Chicago’s Top Cop: Police are ‘Second-Guessing Themselves’

Chicago’s Top Cop: Police are ‘Second-Guessing Themselves’

Cops risking their lives even more….

It seems every time a cop shoots someone it becomes a national story with charges of racism and excessive force against them. Now the situation has cops deciding not to defend themselves.

Chicago Superintendent Eddie Johnson said one of his officers didn’t defend herself against the man who beat her unconscious because of the backlash she and the department might receive:

“As I was at the hospital last night, visiting with her, she looked at me and said she thought she was gonna die, and she knew that she should shoot this guy, but she chose not to because she didn’t want her family or the department to go through the scrutiny the next day on national news,” Johnson said while attending a public ceremony honoring heroic officers and firefighters.

“This officer could (have) lost her life last night,” the superintendent said. “She’s hospitalized right now, but she still has the spirit and the bravery that these officers and firefighters display every day — every day. We have to change the narrative of the law enforcement across this country.”

A man allegedly high on PCP got into a struggle with the 17-year veteran. He “smashed the officer’s face into the pavement repeatedly until she was unconscious.” Two other officers received injuries while arresting this man:

“Just yesterday, we had an incident where officers responded to a simple traffic accident,” Johnson said during the ceremony. “Traffic accident — now I want you to think about this for a moment. Responded to a traffic accident to render aid wherever they could. A subject who was under the influence of PCP attacked a female officer, viciously pounded her head into the street as her partner tried to get him off of her. And this attack went on for several minutes.”

Asked whether the incident was an example of officers “laying back,” Johnson said “it’s an example of how dangerous this job is. And because of the scrutiny going on nationwide, there (are) officers second-guessing themselves. That’s what we don’t want.”

Leslie continues to follow the disturbances in California after cops used deadly force out of fear for their lives. Despite this, Black Lives Matters activists have protested, rioted, and even left threatening graffiti in Los Angeles.

In July, a sniper shot twelve officers, five of which passed away. Last month, though, Sgt. Demetrick Pennie, president of the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation and a 17-year veteran, filed a lawsuit against leaders of Black Lives Matters for inciting violence:

The listed defendants include not only those associated with the Black Lives Matter movement but public figures such as the Rev. Al Sharpton, Louis Farrahkan, George Soros, the New Black Panthers Party and even President Barack Obama and presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

According to the suit, the defendants “have repeatedly incited their supporters and others to engage in threats of and attacks to cause serious bodily injury or death upon police officers and other law enforcement persons of all races and ethnicities.”

A good, responsible commander will pull that officer off of any duty involving the potential use of force.

She can’t be trusted to defend herself, her fellow officers, or the innocent public. She can serve in various ways, but not in any capacity where force is likely to be needed.

…until there’s a robbery disguised as a terrorist incident at the Sears Tower and she has to draw her weapon to save the life of an out of town cop and his wife after said cop stops the robbery and saves the day.

What ye sow ye shall reap. You want cops to be PC, you get cops who are afraid to do what needs to be done. Rags is absolutely correct–put her into an assignment where having to use deadly force is minimized.

The criminals want the cops to be disarmed. And the political criminals want the civilians disarmed.

Thank Obama and the Democrats for this political fear added to the physical and mental risks officers face.

she knew that she should shoot this guy, but she chose not to because …

This sounds like a training problem. “Priorities” in dynamic situations are something which should be taught, so they don’t have to be reasoned out when there isn’t time to do so.

There’s an obvious parallel in flight training, where students are taught to aviate (keep ‘er flying), navigate (figure out where the hell they are), and, last and definitely least, communicate (tell the tower where they are). These are all important tasks, but not equally important—the order is vital; getting that wrong is a good way to turn a pilot into a statistic.

It’s not hard, but it does have to be taught, both in the air and on the streets of Chicago.

her partner tried to get him off of her. And this attack went on for several minutes

OK, so two of them need more training.

I think this woman’s fear of shooting the suspect was totally reasonable. Remember, she only had a short period of time when she could have gotten to her gun before he incapacitated her. Rather than thinking she was incapable of taking the shot, I suspect she hesitated. And the moment passed. The guys was on PCP. A male officer was unable to stop the attack. Exactly what sort of training could have helped? Maybe training the suspect not to take PCP.

Alinsky has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams.

The same sort of problem exists in Israel, particularly in the “territories”, where Jewish residents (known by antisemites as “settlers”) often hesitate to shoot in self defense because they know that whether they’re right or wrong the authorities will come down on them like a ton of bricks.

I think Chicago will soon steal the Cleveland sobriquet, “the mistake on the lake.”

Sorry for that officer. Of course nobody talks about the decades of corrupt Chicago police officers like john Burger ,Walter Gliniwicz etc.that create a negative climate.
Also Ms Chastain a cop was killed in St Louis. Since the cop killer was white ,are you going to do an article on this? Didn’t his blue life matter? You love to insert BLM and black people accused of killing cops whenever you can. Even when it’s not relevant. Have the same hatred for white cop killers.

I meant John Burge and Joseph Gliniwicz
