State Department Will Release Emails from Top Hillary Aide

Tuesday, The Hill reported the State Department will sift through and release emails of top Hillary Clinton aide, Huma Abedin.

29,000 pages of Adedin’s emails will be scrutinized by the State Department for monthly release over the next 14 months. At least 400 pages per month (should they meet certain requirements) will be published in a similar fashion as Hillary Clinton’s.

From The Hill:

The State Department has agreed to comb through 29,000 pages of emails from a top aide to Hillary Clinton and release batches of those emails every month. In a federal court filing on Monday, the department said it would process at least 400 pages of emails from Huma Abedin’s personal, non-government email account per month. The searches come as part of a lawsuit launched by conservative watchdog organization Judicial Watch, which has embarked on a flurry of legal actions related to Clinton and her top aides. The rolling production schedule will begin on March 1, the court said, with a goal of handing over all of the emails that pertain to Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act request by April 30, 2017. While at least 400 emails will be processed per month, fewer might be released if they do not meet the terms of Judicial Watch’s request. It’s unclear if the full batch of 29,000 pages of emails will be released. The agreement is likely to lead to new scrutiny on Abedin, who served as Clinton’s deputy chief of staff while she was secretary of State.Like Clinton, who is running for president, Abedin used a personal email address throughout her tenure at the State Department, to the frustration of conservatives and transparency advocates. Unlike Clinton, Abedin also used a government account that ended in state.gov.

The FBI, who is already on Clinton’s tail for sending classified information through her private email account and home-brewed server, has expanded that investigation to include The Clinton Foundation.

Last week, we learned (thanks to a tardy document release by State) Clinton seemingly instructed her staffers to remove classified designations in order to send classified information over insecure channels.

Hillary has long-insisted that no classified information passed through her home-brewed server. That story then morphed into, “no information that was classified at the time.” That seems to be Camp Hillary’s story and they’re sticking to it. At least until they change it again.

In September of 2015, I wrote:

Was there a concerted conspiracy to violate the law, particularly given the fact that Clinton opted for a private email on her person server? Who else knew classified information was being transmitted outside of government purview? If any of these suspicions are confirmed throughout the course of the FBI’s investigation, will aides then be offered legal concessions if they cooperate? What were once Clinton’s closest lackeys may end up being her downfall.

Now that the State Department will be digging into Abedin’s emails, we may have the answers to these questions sooner rather than later.
