Zimmerman Verdict Reached: NOT GUILTY

Zimmerman Verdict Reached: NOT GUILTY

Prof. Jacobson: “Angela Corey should resign”

A verdict has been returned in Florida v. Zimmerman:

NOT GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS

The State prosecutors, including the until recently rarely-seen Angela Corey, are currently providing interviews to the press, essentially re-arguing their catastrophically failed courtroom arguments. From this commentator’s perspective, they are simply in complete denial and/or in full-blown CYA mode, no matter how often they say they respect the decision of the jury.

It is also remarkable how frequently both Angela Corey and Bernie de la Rionda are explicitly re-affirming their support of the Second Amendment and self-defense–perhaps they sense the “seething rage, ill-will, spite, and hatred” they may well have engendered among the community of law-abiding gun-owners and CWL owners in Florida.

Reactions from around the web can be found at this post: includes press conference videos of key people connected to the trial, photos of demonstrators outside the Florida courthouse, tweets/photos/videos related to current and scheduled “Justice for Trayvon” marches, verdict reactions from Twitter and embedded feeds for key Twitter hashtags. It will continue to be updated.

The Prof. will have his post in the morning as he’s stuck at O’Hare Airport now, but quickly adds:

The just verdict was reached. As I have said repeatedly, this was a case that never should have been brought. It’s not too early to demand an inquiry into the prosecution of this case. Angela Corey should resign.

Our justice system took a major hit b/c of the assholes preening for the cameras right now! TrayMom handled it with class? She trademarked her sons name to make a buck and went on trashcan tour so suckers could fill it with money!

    Observer in reply to styro1. | July 13, 2013 at 10:32 pm

And it was very classy of her and her ex-husband to get up on the witness stand and perjure themselves, wasn’t it? Yes, nothing says “class” like trying to railroad an innocent man.

Corey: how dare you wwear a cruficix. You would lead the charge, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” You make Jesus cry.

What a sad sick presser. Angela at the helm surrounded by her three deflated henchmen.

I want to hear from O’Mara, West and Zim.

DailyBeasts questioning a BEAST

George needs an agent who commands big bucks for any interviews George does. FOX claims they don’t pay for interviews so they will lose out on those exclusives which is a shame since they were the only ones attempting to show the truth of this case.

Had Zimmerman been convicted, we would hear calls from the Left to accept the outcome of the justice system. Will those who would have made such calls now accept this outcome?

That’s a rhetorical question that answers itself.

Gandalf the Black | July 13, 2013 at 10:24 pm

Imagine the relief of the holdout juror when she finds out about what a thug TM was.

JaimeInTexas | July 13, 2013 at 10:24 pm

Corey is referring to Trayvon, the jury’s determined attacker, as the victim. aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgh!

I have to say a big thank you to Prof Jacobson and Mr. Branca for their coverage on this site. I could not have kept a semblance of sanity if I hadn’t been able to come here. Everyone, from the authors to commenters has given me clarification when I didn’t understand something. Thank you all so much. And Mr. Branca, I’m going to wait patiently for your Kindle version. The hubby and I intend to take a CC class in the near future and it’ll be a good compliment to the course. Cheers!

eaglesdontflock | July 13, 2013 at 10:24 pm

Pray for George and his family. The stuff on Twitter is appalling.

Thank God !

Did they actually tell the Martins not to come to the courthouse? I am really surprised they did not want to be there…. they sat through every moment of the trial.

Thank you Mr. (paisano) Branca and of course, Professor Jacobson.

Most Excellent coverage of this trial..

I bet Chris Matthews thinks Corey is hot.

[…] via Zimmerman Verdict | Live video | Protests Reactions. […]

As it should be. People have an unalienable right to Life. Martin did not have a right to assault Zimmerman. If Zimmerman had been unarmed, Martin would today be accused of attempted murder or worse. It wouldn’t be the first time that inflicted head trauma resulted in an individual’s death.

This woman is despicable.

Justice prevailed, as they used to say.

Thanks to the authors (and commentors) for making this trial understandable.

My faith in the jury system has been sustained. Integrity overcame political pressure.

Media whore: the country believed you Corey were going to prove that the screaming voice on the tape was TM…

The country? Don’t speak for me.

Uncle Samuel in reply to kentuckyliz. | July 13, 2013 at 10:31 pm

The word Chutzpah comes to mind regarding Angela Corey.

It has such appropriate synonyms and sounds.

Almost like expectorating in her direction.

Corley is a gas bag. We did a great job, why didn’t the jury ignore the lack of facts, but go with the emotion. After all Travon was a boy a number of years ago and George was Bad, Bad, Bad. He should be punished for defending himself.

