Bernie Sanders’ $5.5 Billion Plan to Employ a Million People

Bernie Sanders’ $5.5 Billion Plan to Employ a Million People

Math hard

With the media busy normalizing socialism for Bernie Sanders, it’s no wonder that few are reporting on his latest plan to spend $5.5 billion to employ a million young people.

Bloomberg has the details:

The Employ Young Americans Now Act is the sort of legislation that would have struggled even in a Democratic Congress. In a Capitol controlled by Republicans, it might as well propose taxing churches to pay for sex reassignment surgeries on a moon base. The legislation, introduced by Michigan Representative John Conyers, would create a $5.5 billion fund, $4 billion earmarked for the employment of people between 16 and 24, $1.5 billion for job training grants. There are no pay-fors. It would ask a Congress that is dead-set against “big government” to employ people, with the help of big government.

Yet the bill’s Senate sponsor is Vermont’s Bernie Sanders. That matters quite a lot in June 2015. On Thursday morning, Sanders joined Conyers on a visit to the H.O.P.E. Project in southeast Washington. The presidential candidate toured a small but busy office, located above a strip mall, that had successfully trained 375 people in the IT field, and seen 315 of those people get jobs that paid an average of $42,000—far above the median income locally. Ninety-three percent of graduates were African-American, and when Sanders entered a computer room—pausing to greet every student—the only white faces belonged to journalists and staffers. The room was crowded with TV cameras and iPhones, some pointed at four words on the wall: “HARVARD OF THE HOOD.”

Apparently, this isn’t just an attempt at big, bigger, biggest government but a means of voter outreach to African-Americans.  Considering that the Democrat nominee will need that section of the Obama voting bloc, it’s a good move.

But $5.5 billion for one million $42,000/year jobs?  Really?

To be fair, Democrats always need to break several hundred shells when they make 3 egg omelets.

He is like what they said about the Bourbons in France circa 1818: learned nothing, and forgotten nothing.

you should recheck your math … 5.5 billion divided by a million is $5,500 per job …

Wasn’t that lower figure the average of what the 91% earned from the jobs program referenced?

It also matters how the jobs are counted. In all probability, ten people hired for one month each counts as ten, or even worse, if ten people hired for a week each over the course of a year could count as 520.

That was my reaction too. Compared to most dem plans, this one actually would make sense. However, the most likely outcome is that it would provide less than 10% of the targeted jobs and cost 10x more than planned.

Heh. I guess I was thinking of typical government efficiency. It’ll cost at least twice that (probably much more) to train less than half (probably far fewer) the proposed million, with only a (tiny) fraction of those getting actual full-time, long-term jobs out of it. Another big government waste of money on something it shouldn’t be doing in the first place.

Job “training” = a Negative wage, except in this case, the government is paying for it. A sub-minimum wage might be a lot better.

The math fails.
Who in their right mind would be paid so little the training? Unless we’re talking a Udemy approach…all online?

Of course, they don’t teach dishwashing and hand wringing online.

And who would want a bartender that only did online courses and never mixed a real drink during happy hour?

But yeah, I could see where they’d teach people to spy on other people…brown shirt (with apologies to UPS) monitors.

1984 — intended as a cautionary tale, but Liberals/Socialists see it as a playbook and manual.

Bernie should be made to read Dr. Sowell’s excellent “Basic Economics”.

Then he should be beaten every day until he demonstrates some comprehension. Or just STFU. (I am nothing if not kind.)

What the hell does math matter, it’s free shit for the election!

I agree with the statement, but think you should lose the exclamation point. Sadly, what you said is, I think, the simple truth, not hyperbole.

Ok still laughing at the byline 🙂

Bernie has been staying up late watching all 30 episodes of “The House of Cards” on Netflix. “America Works” or “AmWorks” is President Frank Underwood’s program to eliminate unemployment.

I have worked with inner city people for years and am highly skeptical of the success rate being stated. How in the hell can they learn IT material if they can’t read, write or speak proper English? If they can, then they were hand-selected and this training will not help the typical person living in this area.

Yeah, all that, but they can still let Democrats steal their votes!
