Lessons of #Ferguson: Don’t Rob Convenience Store, Fight With and Try to Take Cop’s Gun

Rich Lowry of National Review leaves Andrea Mitchell babbling “Whoa, Whoa”

http://youtu.be/YEGxAcM0JcM

Rich Lowry, Editor of National Review, was on Meet the Press this morning, discussing Ferguson.

Here’s what I tweeted out at the time:

Here’s the video of what was playing just before I sent that tweet, via NRO:

National Review editor Rich Lowry riled up a panel of establishment media talkers Sunday by advising Americans to obey the law and exercise caution with police.

“If you look at the most credible evidence [of Michael Brown’s death at the hands of a Ferguson, Mo., police officer], the lessons are really basic,” Lowry said during an appearance on Meet the Press. “Don’t rob a convenience store. Don’t fight with a policeman when he stops you and try to take his gun. And when he yells at you to stop, just stop.”

Those comments elicited gasp from a panel that included the Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson and MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. Mitchell exclaimed “Whoa, whoa” during Lowry’s comments, while Robinson said his recitation of the known facts in the case was an attempt to “relitigate” Brown’s death.

Here’s Mitchell’s reaction in slow-motion:

So Mitchell would rather protect a stupid kid who behaved like a thug from the consequences of his actions while giving the black on black crime a pass? Why care more about a reckless thug than all the other deaths of young blacks? Guess she feels more remorse because a white cop did the shooting. Seems that her white quilt is showing.

Of COURSE Andrea Mitchell would rather try to protect the reputation of a thug who committed a felony then assaulted a police officer and attempted to take his service weapon than have anything to do with any innocent Black victims who were shot in Chicago on any given Friday.

The “RAGE” is how our Marxist betters (aka self-proclaimed “Progressives”) maintain their power. If the people actually knew the truth, there would be a general revolt against all things of the Democrat Party, which has kept the the Black Populace in servitude since the end of the Civil Rights movement by promising them quotas, protection and freedom to live whatever lifestyle they desire regardless of the effect on The Civil Society.

Slowly, those of us in the trenches HAVE been making inroads. The problem is that you have to show people that while they usually ARE getting something for free (to them), that the free stuff comes with a hidden cost which is damaging to the soul, rather than the pocketbook.

As kiddies, we ALLLLL love the free goodies that Santa leaves us under the tree. We never see the sacrifice, anxiety, and the work our parents put out to provide those “free” goodies.

We only understand all that when we become fully adult, and learn to see things via a much more holistic prism.

But one of the prime goals of the Collective is to prevent that, and to permanently infantilize people who SHOULD be citizens.

For THAT alone, they are my blood enemies.

It’s the racism of lower expectations.

People like Andrea Mitchell believe that Blacks and Hispanics are indeed inferior people.
They do not expect us to rise up to higher standards of civility and education.

But Andrea and others like her, being Perfect Superior Entities, they are pious and condescending. They are willing to give us an extra chance by lowering the bar for us.
    So we have Affirmative Action.
And we have lower academic standards.
And we have lower behavior standards.
    And lower legal standards.

Don’t judge that poor soul robbing a convenience store. He does not know better. Give him a chance to walk free to do it again.
You don’t want your face to be mauled? Stay in your car!! Do not expect young minority males to keep their hands to themselves. It’s not their fault! They don’t know better.

What do these people expect in the long term?
Are they stupid enough to think that’s going to help our children?
    No they’re not.
They just think we don’t know better.

They just think we are inferior.

Precisely. And, that “bigotry of low expectations” (as memorably phrased by Rod Paige, Secretary of Education under G.W. Bush) and, the paternalistic racism that it necessarily encompasses, undergirds how liberals view blacks in any context.

This attitude also was prominently on display in last week’s incident in which a Georgetown University student penned an article after he was mugged at gunpoint in D.C., essentially condoning his attackers’ actions and pointing the finger of blame at himself for being a beneficiary of “white privilege.”

This naive student’s attitude so perfectly encapsulates two of the singular traits that are deeply engrained in the liberal ethos: A) the sanctimonious assertion of self-perceived moral superiority; and, B) a distinctive attitude of paternalistic racism with respect to blacks in America that masquerades as magnanimity and benevolence. That is to say, this student fancies himself as possessing some sort of deep empathy and understanding with respect to the plight of blacks in the U.S., but, what he is tacitly articulating is a paternalistic racism that asserts that blacks are too feeble-minded, too infantilized in their attitudes and in their intellects to possess any notion of individual responsibility and control over their lives, their conduct and their personal choices.