I think the Judge is happy, she repeatedly sided with the prosecution to be PC, but her decisions will not be reviewed on appeal.

It is so good to see the Not Guilty verdict.

Thank God!

Corey is a mendacious witch. I’ve changed my mind from an earlier statement…I suppose the ydo know what the truth is since they went out of their way to hide so much of it. Trayvon was a victim though…victim of clueless, self-absorbed ‘parents’, a victim of a school system that focuses on sweeping behavior problems under the rug thereby allowing them to get worse, and a victim of his own poor decision-making abilities.

Thank God truth triumphed over deceit. And may God keep George and his family safe.

But I fear George Zimmerman is the new Edward Snowden.

Aridog in reply to MrE. | July 13, 2013 at 10:32 pm

Just an idea, but about an area I am familiar with intimately. Zimmerman should move to Montana if he can. A lot of no nonsense folks out there and self defense is not considered a character flaw.

Some idiot asked if the Stand Your Ground was a factor. Duh did you watch trial you stupid ass reporter!

This Corey woman is crazy

She’s trying to re-argue the case to the media. Despicable.

Corey need to STFU, she’s stirring the pot BIG TIME!

“Beyond a reasonable doubt” means just what it says.

There were plenty of factual issues in doubt at the trial, so the jury had to find as they did.

Thank you professor foe trying to explain the law to the lawless.

I still want 40 seconds with BDLR and if this hag don’t shut the F up I’m gonna need 20 secs with her!

I don’t understand how it is that Corey is retrying this case in the media now that the case is over. There seems like there ought to be something to stop that. Either legally, or just simple decorum. You lost, get over it.

MacsenMcBain | July 13, 2013 at 10:30 pm

Woohoo! Thank goodness for common sense.

WTF is Corey STILL on????????????????

WTF??????????????????????

Someone grab the hook!

Wow, who did AC’ s makeup? Boy George?

Just nine words:
My faith in the justice system has been restored.

Angela Corey is awful. She is one Republican that can not be returned to office – yes I know there are others – but she is disgusting.

She just said GZ wasn’t being robbed or raped–no forcible felony.

Excuse me, aggravated assault is a felony!

Nothing difficult about it at all.

If and only if they 1. actually attempted to find him. 2. And did.

WHY didn’t you bring it to the Grand Jury that had been just empaneled for this case instead of just charging 2nd degree murder?

Bernie’s pissed.

Heh.

Oh, thank heavens. Not only did I not want to see an innocent man go to jail, I really didn’t want to have to listen to what lousy jurors women make. Way to go, ladies!

BDLR just can’t let go.

Let the spin begin.

OMG, Bernie goes Ballistic.

Corey: “This case has never been about race.”

BULLSH*T!

YancyDerringer | July 13, 2013 at 10:33 pm

Corey is starting to re-try the case at the press conference. Now BDLR. Still losing with arguments having nothing to do with the question of self-defense. Ah… here come the lies now…

Now THIS is fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BDLR and Corey still don’t believe they lost.

They’re desperately spinning the trial and why they should have won.

fothermucking sore losers.

Now Corey is saying GZ racially profiled TM.

WTF. The FBI and DOJ say racial profiling is a Color of Law offense that only law enforcement can commit.

Lying hag. Lying lying sulphurous damned hag.

Uncle Samuel in reply to kentuckyliz. | July 13, 2013 at 10:42 pm

Purposeful incendiary comments – that’s what they are doing at the behest of Holder and the communist race mongers.

They WANT to see riots and destruction.

    I hope it doesn’t happen.

BDLR is still trying to stir racial hatred.

“Corey says that she saw as key that the screams stopped after the shot.” — And that couldn’t possibly be explained by GZ being relieved of a vicious pounding?

that means Corey is the idiot because the screams stopped when the person receiving the pounding was no longer in danger.

Narniaman in reply to Radegunda. | July 14, 2013 at 12:37 am

Wow. .. .she should have had her minions present that during the trial. . . she needs to change her party affiliation pronto!!

On the other hand. . . .I wonder if the, uh, demonstrators might come to the conclusion that Corey personally had the prosecutors lay down on what should normally have been an easy Murder II case?

BDLR: “This is only the second murder case I’ve lost.”

First, I’m stunned. Seriously.

Second, tiny violins.

Best. Comment. Ever. on Ace’s thread:

“Al Sharpton throwing gasoline right now on MSNBC.”

Corey keeps making it worse. Someone pull the plug.

BDLR seems sincere in his outrage over the verdict.
Could this guy actually believe in the prosecution’s case???

