How Will Democrats Vote? Republican Sen. Steve Daines Introduces Resolution Condemning Socialism
“Today we make a choice. Freedom or Socialism. I choose freedom”
During his 2019 State of the Union address, President Trump proclaimed, “Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will NEVER be a socialist country.” While this did not make Democrat presidential candidate and avowed socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) happy, it’s a statement well in-line with the majority of American voters.
The current Democrat clown car of presidential candidates, however, support a range of policy and agenda items that carry the distinct stench of socialism. The AOC plus three “Squad” is also working overtime to pull the party to the socialist left.
The result has been an unofficial embrace of socialism by Democrat primary voters, so much so that they loudly booed Democrat presidential candidate and former Colorado governor John Hickenlooper for denouncing socialism in the first Democrat presidential debate.
The trend is raising alarms among Republican politicians and normal Americans who do not see socialism as compatible with American values or with our Constitution. Among those concerned is Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) who introduced a resolution condemning socialism.
Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) on Monday introduced a resolution condemning socialism, taking to the Senate floor to blast Democratic policies he said would lead to “complete government control.”
“A radical, socialist, far-left movement is growing across this country. And it has taken root as the new voice of the Democratic Party … Today we make a choice. Freedom or Socialism. I choose freedom,” Daines said Monday.
In prepared remarks, the Montana senator condemned policies supported by the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, such as the Green New Deal and Medicare for All. The resolution claims without evidence that the proposals would “eliminate the private property rights of all people of the United States.”
The resolution further calls capitalism “the greatest engine for human advancement in the history of the world, bringing more people out of poverty and into prosperity than any economic model in the history of mankind.”
In his remarks on the Senate floor, Daines quoted Milton Freedman.
“It was renowned economist Milton Friedman who said, ‘One of the great mistakes is to judge policies and programs by their intentions rather than their results,’” Daines said. “Radical Democrats are advocating for disastrous policies that would wreck our economy under the guise of cleaning up the environment,” Daines asserted.
Daines took to Twitter to share his strong stance against the scourge of socialism in America.

.@realDonaldTrump said it best at #SOTU: We are born free and we will stay free. America will never be a socialist country.

If you can’t view the Fox News segment in the tweet, watch it here:
Fox News has more on Daines Senate floor remarks:
Montana Republican Sen. Steve Daines introduced a resolution forcefully condemning what he called the “failed experiment” of socialism on Monday, warning that the United States had “two paths to take” — with one leading to “freedom,” and the other, “complete government control, undermining our constitution and our American way of life.”
. . . . “We are at a pivotal time in our great nation’s history,” Daines said. “We have shown the world time and time again the genius of American ingenuity and the grit of American determination. However, a radical, socialist, far-left movement is growing across this country. And it has taken root as the new voice of the Democratic Party.”

Well isn’t that special!!!! Can someone tell my why we have the time to do this and not, you know, maybe work on spending???
So you think he’s going to somehow mind control Pelosi into producing a balanced budget, eh?
To get everyone on the record about where they stand.
I would rather these feckless cowards repeal actual socialism like the rest of Obamacare, various crony corporate subsidies (like the ExIm bank), Section 8, SNAP/EBT, and the rest rather than have a resolution that the final 30% of The Road to Serfdom is somehow bad. Return it to charities that hold people responsible for their behavior or change it into insurance. Or maybe no voting if you have a negative tax payer value until you pay it back.
And just maybe if we didn’t send our jobs to Mexico and China, or replace US workers with H1-Bs, they wouldn’t need this part of Socialism.
Handing the education system over to socialists will result in socialism….nobody who was paying attention is shocked
Time to socialize the grades.
“Yes Mary, you did get all 10 correct, but Susie only got 3 correct so I’m taking 3 1/2 of your answers and giving them to Susie”.
See how fast socialism fails using the grading system.
Virtue signaling, on the right or the left, is tiresome. This is just a waste of time.
Unfortunately, virtue signaling counts in our society infested with cultural Marxism.
Present!
Abstain!
I don’t expect any Yays or Nays from the D’s.
Article IV Section 4 of the Constitution seems to be pretty clear about our form of government:
Section 4 – Republican government
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence
I suppose this Resolution is a step in the right direction to “guarantee” that from of government.
That guarantee of protection from invasion is not being honored. In fact, all too many of our federal legislators actively subvert this guarantee.
Of the seven comments posted on this thread? Five of them aren’t buying the bull-s Sen. Steve Daines is selling. The other two aren’t buying it either, they just had other things to discuss.
Faith. In. America. Restored.
“the greatest engine for human advancement in the history of the world, bringing more people out of poverty and into prosperity than any economic model in the history of mankind.”
True, but only for those who are willing to work for it. We have rather large numbers of people who feel they deserve prosperity without doing anything to earn it.
Since FDR we (us, via government) have been weaning segments of the population away from self-sufficiency and into dependence on government. Pushing it back the other way will definitely be pushing against the tide. Not everyone involved will be happy.
It has become time to plant the flag. This may be that hill we often mention.

It’s a step in the right direction, a step towards actually confronting these communists and exposing them for what they are. The resolution defines socialism which makes it very difficult for the commies to weasel out. If they vote to support it, they will be exposed as liars. If they vote against, they confirm what we already know. Choosing to abstain is the same as voting against it. Just like kneeling for the national anthem, you can’t abstain.
The Dems are vastly misreading the American character. Socialism has not yet been presented as a complete surrender of personal freedom. Those polls showing socialism as being very popular will change once we freedom lovers go nose-to-nose with the tyrants to expose them. It is not a difficult case to make. We just have to make it and be persistent about it. I expect Trump will be tweeting about this.
Actually, this is a brilliant piece of trolling. Would you believe a moderately intelligent way of making a point?
Would you believe 3 girl scouts and a mean dog?
I don’t have a problem with the basic idea, but it’s still too complicated. It needs a “soundbite” version. A political bon mot, like Bush I’s “Political Correctness” speech. Before “PC” we didn’t have a shorthand designation for the practice of shutting up people who say things other people don’t want said. We need the same for the socialist menace. And anything involving the word “capitalism” isn’t it. The key words are “liberty” (as they put it in the Revolutionary era) or “freedom”.
Control, or Freedom. Pick one.
Sen. Daines: How the hell can you still ally yourself with pelosi?
This is going to be as if Sen. Andrew Johnson (D-Tenn.) had proposed what would become the 13th Amendment — in 1859.
…or more accurately, I suppose, William Seward (R-NY).
Come on, now. Think of all the great Socialists and their great governments in history. There was Stalin, with his Soviet Socialists. Then there was Hitler, with his National Socialists. We can’t leave out Chairman Mao, a dedicated Socialist. Pol Pot, another Socialist, tried to beat Mao’s genocide record, but didn’t even come close.
Look at the great things Socialism has done for Cuba, Venezuela, and North Korea. You may starve to death, but at least you’ll know everyone else is starving as well (except the Socialists at the top of the heap).