In so many words, this student is asserting, “These poor savages are so uncivilized, they are incapable of comporting their behavior in accordance with legal and societal norms.” Under this logic, blacks cannot be held accountable for criminal conduct, because such actions allegedly stem from a host of external factors and societal ills, as opposed to being freely-made, wilful decisions. This is the cornerstone of the “victim” narrative that drives Leftist racial “preference” policies in school admissions and job hiring and insidious and self-destructive racial identity politics.

Radegunda in reply to guyjones. | December 1, 2014 at 5:06 pm

It’s parallel to the attitude that liberal Westerners take toward Muslim mayhem: “We must have done something to upset them. We need to reach out and heal their hurt feelings and stroke their bruised egos so they’ll be able to like us (or at least accept our existence).”
        packaged as humility

It’s arrogance packaged as humility. The current pope is showing a pattern of self-righteousness dressed up as humility in his approach to Islam.

      Well put, sir!

It’s obvious why Robinson doesn’t want to “relitigate” the case; it’s because he knows he’d lose.

The witnesses whose testimony conflicted with Wilson’s (and the other black eyewitnesses whose testimony corroborated Wilson’s) were proven liars like Darian Johnson, the guy with Michael Brown when he robbed the convenience store. Johnson’s story was a self-serving pack of lies from start to finish; he is the one who claimed Wilson shot Brown in the back (even though the autopsies proved he did not). Johnson is also the one who claimed Brown had stopped and surrendered, even though the blood trail proved Brown was moving back towards Wilson. And Wilson’s story about what happened in the car was corroborated by the bruises on Wilson’s face, Brown’s fingerprints all over Wilson’s gun, and Brown’s blood in Wilson’s car.

When Robinson says “let’s not relitigate the case,” what he really means is let’s not talk about the actual proven facts (like the videotape of Brown and Johnson robbing the convenience store), because those pesky facts flatly contradict the narrative that the left is trying to sell — of the innocent “gentle giant” black kid shot in the back while trying to surrender to an evil, racist white cop.

To the Progressives, Michael Brown is a tool, to be picked up, used until broken, and then discarded as a method to maintain their power (by keeping the Black communities under the thumb of the Democrat party).

They do this by promising “Justice” without ever defining what “Justice” is. That way they can never be held accountable for failing to deliver. Justice right now means holding some marches and maybe getting a reform or two through the Ferguson police department on “community policing” (which WILL fail to address any valid concern that the Black Community might actually have).

But, by the time the Black Community realizes it (if ever), there will be a “new shiny object” to draw their attention. That’s why the race-hustlers are so good at knowing exactly when to jump ship. They’re never around when all the promises fail to materialize.

Ragspierre in reply to Chuck Skinner. | November 30, 2014 at 8:11 pm

Oh, but it is NOT limited to the useful minority tool!

Remember how they sucked poor Sindy Sheehan dry, and then discarded the husk like a Shelob victim. She was the soul of “absolute moral authority” while she had some juices in her.

When that use ran out, she was a “dead soldier”. (Pun very much intended.)

The real lesson is that if you are armed and assaulted by a Black person, throw your gun as far from you as you can, and let him do what he wants. You may survive, while if you shoot him, your life will certainly be ruined. I wish to God I did not have to write this.

The madness started by the Kerner commission has borne its final fruit.

Oh, and the second amendment has been effectively repealed.

Eugene, honny, it isn’t a matter of “re-litigating”.

It’s just a matter of stepping up to reality or not. And we all know which side you want to prevail.

Delusion.

That was hee haw funny. Usually (not always), someone who doesn’t want to rehash something doesn’t want to lose twice.

MSNBC and NBC are two names for the same organization.

I swear to God, some days it seems that we have a national epidemic of psychotic breaks.

One problem is, even astute statements get short shrift, talked over on the networks.

The physical evidence backed up testimony supporting Wilson, and Wilson himself. But that fast comment (conservatives have to talk fast or get interrupted) is lost in the flurry of “they want policing done with the community not TO the community” … “they don’t want a majority white police force in a majority black community” … blah blah.

Mayor “Chocolate City” Nagin is not in prison because whites are racist. But he and Marion Barry get elected BECAUSE of their race, and racist promises. Blaming inner city problems on white racism avoids solving the real problems, but gives a rallying cry to the black racists like Sharpton or Rev. Wright.

