Zimmerman Verdict Reached: NOT GUILTY

Zimmerman Verdict Reached: NOT GUILTY

Prof. Jacobson: “Angela Corey should resign”

A verdict has been returned in Florida v. Zimmerman:

NOT GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS

The State prosecutors, including the until recently rarely-seen Angela Corey, are currently providing interviews to the press, essentially re-arguing their catastrophically failed courtroom arguments. From this commentator’s perspective, they are simply in complete denial and/or in full-blown CYA mode, no matter how often they say they respect the decision of the jury.

It is also remarkable how frequently both Angela Corey and Bernie de la Rionda are explicitly re-affirming their support of the Second Amendment and self-defense–perhaps they sense the “seething rage, ill-will, spite, and hatred” they may well have engendered among the community of law-abiding gun-owners and CWL owners in Florida.

Reactions from around the web can be found at this post: includes press conference videos of key people connected to the trial, photos of demonstrators outside the Florida courthouse, tweets/photos/videos related to current and scheduled “Justice for Trayvon” marches, verdict reactions from Twitter and embedded feeds for key Twitter hashtags. It will continue to be updated.

The Prof. will have his post in the morning as he’s stuck at O’Hare Airport now, but quickly adds:

The just verdict was reached. As I have said repeatedly, this was a case that never should have been brought. It’s not too early to demand an inquiry into the prosecution of this case. Angela Corey should resign.

MOM is so classy. When asked if it was a fair fight, he apologized to public defenders for what he said in recent presser–prosecution is used to getting away with stuff against young public defenders, so MOM/W had to fight for everything for their client. Classy.

I do not understand why the networks must cover the prosecution’s song and dance when the news is George Zimmerman. Did everyone notice that not a single nice thing could be said about George Zimmerman and teenager Trayvon is still the only victim.

Corey is a piece of work! So we have to believe that this press conference was set up well in advance to declare total victory or cover their asses. Notice that the media – including Fox – is willingly covering this horse manure.

    Exiliado in reply to gad-fly. | July 13, 2013 at 10:52 pm

To me, TM was a POS.
I made my mind about it when the details about his behavior came out.
I don’t think I will change my opinion, neither will I ever apologize for it.

divemedic in reply to Exiliado. | July 13, 2013 at 11:06 pm

I think that once you hear that he was repeatedly suspended for breaking the law, he was doing drugs, carrying guns, selling drugs, stealing, etc. He was a criminal, he decided to commit an aggravated assault or possibly a murder, and discovered that his intended victim was armed.

    michelle in reply to gad-fly. | July 13, 2013 at 11:00 pm

So true! So many times on Fox I heard misinformation. Tonight Harris Faulkner said the 29 yo man who chased the teenager …… No mam, facts NOT in evidence.

MOM funny–trial hypnosis–every time I opened my mouth was a great moment (self deprecation). LOL

Ddon West, bless him , does not look well. Happy, but not as if he is feeling well.

O’Mara / West 2016!

State responsible for much of defense costs?!?

Wow.

gwest in reply to gwest. | July 13, 2013 at 10:50 pm

    I mean… YEAH! 😉

DuraMater in reply to gwest. | July 13, 2013 at 11:07 pm

Correct. This is written into our FL statutes. Also spelled out there is immunity from civil attacks with not guilty verdict.
These two items are what many anti-SYG hacks hate the most. and is the primary basis for the many calls for change in FL gun laws, self defense and SYG stautes.

I am beyond shocked that the good guys won!

It’s been a while . . . .

They should be so proud of themselves. The war was nasty, sneaky, brutal and they prevailed.

Kudos to the defense team.

Immunity in a civil hearing will be sought. Go team.

Sanctions hearing scheduled. Civil aspect–GZ has immunity, AND can seek the State to pay all/most defense expenses. I didn’t know the latter. Cool.

Will the rat bastard prosecutors still go forward with GZ’s wife’s baseless perjury charges?!

Go ahead and bring on the civil lawsuits! Yeah, try us, beeyotches!

The feeling of being proud to be an American is coming back.

rokiloki in reply to Rick. | July 13, 2013 at 10:53 pm

I’m always proud to be an American, I’m just not always proud of some Americans.

    McCoy2k in reply to Rick. | July 13, 2013 at 10:53 pm

No kidding. I wish I could have felt this way on election night 2012. I’ll have to settle for mid-term election night 2014.

Would the case have been different if GZ was black?

O’Mara – yeah, it would have been. He wouldn’t have been charged with a crime.

