The recent G7 economic summit included exchanges between Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and French President Emmanuel Macron that was nearly as heated as the Amazon wildfires. During the summit, the G7 nations had agreed to send aid to fight the fires in the Amazon. Brazil rejected that offer, with a concise reminder about the Notre Dame blaze and European deforestation.

Jair M. Bolsonaro, the President-elect of Brazil and frequently referred to as the "Brazilian Trump," had promised during the campaign to move Brazil's embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Israel's capital, Jerusalem. This was consistent with his strong pro-Israel stance. There was speculation that he would back off the promise, as had numerous U.S. Presidents prior to Donald Trump.

Jair Bolsonaro, known as the "Trump of Brazil," has won the presidency in the runoff against former Sao Paulo Mayor Fernando Haddad with 55.1% of the vote. The ex-army captain has portrayed himself as an outsider, even though he spent 27 years in Congress.

Former Army captain Jair Bolsonaro of the Social Liberal Party came out on top in the first round of presidential elections in Brazil over the weekend. However, he did not reach the needed 50% to avoid a runoff. Bolsanaro received 46% compared to former Sao Paulo Mayor Fernando Haddad's 29%. Yes, despite the large gap between the two men, they will have a runoff on October 28.
