I’ve long predicted that the point would come when Democrats, frustrated and forlorn at the mediocre qualities of their primary candidates, would search for a salvation candidate.Think about who have declared so far: Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Amy from Minnesota, Kirsten Gillibrand — all second tier politicians who will pick up the anti-Trump vote just by being Democrats, but not much more. Tulsi Gabbard is a new face nationally, but has too much Assad baggage. Julian Castro is the guy who had less responsibility as Mayor of San Antonio than Sarah Palin had as the Mayor of Wasilla.Think about who might enter the race: Joe Biden and Bernie? A smoocher and a socialist. Great. Actually, not great. Beto could generate some excitement, but he seems to be using campaigning as emotional therapy, not good. Bloomberg wants to take away your Big Gulps — yeah, that should work.If I were a Democrat looking at the present and future field of candidates, I’d be in a complete panic even though the general election is over 20 months away. Wishing for a Trump collapse is not a mature electoral strategy.Which gets me to the non-candidate candidate who has been playing her cards just right to set herself up to save the Democrat Party without having to dirty her hands in this early electoral season scrum.You heard me right: Michelle Obama is the Democrat 2020 frontrunner, even if she doesn’t want to be:

In our January 1, 2018, Predictions post, I predicted the Michelle would run because Democrats would be in a panic if they didn’t recapture the House
3. Get ready. This is the BIG ONE. If as predicted Republicans hold the Senate and House, there will be a clamoring for a Democrat candidate who can unify and motivate the Democrat base and establishment sufficiently to defeat Donald Trump in 2020: Michelle Obama.
Democrats did retake the House, but not the Senate, so mark that as a prediction that didn’t hold. But I don’t think the logic for Michelle has changed, given the likely Democrat field, which may measure in the dozens. “[T]here [still] will be a clamoring for a Democrat candidate who can unify and motivate the Democrat base and establishment sufficiently to defeat Donald Trump in 2020.”
That person uniquely is Michelle. There is a good indicator in the reveal that her Memoirs, released just after Election Day, have shattered sales expectations.
More proof.
Michelle made a surprise appearance at the Grammys, and the crowd went wild. You can dismiss it as a uniformly liberal crowd, but it’s also the type of crowd who would give a Democrat primary candidate buzz and momentum.
The NY Times had a tingle running up its leg:
Those expecting a ho-hum Grammys night were surely jolted awake on Sunday when, just minutes into the show, Michelle Obama walked onto the stage hand-in-hand with Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith and Jennifer Lopez. They were joined by the host Alicia Keys.
In the surprise appearance, which doubled as a moment of female solidarity the Grammys needed, Obama spoke to the crowd as it erupted in applause and cheers.
“All right, all right, we got a show to do,” Obama, who wore a loose-fitting shimmering silver jumpsuit, said playfully when the audience wouldn’t settle down.

The Express in Britain asked the right question, Is Michelle Obama Grammys appearance setting her up for 2020 race?
Michelle says she doesn’t want to be President. I believe her.
But how will she feel about as the Democrat primary field devolves into further mediocrity, and Trump’s prospects for reelection improve. How will she feel when Democrats turn to her in near unison and plead with her to save them from four more years of Orange Man Bad?
