NBC Says Dropping Golden Globes in 2022 Due To Lack of Diversity

NBC Says Dropping Golden Globes in 2022 Due To Lack of Diversity

It definitely has absolutely nothing to do with the show’s abysmal ratings over the last few years.

The ratings for Hollywood awards shows are down across the board. It seems like the only people who are still watching are folks who work in the industry and entertainment reporters.

Yet NBC is claiming that they won’t carry the Golden Globe Awards next year because of its lack of a commitment to diversity. Right.

It definitely has absolutely nothing to do with the show’s abysmal ratings over the last few years.

Sara Fischer reports at Axios:

NBC won’t air Golden Globes in backlash against hosting group

NBC said Monday it won’t air the Golden Globes next year following the fallout around the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which puts on the show each year and is battling criticism that it’s not committed enough to diversity.

Why it matters: The network has been airing the event exclusively for decades. Its decision to pull back speaks to how big the backlash against the group has become.

What they’re saying: “We continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform,” NBC said, per Deadline.

“However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.”

Here’s a reminder of how the Golden Globes show did in the ratings back in March.

Nicholas Rice reported at People:

2021 Golden Globes Suffer a 64% Ratings Plunge amid HFPA Controversy and the COVID-19 Pandemic

The 2021 Golden Globes did not fare well in the ratings.

Sunday night’s ceremony garnered 6.9 million viewers, down 64% from the prior year’s show, according to a report from the Associated Press, that cited Nielsen Holdings.

Last year’s ceremony, which took place ahead of lockdowns related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, reached 18.4 million viewers, the outlet added.

The last time the Golden Globes had such a low viewing audience was back in 2008 during the writer’s strike. Instead of the typical star-studded event, a televised press conference announcing the winners took place, drawing in 6 million viewers, the AP reported.

But yeah, it’s all about diversity…

The more left-wing, political, and preachy these shows get, the fewer people tune in, and Hollywood refuses to understand this.

Whatever it takes to virtue signal.

Blame bad business choices on racism.

The new Woke excuse.
“I was late because of racism”
“I could not complete the project because of racism”
and the classic…
“The racism ate my homework”

Commit to TALENT, and diversity will just happen.
Unless, of course, you believe that only White people are talented, that “diverse” people lack the talent to succeed on their own merit.

These self-proclaimed anti-racists are actually very, very, very racist.

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”

“Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work.”

“Lack of diversity” my eye. “Lack of interest or anybody watching” is more like it.

It could be that the foreign press in Hollywood is self-selected from certain regions. Maybe they should force reporters from the Slave Coast to join the HFPA.

Tom Cruise recently sent back his GG statuettes. I guess they weren’t racist when he won them, or in the intervening decades since then, but became racist this year.

Hollywood is destroying its own business model, and good riddance.

“Commitment to diversity”. Why not just come right out and say “quotas”.

Because there used to be quotas whereby a certain percentage had to be minorities, but now all can be minorities, whereas there are no quotas for white people who may be one or two or none at all.

So not because viewership is in the tank.

So the wokest people on Earth respond to their ratings crisis by doubling-down on woke. This will end well.

I wonder if ESPN will drop the NBA because white people are under-represented on the court?

Lack of imagination may have something to do with it. How many more “reboots” of Batman can there be?

If they had a quality product, there would be interest. But they don’t, so there isn’t.

So true. I discovered TCM during the lockdown. Head and shoulders above the drivel coming out of Hollywood these days.

They think we’re stupid. We’re supposed to think abysmal ratings due to leftwing political preaching have nothing to do with it.

NBC drops Golden Globes because of diversity (i.e. color judgment), not limited to racism, sexism, from which a deficit progresses. Woke and [morally] broke.

If it weren’t for Ricky Gervais mocking them, I would have no knowledge that these things even exist.

When you can’t get people to watch who are literally locked in the house with nothing to do…

Hollywood reminds me of teats on a boar……useless!

Golden what? Who? What did myself and hundreds of millions of others miss?!?

Lack of ratings and lack of diversity, but mostly lack of ratings.

Really, ENTIRELY lack of ratings.

If the ratings hadn’t dropped off a cliff in recent years due to the wokeness and diversity, they’d never have cancelled them.

So, really, too much “diversity”, giving awards based on it with presenters chosen for it, is really the cause of its failure.
