With my apologies to you, Johanna Markind, the author of your wonderful coverage and references. Thank you..

To win the fight against BDS can’t be associated with hating Muslims.

The United States is not a hateful society, spamming terms meant to generate hatred is a great way to discredit articles (just see how often the left does hate hoaxes).

Yes, it got a teentsy bit out of hand, didn’t it?