That claim that whites in the city think we still have a race problem, us rural hicks don’t … how many of those (polled?) think the “race problem” is race industry instigators like Sharpton, as opposed to white racists not giving opportunity to blacks? Or the problem is gangs stick together based on race, and witnesses are threatened if they “snitch”.

We have a black gangster mentality problem, and making Trayvon and Brown martyrs does not help.

“they don’t want a majority white police force in a majority black community”

That one stuck with me, too.

Do they ever wonder why they don’t have more black police officers? I don’t have an answer to that question – only hypotheses – but do they even wonder?

One of my hypotheses is this: Consider that black men as a demographic are charged and jailed for crimes at a rate an order of magnitude higher than white men. Now consider that one of the qualifications to be a police officer is a clean criminal background. (I admit this wouldn’t affect the candidacy of all black men, but I’d bet it’s more than a few.) Finally, couple that with a culture that tells its young people that the police are out to get them and are not on their side, and it’s no wonder fewer black men and women volunteer to join the police force.

Whether this hypothesis is true or not, the racial activists’ short-term fix is to make a policy to only hire black cadets – qualified or not – until the disparity is eliminated (which is somehow not racist), which completely fails to address any long-term issues. Just like every other “affirmative action” measure.

Geebus. Lessons not fully learned, must be the fault of our educational system.

Do not steal from convenience stores Note, the word ‘convenience’ does not mean ‘get your free shit here, like mini cigars for rolling your pot in’.

Do not try to steal a cop’s gun while he is wearing it, he may shoot you with it instead.

If he is pointing it at you and tells you to do something, this is not a good time to argue with him about it.

OK, kids, everything of your desks, pop quiz.

The issue at hand – Michael Brown’s breaking the law – is NOT a color issue except to the extent that the law is black and white. The law applies equally across the board – white or black, rich or poor. The law IS egalitarian if obeyed equally.

“Diversity” or forced multiculturalism or affirmative action is the opposite of color blindness. “Diversity” creates a race ‘entity.’ It denigrates blacks into a position where they are thought of as needy, stupid and, as you stipulate, Andrea, less able to obey the law because a white police officer was involved. How stupid, Andrea. Are you trying to win white privilege brownie points?

Michael Brown would rather bust up things than to take a hand out from you, Andrea. Don’t you get it?

We can try to dissect the psychotic BS coming out of MSNBC leftists mouths but lets just be straight. They are bigots, plain and simple racists!

Lowery is, of course, correct. What he articulates is basic instruction and advice that one’s FATHER imparts to his children as part of raising them.

When I was growing up, and this is verified as being the case with many others, I respected the police, yet I feared my father; although I never behaved in a way that warranted a ride in the backseat of a police cruiser, I would much rather have been there than answering for my actions to my Dad.

The real issue here is what cop in his right mind would risk his career by policing in Ferguson.

MouseTheLuckyDog | November 30, 2014 at 4:41 pm

Ok I have not yet read the article here, but it seems an appropriate time to post this little video by Chris Rock ( and it being Chris Rock a strong language warning ). It is titled How not to get your ass kicked by the police,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igQDvYOt_iA

The funny thing is Robinson says something about not relitigating the case as if his side had won and the case was closed. That’s because in his mind, with the approval of the left-wing media, they did.

Andrea Mitchell, acting all holier-than-thou and all that…

DARN IT! Lowry gave away America’s secret for ‘thinning’ out the herd of reprobate inbreed thugs – try to exercise a little common sense! Maybe they won’t remember, between the times they’re acting tough, doped up and hidng from the poooleece! What has me confused is what is the difference between thugs like Brown and the Liberal elites? I don’t see a lot – except maybe smell.

WHOA…WHOA This, Andrea, Honey Bunny!! News Flash for The Mitchell Girl: In deepest alpha sleep Rich Lowry is 100-times smarter than you at your fully conscious best. Surprise us, Andrea Dear, and try exposing your pathetic self to the thoroughly terrifying horror of critical thought.

You and Candy Crowley must have lots to gossip about, B’Yotch.

Another lesson is to not charge a cop whose gun is pointed at you when you’re 30 yards away. That is a form of suicide that is known as “death by cop”.

People who make Travon Martin or Michael Brown their heroes and people who listen to Andrea Mitchell are simply idiots. Not name calling. Just plain truth.

Interesting tidbit, Mr. Robinson. Neither Travon Martin nor Michael Brown were living with their maternal mother at the time of their untimely demise. Both had been “kicked out” of the home, exiled to go off and live with their daddies, both reputed gang bangers.