Going after the State for legal fees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Job Ladies of the Jury!

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2013 at 10:52 pm

Boatloads of liberals are now looking at Holder and Obama and realizing just how lame those ducks have become (regarding their attempt to affect this trial).

Talkin’ race, talkin’ smack! Keep going O’Mara! Bring it!

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2013 at 10:54 pm

Oddly, all of a sudden we have a troll-free environment.

MOM sounds like he’s bragging, but it’s not bragging if it’s true! It’s not bragging if you win.

Prosecutors wrote a check their asses couldn’t cash.

Odds on POTUS commenting? Maybe ‘ The Prosecution Acted Stupidly ‘ ?//

The jury stood up and did the right thing, even though they knew they were in the national spotlight where some would be displeased with them. Six honest women, well done! I hope the families of all those involved will find peace and acceptance.

OmegaPaladin | July 13, 2013 at 10:56 pm

THIS IS AWESOME!

Also, I hope Andrew or the Professor posts the defense interviews so I can watch them later.

not_surprised | July 13, 2013 at 10:56 pm

what can we do to help unseat corey? can we ask congressmen to launch an investagion into this circus? i am willing to write and call 😉

Oh, now we get to hear how totally dirty the State was in this travesty.

I like West too–he’s like the “bad cop” junkyard dog in this team. And yet, it’s only intellectually fierce. It’s not like he’s personally mean. He handled idiot CX’s with patience and yet didn’t let them off the hook easily. He was trotted out at the right time, and MOM was deployed when his demeanor was more suitable. Dynamic duo.

Mansizedtarget | July 13, 2013 at 10:57 pm

I can’t say faith in America is restored. But I can say the system worked this time. Thank God. . . . and as predicted. It was in fact a pretty simple case for this jury.

God I love Don West…

“As to Dr. Bao… [GREATEST EYEBROW RAISE/EYEROLL IN HISTORY!]”

Don West just gave World’s Greatest Eye-roll!!!

MOM is diplomatic and West is bristling…I think MOM has West on a short leash.

I’d buy West a triple-anything to hear him talk candidly!

Write a book, write a book!

Matt in FL in reply to Fabi. | July 13, 2013 at 11:01 pm

kentuckyliz in reply to Fabi. | July 13, 2013 at 11:08 pm

Yes, I like West’s putting it right out there.

Love how MOM just finished–the two systems that failed GZ. And to think he was just walking out and that chick reporter just had to ask her question. MOM’s media bashing part of the answer must have made her sink under the floor.

Aridog in reply to Fabi. | July 14, 2013 at 9:08 am

West responded when asked, by the press, to describe his relationship with the judge: [paraphrased]

I’d like to practice law for a couple more years.

Was the judge fair?

MOM: She runs her courtroom well and efficiently.

We accomplished what we had to

“I’d like to keep my bar license for a couple more years.”

Out-fucking-standing.

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2013 at 11:01 pm

Could all those posters who posted horrible comments about there being 6 women on the jury & how emotional , un objective & all the anti woman comments please do a rendition of

I Apologise . karaoking PJ Proby would do nicely.

Thank you .

Gandalf the Black in reply to BannedbytheGuardian. | July 13, 2013 at 11:14 pm

I take none of it back. They were ridiculous in their approach.

Mansizedtarget in reply to BannedbytheGuardian. | July 13, 2013 at 11:20 pm

IF you were picking a jury would you not care a fig if someone was black or white, man or woman, young or old, or any of the other raw demographic data that provides some predictive value of whether they’re likely to be pro-prosecution or pro-defense? They did the right thing, and Thank God for it. But I can’t say I’d fight to have that type of jury in this type of case if I were a defense lawyer trying to win a case.

Thankfully, this evidence was so overwhelming, I think almost any jury of any disposition would have done the right thing.

BannedbytheGuardian in reply to Mansizedtarget. | July 13, 2013 at 11:28 pm

As I see it the jury composition was settled on by fair means. After that we just have to sit back & let them do their job.

By saying you would not want this jury & that. It was really not much anyhow . It was nowhere ner Salam dunk & you know it. You just had to get a criticism of 6 women in .

      You are a shit.

      Jury 1 Mansizedtarget 0.

Hoe do you think the judge treated you, West?

West: I’d like to keep my bar license. What was the second question?

Protestor crowd looks small and dwindling. I see people leaving. Looks like more media than protesters.

No riots. sigh.

ProfessionalSpectator | July 13, 2013 at 11:03 pm

I can’t wait to hear about the sanctions and resulting civil lawsuits. The one against NBC is already filed. This verdict is just the beginning of what I view as “justice.”