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLOL BDLR! WHAT A EFF’ing SORE LOSER

Angela Corey declares that Zimmerman’s broken, bloody nose and cement-bashed head do not constitute “great bodily injury.” What does this standard mean for female domestic violence victims who are beat in the face by men and left bloody and swollen AND who choose to defend themselves?

    Great comment!

A potential victim in the situation of a home intruder charging you and threatening to kill or rape you in your home is similar. If you fear for your life as an aggressor is charging you, shouldn’t you have the right to shoot the intruder in self defense even though you don’t have any physical injuries yet? Hate to think that we now have to fear being believed that it would be self defense when reacting in this situation and whether these doubts will cause hesitation such that you will now become a victim even though you had a weapon you could have used to defend yourself.

should be able to shoot to stop thedoesn’t even have to have any injuries if they are afraid of

Corey refers to a letter they released explaining why the IT guy was fired.

I thought personnel matters were confidential. Won’t he be able to sue?

And if there was prosecutorial misconduct, he should sue the pants off these people for their punishment of a whistleblower and trying to defame him through the media.

She had no business exposing a personnel matter like that.

I’m awaiting called for the DOJ to indict him for civil rights violations.

Wow, BDLR is just NOT going to let this go.

What a putz.

ZIMMERMAN VERDICT REACHED: Not Guilty. This is a prosecution that never should have been brought — as, indeed, the responsible authorities had already concluded before the case was turned into a political circus. But count on Obama, Sharpton, et al., to use this to promote racial division.

http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/172353/

Big APPLAUSE now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God forbid, if someone harms Zimmerman over this case, I bet Corey and BDLR won’t give half the effort to prosecute.

Now the defense. O’Mara and company.

I admire the jury. In the national spotlight they have come to the correct verdict, although I’m sure they know a lot of people will be unhappy with them. I hope the Zimmerman family can get their lives back as private citizens. I hope the Martins will find some peace and acceptance. Losing a son, no matter the reason, must be painful. Time to move on and not let race warriors divide us.

Ah, defense team.

Time to bring the video feed to full screen 🙂

Defense team presser. I am all crushy crusherson on MOM.

Oh good here come the guys in the white hats for a presser.

Oh my God! Corey looks like an old whore! Way over dressed and made up. She is smiling in a completely inappropriate way at inappropriate times. I have never seen prosecutors make so many statements after the jury has rendered a verdict which are contrary to the facts and the verdict! She is disgusting!

theduchessofkitty in reply to rangerjagc. | July 13, 2013 at 10:41 pm

“Oh my God! Corey looks like an old whore!”

I actually thought she looked like someone in very bad drag!

frangelica in reply to rangerjagc. | July 14, 2013 at 12:33 am

This is the first time I have seen who Corey was though I have heard her name mentioned in this case a lot.

She appeared completely inappropriate smiling so much at the press conference – almost like she was enjoying the spotlight despite causing George Zimmmerman to be wrongfully indicted in this case and forced to go through hell with this hateful and stressful trial. Plus it also seems disrespectful to Trayvon’s family who is suffering the loss of their son.

Aridog in reply to frangelica. | July 14, 2013 at 8:51 am

Corey IS enjoying herself. Think about it….she stirred the pot, at Governor Scott’s request and direction, but she didn’t actually *perform* on the prosecution team…so she’s not besmirched by failure. Elections come up fast you know…I fully expect her to soon hold a “grip & grin” session with Martin’s family.

I wonder just how much Vaseline they smear on the camera lenses when Nancy Grace is on screen? Appears to be most of a jar.

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2013 at 10:40 pm

Not to toss a wet blanket on this but……

HEY RAGS (or other attorney)… How would you measure the chances that the DoJ moves forward with a federal civil rights violation case against GZ? Is that at all a real possibility?

That Corey woman is outright evil personified.

Oh, I’m so HAPPY!!!

We had to go to town for a minute, then we stopped and got an ice cream to eat in the car. Well, I said, honey, turn on the radio, and then we heard it. Wow, so thankful!

These 2 men are great americans who took on a challenging case pro-bono

I want to see riots. I want America to see uncivilized behavior again. People might actually wake up – in terms of the culture, in terms of civilized behavior, in terms of our politics. We might actually start electing law and order (i.e. Rule of Law) politicians again.

O’Mara speaks:

Thanks Sheriff’s office and Sanford PD, the integrity and dedication you brought to this complex case allowed a rational and peaceful unfolding.

Express gratitude for how you handled my team in such a professional way.

Your department made my job much easier.

O’Mara always a class act. Thinks first about the other people not himself.

He deserves this outstanding victory.

rokiloki in reply to wyntre. | July 13, 2013 at 10:49 pm

When he said that, I realized, at least in Sanford, the case pitted law & order against politics.

