Sadly, early this year, I reported that the first recall effort for the soft-on-crime Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón had failed, leading to a spree of “smash and grab” as well as “slash and dash” crimes.
The second attempt, however, is underway. Fortunately, there are signs that it may succeed where the first one failed.
To begin with, as my colleague Mary Chastain noted, Gascón has staunchly defended his controversial handling of the prosecution of a transgender woman charged with sexually assaulting a child in a Denny’s restroom.
Now he is reversing himself, admitting his approach was…incorrect.
Gascón insisted as recently as last week that he was right to allow 26-year-old Hannah Tubbs to plead guilty in juvenile court, where her sentence was two years behind bars. Tubbs was 17 at the time of the attack, and Gascón told a reporter Wednesday that, in keeping with his policy of not trying juveniles as adults, he thought “the Tubbs case still does not belong in adult court.”Then Sunday evening, deep into a long holiday weekend, the reform-minded prosecutor made a dramatic shift. In an emailed statement, Gascón said his approach was incorrect: “The complex issues and facts of her particular case were unusual, and I should have treated them that way.”
There is a big reason for this U-turn. The county’s prosecutors are nearly unanimous in calling for his ouster. The polling among them….is at 98% for his recall.
More than 9 of 10 Los Angeles prosecutors are supporting an effort to recall District Attorney (DA) George Gascon, according to the Los Angeles Association of Deputy District Attorneys (LAADDA), which released the results of a vote among county prosecutors Tuesday.The LA County Registrar approved the recall, which is now seeking between 800,000 and 900,000 petition signatures, last year in the midst of the county’s violent crime spike that began in 2020.”It’s been one year of Gascon’s social experiment,” Eric Siddall, vice president of LAADDA, told Fox News Digital. “I think after that one year, people have had time to evaluate whether this is working or not working. I think most people who actually live in Los Angeles [and] understand what’s going on in Los Angeles, including the political leadership here in LA, feel that this has been a miserable failure.”

But it gets even better. Hollywood’s elite are putting their money behind the recall effort.
A list of left-learning donors published exclusively by Los Angeles Magazine and confirmed to Fox News Digital by the recall campaign highlights her point.Major donors so far this year include Mike Medavoy, co-founder of Orion Pictures and his wife, Irene Meadavoy; Ron Burkle, the co-founder of food and retail investment firm The Yucaipa Companies, LLC, and a President Clinton donor; Humbly Hills, President Biden’s pick for ambassador of Norway; billionaire media tycoon Marc Nathanson; real estate magnate and Hillary Clinton donor Jordan Kaplan; and Malibu condo developer Richard Weintraub and his wife Liane, according to records obtained by LA Magazine.Other big-name donors include George Clooney’s producing partner, Grant Heslov, and his wife Lysa; former 20th Century Fox executive, Jonathan Sheinberg; Cynthia Sikes Yorkin, widow of Bud Yorkin, the co-developer of the sitcom “All in the Family”; and Lauren King, widow of Richard King of King World Productions, syndicator behind “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!,” the magazine reported.
There are several reasons that progressives in the entertainment industry have been moved to respond. The murder of Brianna Kupfer, 24, by a homeless man as she was alone and working at a high-end furniture store in the Beverly Hills area. Under Gascon’s policies, the accused murderer, Shawn Laval Smith, was free on a $1,000 bail from a misdemeanor arrest in October 2020 at the time of the slaying.
Additionally, last December, a parolee with a long criminal history was arrested in the killing of Jacqueline Avant, a local philanthropist and wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant, in the couple’s Beverly Hills, California, home during a burglary. Avant’s daughter, Nicole, is married to Ted Sarandos, Netflix co-CEO.
Imagine an area where the crime has gotten so bad and the criminals so blatant that Hollywood’s progressives are at least eyeing the Red Pill. That, my friends, perfectly summarizes conditions in Gascón’s Los Angles.