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2013 at 11:03 pm

If there were a case in America the DoJ/Obamans would like to have influenced/controlled, this was it. And they got SQUAT out of it.

(So far – there is a possibility of federal civil rights violation charges against GZ).

I stand with Reverends Sharpton and Bacon in demanding justice for Trayvon Martin, Tawana Brawley, Crystal Mangum, and Henry Lamb.

Barak Obama….Trayvon Martin could be my son.
Really….A brutish 17yo thug.
Our president acted stupidly.

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2013 at 11:06 pm

I clicked over to the Daily Beast to check out the commenter reaction – there were only 30 posts as of ten minutes ago and half of them supported the verdict. DOOOOOOOM.

Cue La Bamba

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2013 at 11:07 pm

Looks like the glove didn’t fit, eh?

Wow! O’Mara takes the gloves off! Hit ’em again, hit ’em again! Harder, harder!

And now he bitch-laps the media narrative!!!!!!!!

MOM is telling the media how horrid they were. YEAY!!!!!!

Just saw fairly reliable blog report of a large group gathering in Brooklyn, of all places … police are responding.

How much is this reporter regretting asking that “one last question?” Good Lord he opened up on the media.

Awesome final answer by MOM during the presser.

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2013 at 11:08 pm

Geeeez… Huffington Post headline:

*BUT NOT INNOCENT

Aridog in reply to Henry Hawkins. | July 14, 2013 at 9:20 am

HuffPo obviously doesn’t grasp the concept of “Innocent until proven guilty.” If not found guilty, then you remain Innocent. You status doesn’t change from the original [innocent] upon acquittal.

eaglesdontflock | July 13, 2013 at 11:08 pm

Wow. Bravo Mark! Take down.

Mr. West, tell us about the tensions with the Judge
.
Well, I’d like to keep my bar license a couple more years—-no comment

Yea! We get to hear from Mumbles Crump!

One more time: have your English-Ebonics dishenary close-by!

Fabi, Don’t go there. I have nothing but contempt for Crumb. He is the worse of the worse. But I will judge him as an individual, not by his race. His character sucks.

And I am glad the jury did the right thing for George Zimmerman.

And Angela Corey and Judge Nelson, your character sucks too.

Fabi in reply to EBL. | July 14, 2013 at 12:27 am

I’ve been to Bermuda. Black people can speak beautiful English.

No soft bigotry of low expectations here…

I am not a racist, BUT, when it comes to CRUMP, PARKS and NASTYNAT I can make an exception.

My real thoughts get me into a bit of trouble because I cannot stop comparing the three of them to hairy mammals that look like humans except for the hair, I cannot help it because it is the way that the three of them have behaved in this case. All three could play a starring role in Jungle Jim, but not as Jungle Jim.

LOVE IT!!!!! MOM goes off on the media and their shameful role in ginning up objections to George.

“You took a story that was fed to you and turned him into a monster.

No one would argue with me the prosecution never had proof of second degree murder. And yet the press cheerleaded the other die.”

MOM’s final statement to the media about their responsibility was brilliant and withering.

Uncle Samuel | July 13, 2013 at 11:09 pm

That last from O’Mara:
“Two systems failed George Zimmerman, the media and the justice system…”

Thank God for that articulate statement from O’Mara describing the travesty that wrongfully tormented George Zimmerman for 16 months.

Thanks be to God.

It needed to be said and he said it eloquently, fearlessly and bluntly. All the more brilliant since he’d been so courteous toward and solicitous of the media throughout the case. Of course, the media will completely ignore it. You’ll never catch Brian Williams (or any of the others who’ve stoked the false narrative) doing any navel-gazing. Not on your life. Sharpton’s already tripled down – what an absolute scumbag.

Of course, Crump will get more media out of his shameless Emmit Till garbage than O’Mara will for his spot-on assessment.

Idiot bubblehead on MSLSD says the prosecutors were subdued during their press conference! Really? Really?

the other guy.

First time in weeks I’e heard N Grace speak in close-to-normal volume.

Rev. Al, back to throwing gasoline, just clarified that the Martin family has already filed a civil suit against Zimmerman. Disgraceful.

Uncle Samuel in reply to Mary Sue. | July 13, 2013 at 11:14 pm

SHAMELESS – the Zimmermans are the ones who were damaged and persecuted by Crump/Martin/Julison false narrative – lies, threats, torment for over a year.