Law and order won, but politics will twist it into their victory.

kittycat in reply to wyntre. | July 13, 2013 at 10:50 pm

O’Mara deserves an award as most outstanding attorney in America and one with the most compassion.

Mansizedtarget in reply to kittycat. | July 13, 2013 at 11:00 pm

Amen to all that. I do think the Sanford PD was remarkably professional. The people of Sanford are well served by that department. Every single person they called–and the FDLE forensics person too–were all excellent. Bao should probably be fired, but that’s a separate issue.

“The prosecution of George Zimmerman was disgraceful”.

YEEEESSSSSS.

Now I’m seeing news coverage saying that experienced legal experts agreed that the prosecution had a weak case. Talk about being in denial!

MOM just told West to go easy!

West: the prosecution of GZ was DISGRACEFUL.

Give ’em hell Westie!!!

Go West!!!!!
“The prosecution of George Zimmerman was disgraceful!!!!!”

Yes, love it!

God I love Don West. I want to buy that guy a case of whatever he drinks.

Henry Hawkins | July 13, 2013 at 10:43 pm

I clicked over to MSNBC within two minutes and the first two opinions I heard were:

The evidence for M2 was there, but the prosecution botched the case, and….

It was the jury’s fault because it was 5 white/1 Hispanic and wasn’t racially balanced. (Does that alter the evidence?)

Yeah, Sharpton called it an ‘atrocity’.

    And that makes me happy.

el polacko in reply to Henry Hawkins. | July 13, 2013 at 11:16 pm

CNN is calling the jury “five white women and one of indeterminate race”.

Narniaman in reply to Henry Hawkins. | July 14, 2013 at 12:44 am

Yeah, that’s the case. . . .Corey and the prosecutors had a very easily winnable Murder II case, and they purposely laid down on the job to let a White Hispanic get away with murder!!!

Corey and her minions need to be held accountable. . . . .perhaps demonstrators at their residences would help them understand that they screwed up. . . . .

Knock, knock!

West came here to chew bubblegum and kick butt.

And he’s all out of bubblegum.

West: gratified by the jury’s decision. But it saddens me it took us going under these circumstances to get justice.

I am very happy for George Zimmerman.

There’s the answer about Don West’s joke! It was a disconnect maneuver for the jury. I wondered if he’d ever tell.

God bless Mr. O’Mara and Mr. West!!! X 1000

BRAVO WEST!

Ewww… I’d like to buy Mr. West a scotch or ten. And a REALLY good cigar…!!!

HEY RAGS (or other attorney)… How would you measure the chances that the DoJ moves forward with a federal civil rights violation case against GZ? Is that at all a real possibility?

Bernice in reply to Henry Hawkins. | July 13, 2013 at 11:00 pm

I believe that the FBI, at Holder’s request, conducted their investigation and concluded there was no basis for a civil right action.

mariner in reply to Bernice. | July 13, 2013 at 11:12 pm

        So what?

The Sanford Police Dept. conducted an investigation and concluded there was no reason to arrest Zimmerman.

The DOJ had won the NBP voter intimidation case, then Holder intervened and made it go away.

Ragspierre in reply to Henry Hawkins. | July 13, 2013 at 11:10 pm

      None. Zip. Nada.

West declines to talk about how the trial for him–this is about GZ.

MOM mentions the trauma and stress GZ has been through for 16 months. Endorphin release, emotional release.

theduchessofkitty | July 13, 2013 at 10:45 pm

The attorneys were threatened!?!?!?!?!?!

Beyond the pale.

We proved George Zimmerman was not guilty.

George had a release, an endorphin release, I think he’s going to be great. I hope everyone respects the jury’s decision and we will take it day by day.

MOM is way too generous to that pack of rats from the prosecution.

JaimeInTexas | July 13, 2013 at 10:47 pm

yes, indeed. that it got to trial was an injustice, carried out by cowards afraid of racial politics, and the outcome is a correction. but, the injustice still demands its truth to proclaimed to the living.

“David and Goliath”.

Indeed. Indeed.

O’Mara and West rock! Bless them both!!!!!

They were so far ahead of the loser special prosecutors it wasn’t even funny.

And now O’Mara slams the SP! Wow – never thought I’d hear that! Sweet! David and Goliath!

The only logical conclusion given the evidence but surprising given the political interference. The prosecution’s presentation bordered on the laughable throughout while the defense was solid.

Hopefully, this will be the end of this matter and I wish Mr. Zimmerman good luck with the rest of his life.

I would like to add that this jury had the courage to follow the law which is something that I cannot say for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court at about this time a year ago…