Hey, Andrea Mitchell, let’s make these two guys symbols of the Revolution!

I’m really tired of hearing about “conflicting testimony” as if it really cast doubt on what went down. You had the forensic evidence, and testimony that matched the forensic evidence and then you had the usual cop haters and people who wanted to be a part of the story. Their “testimony” is not given any weight because it is NOT credible. There was zero credible conflicting testimony in this case.

Exactly! There’s enough hard, physical evidence that the events can be accurately deduced with evidence alone, no testimony necessary. Any testimony that conflicts with the evidence is pure B.S.

    Every. Last. Word.

The people who still bring it up to support their flawed point are effectively saying, “Who are you going to believe: me, or your lying eyes?”

I believe Brown’s mother has summed up their reaction.

    “I don’t believe a word of it.”

Because her baby couldn’t have done the things that bad, evil policeman claimed, and the physical evidence? That’s gathered by the poh-lice. Except when it’s gathered by the FBI and then shared with the police, but the sharing taints it, or something.

DissonantCognizance | November 30, 2014 at 11:24 pm

I wish Mr. Lowry would have had the opportunity to make Chuck Todd eat his words… First off, Chuck’s use of “we” when talking about urban whites is a prime example of what Ace was talking about when he posted regarding speech as performance (http://ace.mu.nu/archives/353402.php) – Chuck wanted to clearly identify himself as one of the “serious thinkers” who lives in an urban area and acknowledges racial problems, while identifying those “other” yokels in rural areas as, well, racist… Second, it’s pretty obvious that Chuck hasn’t looked at a county-by-county (or precinct-by-precinct, for that matter) election map in quite some time, or he would have noticed that the Democratic party has had a stranglehold on most of those urban areas for decades. Given that Chuck’s bien pensant urban friends clearly understand that racial problems exist, one can only conclude that they either don’t care and only want to use those issues as a prop to garner votes (as well as to make themselves feel better) or their policies don’t work.

what’s disturbing is that lowry’s simple, common sense statement could be considered to be, in any way, ‘controversial’.

MaggotAtBroadAndWall | December 1, 2014 at 9:48 am

The truth hurts. The only thing better would have been if Lowry had pointed out the media’s horrible track record of following Sharpton down dead ends. Tawana Brawley and Duke lacrosse were frauds, the Trayvon Martin case was so weak that a fair jury unanimously voted not to convict Zimmerman and now the case against Wilson was so weak they could not even get an indictment. Too bad Lowry didn’t point that Sharpton is an evil and despicable man who profited from all of those episodes and tried to ruin the lives of a lot of innocent people. Oh yeah, and he happens to be Chuck Todd’s co-worker and draws a paycheck from NBC.

Now that would have been spectacular.

Disparate standards. Only in a “minority” community can an upstanding youth not rob a convenience store, walk down the middle of the street with pride, and fight with and try to take a cop’s gun without suffering persecution and even death.

Char Char Binks in reply to n.n. | December 1, 2014 at 3:45 pm

I think you’re right. In fact, I think that’s why Dorian Johnson kept walking with Brown after the robbery, even though he seemingly didn’t intend to take part, and why he told his lies afterwards. Johnson wasn’t a particularly upstanding citizen, but I don’t think he was all bad, and I’m sure 140 pound Dorian was intimidated by 292 pound Brown. I’m sure he would have been bullied, and persecuted, if he had walked away from it, or moved to sidewalk when ordered to by Wilson, and he would have gotten worse from his “brothers” if he’d told the truth to the cops

Just to be clear, Rich Lowry’s advice applies to non-Black folks too.

There’s something I’ve been wondering about.
Both Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown had been smoking blunts shortly before they got involved in the confrontations where they got killed.
Does anyone know whether there something in the combination of marijuana and nicotine that makes people mindlessly belligerent?

Henry Hawkins in reply to blacksburger. | December 1, 2014 at 7:59 pm

Yes, I know. The answer is no. This is a correlation, but not causation. It’s the same as pointing out Martin & Brown were both black and young and deciding that must be the reason for their viol….. hmm, bad example, Henry. Anyway, ’tis coincidence.

And of course the senseless murder of black babies in the womb goes on without notice. There have been a lot since the gentle giant pulled the thug card. I bet mitchell would come up with something to support that genocide. Guess black lives don’t matter afterall, eh andrea.

Now THAT is speaking truth to power! It’s sad that the truth leaves them gasping like fish. Not facing the truth and the soft bigotry of low expectations is damaging our country.