The Martins and Crump/Parks and Sharpton should shut their ugly, ugly, ugly mouths and their greedy, greedy, greedy hands.

Granny in reply to Mary Sue. | July 13, 2013 at 11:20 pm

An earlier commenter mentioned that a Not Guilty verdict in Florida also meant that you couldn’t be sued in Civil Court, so we’ll see how that goes . .

Midwest Rhino in reply to Mary Sue. | July 13, 2013 at 11:23 pm

GZ will be immune, but Crump and his gangsters will NOT be, nor NBC, New Black Panthers that offered bounty, etc.

This is the day the waters of racism began to recede … 🙂

If they have filed a civil lawsuit then discovery will be fun.

I would expect that the phone contents will make for juicy information, especially the conversations with “fruit” about the purchase of a gun.

Nope. Sharpton is full of it….

I don’t know if you heard the announcement on the live feed, but the jurors will NOT be speaking to the press this evening.

Crump and Parks will be speaking shortly, but will not be taking questions.

The down side of this verdict is that the judge’s horrible rulings will stand unchallenged. No appeals court will get to review them and strike them down. While they’re not binding precedent, of course, they can be used as persuasive precedent, and that would be a bad thing. Plus her career continues without the black mark an appeals court would have put on it. The prosecutors too; they go on without any of their shenanigans being on the record. Their loss won’t affect their careers; everyone loses cases now and then, and this was an impossible case to win, so people won’t hold it against them, whereas an appeals court opinion making clear how unethical they’ve been would be difficult to get over.

Still, against that we have to consider that had the jury bowed to the pressure and convicted, Nelson would have denied him bail while he was appealing the verdict, and before the case could get to the appeals courts he’d have been shanked in prison.

Carol Herman in reply to Milhouse. | July 14, 2013 at 12:52 am

Hasn’t Don West already filed complains against nelson?
Maybe, as many as 5 or 6?
West & O’Mara also said they’re still representing Zimmerman, and they expect to file Civil litigation, ahead?

Narniaman in reply to Milhouse. | July 14, 2013 at 1:01 am

I’m going to take a different perspective on this. First, I’m quite confident that Nelson is very happy that the jury brought back an acquittal — for the simple reason that she is not going to get spanked in public by an appeals court for a number of her rulings.

Second — I’m also quite confident that she is happy that there is no one who could claim she gave the slightest bit of preference in anything to the defense. What could they accuse her of. . . .not allowing a Murder III charge to be added at the last minute?

And third — if she thinks that Zimmerman is indeed not guilty — she has the best of all possible worlds!!

Uncle Samuel | July 13, 2013 at 11:10 pm

I refuse to listen to Crump. Never.

Two systems failed him. The justice system he wanted to be a part of, and you guys.

Sharpton said ‘Civil rights leaders will have a conference call tonight!’

Bite me, Al! Bite me!

(Oh, and learn English! Enunciate!)

Uncle Samuel in reply to Fabi. | July 13, 2013 at 11:24 pm

    Notice to Al:

We are all sick of your race/victim game. Go home and shut up.

    Don’t. Start. Anything.

It would not be wise. Crackers have been buying guns and ammo more than ever before since Obama’s constant attack on the 2nd Amendment.

We aren’t going to let Obama’s sons burn our businesses, homes, steal TVs, tennis shoes, liguor, etc.

You can’t intimidate us with threats. And you can’t defeat us with lies.

As Mrs. Gladys Zimmerman said, “We know who you are.”

We know what you are. We know what you are trying to do.

We won’t stand for your corruption, political and racist manipulations.

We are Americans. We believe in law and order and color blind America, not entitlements, not special rights.

    Games up Al.

Crump & Parks coming on now. Corey etal still arguing falsehoods in public statements. Sure Crump will also try to fan flames.

I can’t wait to hear from George but I’m getting too drunk to keep blogging so I’ll sign off for now.

VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea! We get Parks, too! (At least he can speak well…)

ALERT: A price increase of ~$10 is imminent for “The Law of Self Defense, 2nd Edition” on lawofselfdefense.com due to Amazon having raised their price to $45 yesterday

Just days after Apple was declared to be colluding to raise prices, Amazom raises prices .. hmm ?

Racist Al Sharpton is saying he’ll be calling DOJ tomorrow to press for cilvil rights violations. Were is any evidence that there were racial overtones in GZ’s actions. He didn’t say coon and he has African blood in him.Can you be a black and be racist against same blacks? I think thats impossible.

O’Mara just SCREWED the press and the State with a OCEAN LINER-sized screw.

