And they complain that Sarah Palin is “stupid” and unfit to be President?

Obama recently expressed a view of the economy in which technological innovation is viewed as a threat to jobs:

President Obama explained to NBC News that the reason companies aren’t hiring is not because of his policies, it’s because the...

Maybe I should start a Gravitas Series, and invite Dr. Rube Goldberg to the opening ceremony.

The most brilliant minds in the world devised the housing double dip, and they didn’t even know it:

Housing’s Double Dip: Is the Government to Blame?

The S&P; Case-Shiller home price data for the first quarter of...

The great experiment devised by the most brilliant mind ever to occupy the Oval Office, the massive expansion of government and the piling on of debt and regulations, is not working:

U.S. companies hired far fewer workers than expected in May and output in the manufacturing sector slowed to its lowest level since...

Two metaphors for where this country is heading under Obama:

  1. Low-flush toilets cause stink in San Francisco: “San Francisco’s big push for low-flow toilets has turned into a multimillion-dollar plumbing stink. Skimping on toilet water has resulted in more sludge backing up inside the sewer pipes, said Tyrone Jue, spokesman for the...

Thanks to Instapundit. for reminding me that it was just two years ago that Rick Santelli fired off the Rant Heard ‘Round The World:

It gets better with time, and applies equally to the public sector unions which expect taxpayers to subsidize pensions and benefits which the taxpayers themselves do not have.

Santelli...

Judge Feldman was quite direct in his ruling, He...

Watching Sean Hannity’s interview with Donald Rumsfeld last night reminded me of Rumsfeld’s “known- knowns, known-unknowns, and unknown-unknowns” statement during a press conference in 2002.  I use this construct in class to describe how to build a legal case (you build it around the...

The AP (via CBS News) has a headline sure to warm the hearts of the Obama communications team:  High Taxes? Actually, They’re at a 60-Year Low:

Actually, as a share of the nation’s economy, Uncle Sam’s take this year will be the lowest since 1950, when the Korean War was just getting...

Needless to say, administration supporters will be touting that the unemployment rate released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics this morning dropped from 9.8% to 9.4%.  Politically, this is good news for Obama, at least in the short run.

Dig just a bit deeper, and you will see that 0.2% of that...

The nation’s “debt ceiling” will need to be raised early in the next Congress to accomodate the new reality of trillion-dollar-plus annual deficits.

The possibility that the Republican House will refuse to raise the debt ceiling is the favorite topic of discussion in the media and by the Obama administration.  There seems...

China is ascendant so our administration wants us to emulate China’s infrastructure investments and constructions, by building high-speed and light rail projects few will use and which will further drain state budgets.

It will not last.  China’s ascendancy, that is.  I agree with this analysis by a short seller (someone who makes...

The tax framework is falling apart, as a substantial number of Democrats and a few Republicans start taking shots at various provisions unrelated to marginal tax rates.

Once again, Obama has chosen complexity for the sake of complexity, a lot of moving parts and social engineering.

There was, however, a solution which would...

James Pethokoukis wrote an interesting article the other day, Why Wall Street Should Fear Sarah Palin.

Palinomics, embryonic as it is, seems to be rooted in “free-market populism,” a version of conservative thinking that is pro-market rather than pro-business. It says the role of government is to help markets function more fairly...
