Sweden’s Social Democrats Find Bernie Sanders Too Far Left
“It was a mixture of very young people and old Marxists, who think they were right all along. There were no ordinary people there, simply.”
The Social Democrats are the ruling party in Sweden, but they see right through the so-called “democratic socialists” here in America.
Looking at you, Sen. Bernie Sanders.
From The Week:
Johan Hassel, the international secretary for Sweden’s ruling Social Democrats, visited Iowa before the caucuses, and he wasn’t impressed with America’s standard bearer for democratic socialism, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). “We were at a Sanders event, and it was like being at a Left Party meeting,” he told Sweden’s Svenska Dagbladet newspaper, according to one translation. “It was a mixture of very young people and old Marxists, who think they were right all along. There were no ordinary people there, simply.”
Hassel was most “impressed” with Pete Buttigieg, though he also liked Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). Eric Kleefeld, assiduous student of foreign politics, provides some context on Sweden’s Social Democrats:
The Swedish Social Democrats have governed that country almost non-stop for the past 100 years. They’ve only had very rare turns out of office, and quickly got back in.
Simply put, they are the “Nordic Model” we hear about — which also makes them their own “establishment”!

Some more context: The “Left Party” he talks about in there is the old Communist Party back home in Sweden. (They changed their name around 1990 or so — wonder why.)
The Left/Communists have worked with the Social Democrats in minority parliaments, but never included in cabinet.

Sanders praises the “Nordic model,” but it turns out that his idea of “democratic socialism” differs from Sweden. This has caused the Swedes numerous headaches:
Well, democratic socialism is different than Sweden’s social democracy — the “Nordic model” Sanders touts — “and, unfortunately, Sanders has contributed to this confusion,” writes MIT political economist Daron Acemoglu. Democratic socialism seeks to fix the iniquities of the market economy by handing control of the means of production to a company’s workers or “an administrative structure operated by the state,” he explains. “European social democracy is a system for regulating the market economy, not for supplanting it.”
Lars Løkke Rasmussen, then the prime minister of Denmark, made a similar point in a speech at Harvard in 2015, when Sanders was gaining national attention. “I know that some people in the U.S. associate the Nordic model with some sort of socialism,” he said. “Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy. Denmark is a market economy,” albeit with “an expanded welfare state which provides a high level of security to its citizens.”

“old Marxists”, that is Bernie Sanders. Marxism, like Sanders, does not and never worked.
Marxists/Communists are the Maynard G. Krebs of the political world.
On purpose. Dezinformatsiya is the Left’s version of taqiyya.
Are you now, or have you ever been a Bernie Bro?
There has been a horrible change to the Swedish model since muslims have been pouring into that country. As a homogeneous country, they were able to pull off things that America and other melting pot countries can never make work. The citizens are rule followers and have the same culture. There are no “Victim” groups who must be attended to. There was a very small proportion of the poor and underclass. Not any more! Now they are supporting thousands of muslim families and crime is skyrocketing. They now have a significant part of their citizenry on welfare and even have their own “No go” zones like Britain. Bernie, like most leftists, pick and choose what they tout as a success.
Communists like Bernie lie as well as a Clinton?
Still, many Dems will vote for Bernie. Not all, but many. They are, in effect, Party Bots.
They’re also Russian Controlled!!!!!
Probably won’t matter. Bernie may be the only Dem candidate generating “excitement” relatively speaking but voter turnout has been low and many (most) Dem voters are not only NOT on board but alarmed. I can’t think of a suitable analogy other than “tempest in a tea pot”.
The Dems are heading for disaster no matter who they replace him with and they know it. They just want to lose “constructively”.
Also, until recently Sweden was populated almost exclusively by white Swedes with deep routes in that culture. Now that they’ve opened the borders to violent Islamists, it’s not likely that their model will work either. There MUST be a ruling consensus for any system to work. It can’t be just welfare for angry aliens.
“roots” not “routes”
Swedenstani you mean?
Democracy (and the democracy-by-proxy that is a republic) requires a certain amount of cultural homogeneity to work properly. When everyone agrees on the fundamental values, the democratic process can resolve secondary disputes. Compromise or reasonable accomodation is possible.
Cultural divisions at the fundamental level mutate the democratic process into a political weapon for whoever gets 50%+1 of the votes to wield against everyone else. Compromise is derided as weakness, and no amount of accomodation satisfies the groups out of power.
These two paragraphs by “dred” succinctly describe the US as it stands today. The final complete melding of the media and the Democratic Party have brought us to a decision point.
Are we going to continue on the path that provided our successes or march toward the cliff of mediocrity and finally, failure?
(TTTO: By the Time I Get to Phoenix)
By the time we vote next November
We’ll be crazy
The Democrats are sure to drive us there
With each idea they just keep on leaning
“To the left boys!”
We heard them all declare
Chris Matthews says Democrats are better off with four more years of Trump than Sanders
I’d agree to the country taking on a bit more debt to buy one way tickets for bernie and his supporters to go live in Sweden.
I should probably have included I mean “bus”tickets. LOL.