And he was EXACTLY right.

Dr Stiffy in reply to Ragspierre. | July 13, 2013 at 11:41 pm

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2013 at 11:14 pm

REJOICE WE MUST

Crumb is seeing his cash machine run out of greenbacks.

MSNBC is worse than I remember. Al Sharpton saying the family will get Zimmerman in civil court and the federal courts will now get him.

They also called the prosecutions remarks restrained and the defenses insulting. I thought I would enjoy a little of their coverage. I was wrong. I hate them.

Uncle Samuel in reply to Dr Stiffy. | July 13, 2013 at 11:31 pm

Daiwa in reply to Dr Stiffy. | July 14, 2013 at 12:09 am

If ever any group deserved to be insulted, it’s the media crowd that pushed the false racist narrative, chief among them Sharpy. Sharpy and truth have never met, so of course he wouldn’t recognize it.

I’m not a gun owner but am disgusted by Angela Corey, Dela Rionda & Guy. DeLaRionda & Guy distorted the truth & tried to inject race into the trial in a way that should get them sanctioned by the bar.

Wow, MOM really chastised the media.

Absolutely necessary.

Great metaphor comparing GZ to a patient on which a mad scientist is doing surgery without anesthesia.

Is that a silver fly on that guys lapel

Trayvon was no more a martyr than the Islamic suicide bombers are martyrs.

Trayvon was no angel, no saint.

He was a gangsta wannabe, who was taking drugs and turning violent, larcenous and felonious, whose parents had let him down – especially his father.

In one week, Trayvon went from drugs, to burglary to felony assault to attempted murder.

The way he was going, he would have spent most of his life in prison.

They really should try to get some self awareness, humility and acknowledge the truth.

I’m sorry, I must object to this misuse of MLK, Till, and Evars. It is a desecration of them to add TM to that list.

Sounds like the content of his character was on full display from 7:09-7:16 on 2/26/12 and the judgment of the content of his character was delivered by a hollow tip.

Harsh but true. He should have stopped the beatdown.

ProfessionalSpectator | July 13, 2013 at 11:18 pm

Ben Crump: Proof that affirmative action is implemented in law schools too.

The NAACP said late Saturday that it was “outraged and heartbroken” over the not-guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial, vowing to pursue “civil rights charges” with the Department of Justice.

So there’s that-

Crump actually just compared Trayvon to Medgar Evers.
#Ohnohedidn’t

No he did not just compare this guy to Medger Evans and Emitt Till………..Oy they are something

Now there are rumblings of federal civil rights charges.

I just read the story from LIZETTE ALVAREZ of the New York Times. Almost every sentence in that story contradicts every sentence at LegalInsurrection. After all this time, someone is still denying the facts.

Media seems strangely lost, searching for something to break out. There’s calm? Oh noooooo, we need to stir it up! Ratings going into toilet tomorrow!

Maybe this could be the last case where our president weighs in with his opinion on a state legal question? Too much to ask? Does he realize he has the biggest microphone on the planet and he needs to be careful what he says? Even though he has a need to blather on about his opinions, American citizens’ lives are at stake.

Who was the child they keep talking about?

for security reasons SF and TM are in a safe place WTF!!! yeah, they have a lot to fear

The civil rights leaders in this country are nothing but money grubbing hucksters. They are nothing like MLK Jr. Disgusting. Now TM’s family wants privacy when you couldn’t turn on news without seeing them. I hate to see someone lose a child but they went for the money instead of really learning what happened. They put in with The Scheme Team not for justice but for the money.

Uncle Samuel in reply to styro1. | July 13, 2013 at 11:45 pm

NO – THEY WOULD NOT ADMIT WHAT HAD HAPPENED.

They would not admit the truth about Trayvon.

If my child had assaulted someone and made them have to shoot him, I would have apologized to that person.

[…] jury in the Zimmerman case reached a not guilty verdict this evening.  Legal Insurrection is following the reactions online as well as from demonstrators […]

George ought to seek injunction early Monday morning to freeze Trayvon’s parents assets(money from HOA) and sue for their minor child attacking him and everything that’s happened to him since. Why aren’t they responsible for their “little kid”

Eric Holder had better just hold it.

Anyone watching Geraldo? What the hell is on that women’s head behind him? Is that an ass hat?

OK, I’m out. I might not be here as actively now. Gotta get back to the rest of my life. You know, I didn’t pay attention to this case or situation at all until July 1, and I’m glad–it made me think like a juror.
