Kellyanne Conway Tag

Trump's Campaign Manager, Kellyanne Conway will join the Trump administration in a new role -- Counselor to the President. Conway turned down an offer to function as Press Secretary but will work closely with that individual who will be announced soon. As counselor to the president, Conway will still have a hand in communications and said that while her role will be similar to that of Valerie Jarret with President Obama and Karen Hughes with President Bush (43), she will not compare herself to any other individual.

Much of the commentary about Kellyanne Conway's Meet the Press appearance this morning has focused on her criticism of the prospect of Mitt Romney as Secretary of State. We'll discuss that in a "Note" below but would like to highlight a striking statement by Chuck Todd that immediately preceded the Romney discussion. Todd was grilling Conway over potential conflicts between Trump's business interests and his role as president. Conway eventually had enough, and observed "I went back and looked at what all the press clips and the conversations on shows like this eight years ago. It was basically debating just how cool Barack Obama is. . . . if we're not going to do that about President-elect Trump, we should at the very least trust him to do the right thing and comply with the law here." A visibly annoyed Todd shot back: "I understand. Every knee-jerk pushback is going to be to blame the media. It's a crutch. I get it. And I'm used to it. But it's not the fact."

Assuming this statement by Kellyanne Conway proves to be the case, it's a major promise broken by Trump. The NY Post reports:
President-elect Donald Trump won’t subject Hillary Clinton to a criminal inquiry — instead, he’ll help her heal, his spokeswoman said Tuesday. “I think when the president-elect who’s also the head of your party … tells you before he’s even inaugurated he doesn’t wish to pursue these charges, it sends a very strong message, tone and content, to the members,” Kellyanne Conway told the hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” who first reported that the president-elect would not pursue his campaign pledge to “lock up” Clinton, his Democratic opponent.

On With All Due Respect, John Heilemann was aggressively questioning Kellayanne Conway, arguing that conflicts of interests would arise when the Trump administration makes decisions that could affect Trump business interests at home or abroad. Conway eventually had enough. She shot back: "look, John, I know the election results are very tough to swallow, particularly for those of you who just couldn't see it coming, couldn't even conceive of the possibility that the other candidate may actually win, that you don't understand America." Ouch.

Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway was in the process of wrapping up a bravura performance on today's Morning Joe. Conway was crisp, pleasant, substantive and nimble. And this Insurrectionist found himself thinking: for once, Conway can focus on the issues as the campaign sees them, instead of having to clean up after some intemperate statement Trump had made. And then . . . Morning Joe rolled a clip of Trump at a rally repeatedly calling out by name NBC reporter Katy Tur for her failure to report the good news about his campaign. Willie Geist: "Do you think it's appropriate for Donald Trump in a setting like that to single out any reporter by name given the heat reporters have taken in this and that Katy had to be escorted out by Secret Service at previous rallies?"
