Not that that was good…it was pretty awful, really.
I was on the I-10 freeway headed west one day a few years ago when a chick in a BMW with a Code Pink bumper sticker suddenly pulled in front of me and hit her brakes a couple times before flipping me the bird and careening across a few lanes to take the 405 north.
I don’t know if she was a Code Pink wacko herself or just sympathetic to their cause … but either way she could have caused me to have an accident with another car. Moron.
For a few nanoseconds I thought she might be having a seizure or a heart attack or something … until I saw the Code Pink sticker and realized she’d targeted me because of the Bush/Cheney sticker I had on my car at the time.
These people put their crazy ideology before other people’s safety. She could have easily caused a deadly mishap that day if I’d swerved into another lane going 65.
We may laugh at them, but their extremism wasn’t too funny to me that day. No thanks to her I made it home safely that day. She’s lucky I wasn’t the type to go after her … but I’m not about to play games on the freeway and endanger innocent lives. Moron.
I find my 97 crown vic (TBH usually traveling 85+) does a real bad job slowing fast enough to prevent filling their rearview mirrors with 2 tons of full frame car.
now it MAY just be my slow movement of foot from gas to brake but it usually scares them.

Chicago: many people stayed home from work/school on Friday. Downtown was empty. I had lunch with my two sons in a Thai restaurant near the locked-down De Paul University. The three of us were the only ones in the normally packed restaurant.
The news videos today have downtown Chicago looking like a ghost town again.
The police superintendent estimates 2500-3000 protesters (3:00 pm CST). A reporter said dozens of issues being protested. Not much coherence.
I don’t see how Chicago is helped by all of this disruption. But what does logic have to do with it? Somebody is benefiting but it is not the taxpayer or small business.
I see this Chicago based event as congealing Obama’s world-wide ambiguity. I think he’s prepping for a new global position that he will obtain after he loses in November. An ego like Obama’s needs an enormous floor mat.
I always thought Chicago residents were far too passive about the way their politicians presumed to rule over them. I was irked over over trivialities such as letting JFK Jr. put on a midnight fireworks show outside the Art Institute on a week night during the 1996 Democrat Convention and useless gestures like banning the sale of spray paint. This is massively more disruptive. Is there any sense of outrage over the cost of this fiasco?
I saw one article saying it was costing the city $4 million, not counting lost sales and productive time.
Good thing Rahm has the city in such great financial shape, eh?
A lot of small business are taking it on the chin because of this.
I used to live a block away from Water Tower Place. The entire area effected by the street closures, public transportation restrictions and museum closings are ringed by small retail shops and restaurants. They rely on the massive amount of foot traffic that gets generated on a fine Chicago weekend for their profit. Obama is joking about this crowds being small compared to Taste of Chicago. But that’s because all the normal people stayed away. These clowns out their protesting aren’t going to spend anywhere close to what gets purchased on a normal May Sunday around Grant Park.
Then there is the cost of all these restrictions on tomorrow’s business day in the Loop. No westbound trains from the South Shore. Huge hassles using the CTA trains that go near McCormack Place. Dozens of rerouted buses. Massive traffic tie ups because of the closure of Lake Shore Drive. It’s likely to be a less than fully productive week anyway for many businesses with people taking off early next Thursday and Friday. What’s the total economic cost of only a three day week for every business in the effected area? I hate to think about it.

What’s especially notable is that they will condemn Europeans and their descendents forevermore (or until the money runs out); but, they will not expose the long history of Islamic imperialism, and its campaigns of rape, pillage, enslavement, and occupation. In fact, the current Islamic campaigns in Europe, Africa, Asia, India, and Russia, stir nary a complaint by the so-called civil and human rights businesses. Of course, that’s because these “well intentioned” people and cooperatives conspire with certain authoritarian interests to grant them entry. Well, that’s one implicit danger of promoting democracy. It seems we either have a tyranny of a majority or a minority, when neither is desirable.
1- What “race” is Muslim?
2- What did Muhammad have to say about non-Muslims, the “filthy kuffar”, when he had enough power, or privacy amongst his own followers, to say as he pleased? What did he do to them, or more accurately, have done to them?
3- Why is it that the overwhelming majority of Arabic-speaking immigrants to the United States are Christians – non-Muslims abandoning now-Muslim countries in which their own culture long predated Islam?
4- Where and in what form did the labor come from to build and maintain such “modern” cities as Dubai? What spurred Indonesia to ban women from pursuing promises of “good jobs” as maids in Saudi Arabia?

At first I couldn’t figure out why the Code Pink signs were shaped the way the are. My first thought was misshapen Meaty Bone dog treats. Then short, stout man parts. Then it hit me that they’re supposed to be female torsos with boobs. D’oh! Awful, just awful. You would think the very least they could do was make a boob sign correctly.
In other words the code pinkos tried being boobs and ended up looking like dicks.

Chicago/Cook County/Illinois taxpayers have provided the following to these visitors: Port-a-johns, water (sometimes directly handed out by CPD officers), Air-conditioned cooling buses (no joke). When about 250 protesters wouldn’t go home, Chief Garry McCarthy was out on the front lines along with many other white shirts–right up there at Cermak and Michigan.
My dh told everyone at his office to work from home tomorrow. I sure hope that someone reports the total cost to taxpayers of this boondoggle.

Regardless that Rhambo was Barry’s Chief of Staff, he doesn’t have the history in this town that the Daley’s do. Daley’s superintendent pick, Jody Weis, was utterly dreadful and would absolutely never have been out on the line with his officers. I’ve worked with a number of police officers/chiefs, and this is what the good ones do. There are very few superintendents/commissioners who would do this. Can’t imagine Ray Kelly doing it; don’t know if McCarthy did it in Newark. He wasn’t the only one…many white shirts on the line. Made a real impression.
Your previous comment described the CPD handing out water to “visitors,” presumably the kinds of characters in Anne’s images. I understood you to indicate that that’s what the superintendent was personally involved in.
There were about 250 protesters who tried to breach a mounted police line and would not disperse for another hour and a half. It was a rugby scrum in an area of about half a city block or less. McCarthy and other white shirts were right in there with the police in riot gear chanting “Move! Move! Move!” and pushing back on the hooligans.
Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy is reporting this morning that his officers caught protesters using red paint and bandages to fake injuries in an area protesters had cordoned off for “triage” which, I suppose in this case, should have been referred to as the “makeup department.”
Additionally, WGN-TV Morning News is reporting that the protestor who claimed to have been hit by a police van was released from the hospital without a single injury. Further, WGN claims that closer inspection of the tape of this incident “calls into question” the veracity of the protestors claims.
As a friend of Bill W., I take offense at these idiots’ bastardization of the maxims, “fake it till you make it,” and “act as if.”
Preplanned sabotage of emergency medical services. The effect is to delay treatment for those who urgently need it.

The preceding sentence is way milder than what I originally typed. I’m taking a deep breath and waiting for more information.
In the case of the so-called “triage” area, I failed to included the fact that the so-called “medics” running the area were, themselves, protesters.
I should have included that in my original comment for proper context.
Which explains why the “triage” area was blocked off in an alley attended by what were described as “street medics” wearing black shirts with red tape on the armbands and back. Note to self: add definition to dictionary “street medic”=make-up.
