Germany to deport Palestinian terrorist Rasmea Odeh at urging of U.S. Ambassador Richard Grenell
Murderer of two Israeli students was deported by the U.S. for immigration fraud in September 2017, but was invited by German anti-Israel boycott group.
When Rasmea Odeh was deported to Jordan by the U.S. government for immigration fraud in September 2017, it was uncertain whether we would hear from her again.
Who is Rasmea Odeh?
Odeh was the military member of the terrorist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine who masterminded and carried out the bombing of the SuperSol Supermarket in Jerusalem in 1969, killing two Hebrew University students. We recently marked the 50th Anniversary of the bombing, In Memory of Edward Joffe and Leon Kanner, murdered 50 years ago in a Jerusalem supermarket bombing.
Odeh was convicted of the bombing after a lengthy trial which even an observer from the International Red Cross said was fair. Odeh served 10 years of her life sentence before being released in a prisoner exchange for an Israeli soldier captured in Lebanon. Odeh then made her way to the U.S. where she lied on her visa and naturalization forms. When her fraud was discovered, she was prosecuted, and then deported in a plea deal by which she escaped a prison term.
Odeh and her supporters concocted a demonstrably false story that she only was convicted in Israel after she falsely confessed after 25 days of sexual torture. In fact, the evidence showed that she confessed after one day, and the additional evidence against her was overwhelming. Rasmea became a hero to the anti-Israel movement in the U.S., including now-Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib.
Odeh also was honored to huge applause at the 2017 national meeting of the anti-Zionist anti-Semitic Jewish Voice for Peace, one of her longest-supporters, where she was embraced on stage by another honoree, Linda Sarsour.
Another anti-Israel group, the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights, also backed Odeh. Here you can see the U.S. Campaign staff, including executive director Yousef Munayyer, wishing Odeh farewell and pledging to meet her in “liberated Palestine.”
Odeh recently was invited by a German Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions group to speak in Germany. Ben Weinthal of the Jerusalem Post reported:
Germany’s Interior Minister Horst Seehofer is prepared to allow convicted Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorist Rasmea Odeh to speak at an event in Berlin on Friday organized by a reportedly antisemitic BDS alliance organization.
German Green Party politician Volker Beck slammed Odeh’s planned participation. “Why isn’t a convicted terrorist like Rasmea Odeh’s entry in the Schengen Information System blocked? Why did one name the Residence Act hate preaching as an obstacle to entry if these laws are then not applied,” he wrote on Facebook….
Italy’s government barred Leila Khaled, a convicted PFLP terrorist and plane hijacker, from entering its territory in 2017.
Beck, an expert on contemporary antisemitism in Germany and a lecturer at the Center for Studies in Religious Sciences (CERES) at the Ruhr University in Bochum, wrote that if BDS supports this Odeh event in Berlin it is “ one propagandistic support for anti-Israeli terrorism. The big brother of the Jewish Voice for Just Peace in Middle East is also doing this. Support here does not mean in the legal, but in the transmitted sense.”
Beck’s reference to the “big brother” of the pro-BDS Jewish Voice for Just Peace in the Middle East is the US-based Jewish Voice for Peace that hosted Odeh at its spring 2017 conference in Chicago. The head of the NGO said at the time that organization was “honored to hear from her.”
Odeh’s entry in to Germany, however, was barred after the intervention of U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell. Weinthal further reports:
A strongly worded statement from Richard Grenell, the US ambassador to Germany, caused the German government to cancel an event on Friday with a convicted Palestinian terrorist who murdered two Israeli students.
Grenell told The Jerusalem Post on Friday “It was the right decision. The Germans made the right decision.”
Berlin’s department for interior announced in a statement on Friday that they barred Rasmea Odeh from speaking in the capital and revoked her visa. The German authorities said Odeh must immediately leave the Schengen Area that is comprised of 26 European nations.
According to the interior department’s statement, Odeh was barred from speaking because “the political activity of a foreigner may be limited or prohibited, as far as it affects the political decision making in the Federal Republic of Germany or the peaceful coexistence of Germans and foreigners or of various groups of foreigners in the federal territory, public safety and order or other significant interests of the Federal Republic of Germany or endangered.”
The Trump administration’s most high-profile ambassador, Grenell, told Fox News on Thursday: “The rise of antisemitism around the world is very troubling. Some people plant the seeds of antisemitism while others water it and help it grow. Offering a public speaking role to a Palestinian terrorist convicted of murder, terrorism and immigration fraud legitimizes antisemitism at a time when we should be condemning it.”
He added: “I join the chorus of others who have raised their voices in Berlin standing against antisemitism no matter where it’s found.”
JTA reports that the venue also barred the event:
Berlin is blocking an appearance by convicted Palestinian terrorist Rasmea Odeh, who had been scheduled to speak at a conference on “Palestinian Women Fighting for Liberation.”
Following protests, the city’s department for interior affairs announced late Friday afternoon that they had barred Odeh from speaking in the city and cancelled her visa, on the grounds that the political activities of a non-citizen can be limited or prohibited if these activities break German law or endanger the peace.
The venue also has cancelled its rental for the event.
The Berlin Spectator headlined the deportation, and provided information and photos of the protest against Odeh:
Pery Smadar, a Berlin-based Israeli activist, organized a rally in front of a community center in Berlin’s Kreuzberg borough where Odeh was supposed to speak in front of an audience. Earlier this evening, some 50 participants protested against Odeh’s presence in Germany and against the event she was scheduled to participate in.
Before 6:00 p.m., police officers approached Rasmea Odeh, confiscated her passport and instructed her to come to the foreigners’ registration office on Monday. She might be deported to Jordan on the same day. The terrorist was also told not to participate in any events of the kind she was going to attend.

