A comment to our bumper sticker post, Guide to California Crazy, inspired a response from reader JoAnne:
Just wanted to add this picture to prove Alex’s hypothesis! And just another reason we left California! This pic is from 2006 but she changed the signs to go with the current campaign.
It was taken in Concord, CA in May of 2006. Suck, huh?!!
Thanks for all your work.
Here’s part of the comment to which she was responding:

I have pointed out before this confirmation of my bumper sticker guide to political personalities.
…. My hypothesis is that it reveals a certain basic strain in leftist thinking and motivation–that the primary goal of political opinions is moral display, showing oneself and others that one is a good, decent person whose sensibilities are attuned to a higher plane. To many leftists, politics is primary a means of moral exhibitionism and moral confirmation.
If anyone has arguments with this hypothesis, please offer them.

silly me, I always thought those inane stickers were just a way for the prod drones to prove what a bunch of self-righteous assholes they are.
I love the yellow ribbons, red-white-an-blue bunting, and “support our troops” talismans. I suppose to ward off what she knew was valid criticism of her anti-Americanism.
Support them in what? Fighting a war for oil for BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooosh?
A Kerry voter, too. We all should remember just how Kerry “supported our troops”. Every day.
And every day, we should remember that he’s been made Sec. Of State, and Hagel the SecDef.
It’s like a bad dream sometimes.
Nothing like a porch with a (point of) view.
If only there were a progressive Architectural Digest.
Ancient primitive civilizations placed mystic trinkets and talismans outside their houses to ward off evil spirits and to show their importance in the community. Shamans would then chant mystic phrases and dance around in strange costumes in order to attract the attention of benevolent spirits, who would then shower the tribe with gifts and good fortune. Sometimes the shamans even called for enemies of the tribes to be dragged forth and tortured in order to show the tribe’s dominance over their enemies.
I’m so glad civilization has progressed beyond those primitive times. Right?
Ooops! I thought that house was in Eugene, Oregon. My bad,
Oh, my, that was supposed to be “sick,” not suck!
Either…both…
“To many leftists, politics is primary a means of moral exhibitionism and moral confirmation.” i.e., Pharisees. Also, Roundheads, Puritans. Or: morbid misanthropes. In any case, they are deadly.
This and Alex’s comment are very important. This is why the mom jeans comments tick off Obama. The democrats ate riding the cool factor and demonizing the right. Pretty soon generational rebellion is going to take place and it will be hip to be square.
The recent Cruz tattoo poster is sending the right vibes. Obama has a wave of incompetence and destruction and the only thing he has is his cool factor and first AA president. He has been in office 6 years and soon the younger genrration will discount his race as an AA president will not seem omg to them they will want to know what he has really done. Plus making their moms and grandma’s swoon at his cough coolness is not going to be cool in the least.
It usually takes 15 years for change and the progs have been on their coolness kick since 2004 or a little before.
We still have a local who still keeps one of those yellow lighted billboards by the road saying “JAIL BUSH AND CHENEY!” (lights quit working 10 years ago)
But the dude lives in a shabbily fenced in junkyard that looks like a place even the American Pickers would pass by