The chairman of the Kurdish community of Germany persuaded her in long conversations to give the terrorist no stage – whereupon the organizers of the lease was terminated.
Rasmea Odeh is an unrepentant terrorist murderer. Her supporters are despicable people. They all should rot.

Germany has real laws prohibiting hate speech. I cannot imagine that anyone thought that inviting a convicted, unrepentant terrorist and virulent anti-semite to speak would be considered lawful.
The invitation itself was a publicity stunt.

This should be policy for EVERY terrorist, no matter how big or small. Make them fear for their lives for how ever long they have to live before karma catches up with them.

I’m not going to applaud political censorship just because it’s a cause I do not support. But, Germany’s laws have afflicted many others. I can’t feel very bad about Odeh getting her turn. I hope no one starts complaining that she was singled out… I can’t remember names offhand, but the UK has banned a number of American culture war figures on the right from entering that country, and so on and so forth.
She’s not a cultural war figure, however, and it’s not censorship to deport a convicted terrorist. She did participate in murder and lied to obtain US citizenship. A far cry from Spencer or Geller.
And yet, mysteriously, Germany hasn’t cited any of that for why it has barred her. It had loads and loads of grounds, just like you say… but cited none of them.

That’s a citation to their hate speech law. It’s been applied to others, and it would be strange is it were not applied to her.
The Germans see themselves as a special case. They settled WWII and allowed large numbers of military and civilian government employees to return to normal life, in exchange for permanent restrictions on their political activity.

Military or government service is perfectly legal, even in the National Socialist state. It’s hardly in the same class as terrorist bombing.

I agree. It would be one thing if these murderers served their time and went on to lead quiet lives. But letting murderers like the vocal Odeh to walk the earth allows them to commit additional evils with their propaganda. The world is better off with them being liquidated, sooner rather than later.
Yet another example of why Ric Grenell was the right choice for the job!
This is what blows my mind, and it isn’t the first time. The German Green Party used to be a bastion not just of dedicated communist watermelons but also of old nazis. But over the last few years I keep noticing decency in its ranks that I would never have expected to see there before.
