The barrycades at the WWII Memorial and Lincoln Memorial have received most of the attention.
But on Friday a group of Vets decided to storm the barrycades erected by the Obama administration at the Vietnam Memorial, as reported by the local NBC News station (via The Patriot Perspective):
Like the hundreds of World War II veterans who came to National Mall to pay their respects this week, a group of Vietnam veterans found a barricade blocking the way to their memorial Friday. News4’s Mark Segraves said two U.S. Park Service Rangers manning the gate asked that the group respect the government’s shutdown but moved aside.
Segraves described the exchange as pleasant and respectful.
The veterans then moved the barricade and walked down to the wall to pay their respects. But a flood of tourists followed even though the memorial is closed to the general public.
“The consensus among the group of Vietnam veterans was we’re going to go anyway. We’ll go through the barricade,” North Carolina resident Reid Mendenhall said.
U.S. Park Police arrive to the scene, asked everyone to leave and put the barricade back into place.

It is really time to become civilly disobedient before we the incivility starts. We all know the left is far beyond the first option.
Now you know why the Feds have been buying millions and millions of rounds of ammunition.
While doing their best to disarm us.
I have a hard time believing that any military personnel would fire upon civilian citizens being disobedient.

The EUTimes is our of Russia so you don’t know how credible it is, but remember what was said by the president when he was unaware there was a live mike when talking to Putin before the 2012 election.
not a reliable source
Went to the Outer Banks for some R & R ! Kitty Hawk was blockaded . Went through the back door ! Wanted to go to the Light house, Road Barricaded. Threw the Cones and Barricade in a ditch an drove on, So did the Americans behind me ! It’s “WE THE PEOPLE”
Not We the Politicians”. WE Must take our Country Back !
Stand up and be Counted !
The most famous quote from the man from Illinois as heard in Obama’s Shutdownberg Address …
“that for these honored dead we now block devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion — that I now highly resolve that these dead shall have died in vain and that I will never let a crisis go to waste!“
This BarryCade is Barry Dumb, but it will Barry Obama and it will Barry the Democrat corruptocrats!
Snark, Snark, Snark.
How many berries would a Barry bury if a Barry could bury berries?
This Barry guy is a small, vindictive, petulant child in an adult sized body.
I seriously doubt that in his child sized body he ever got reprimanded for anything he did wrong and even if he did, at times, through kiddie tantrums that are STILL recognized as second to none, in the kiddie ‘Hall of Fame’.
He has no heart, no soul and imho, no brain.
And rumor has it that is tiny tiny tiny.
The body man!
“and then I told them, I will not negotiate”
Let’s not be too hard on the Park Rangers; they’re only following orders.
Where have I heard that before?
That is the most disgusting excuse I have ever heard.
DISGUSTING. You are shameful.
When he tells them to ARREST them, what’s your answer?
When one of them gets injured, or shot, or killed, what’s your answer?
GO TO HELL.
I think you missed the point.
I didn’t miss a damn thing.
NOT ONE DAMN THING, you simpering eunuch wimp.
A brief history lesson might be in order for you: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Nuremberg_defense
What was the point?
C’mon people…turn on your internet sarcasm detectors. “Just following orders” was the excuse of all the Nazi troops.
Sarcasm and historical references are difficult online. Particularly when our cultural elites have worked so hard for so long to rewrite our history.
I thought the irony was pretty good.
The more I think about your comment, the more furious I become. So being a Park Ranger is SOOOOO great, you’d take your money and turn against good, decent Americans? What a piece of human garbage. Traitorous.
In case it hasn’t occurred to you, there is other work these people can do. Even if blacklisted by the federal government, it’s not like if you quit your job as a park ranger, you get sent to the gulag archipelago with Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.
If your loyalty is to money and not to decency, you don’t deserve the incredible gift of being an American citizen.
I repeat: GO TO HELL.
Any Public Serpent who obeys these illegal orders is a traitor to the United States. Any Public Serpent who stand by and allows this to happen is complicit. They can only regain their honor by resisting their bosses; by refusing or sabotaging illegal orders.
Hey NPS cop puke, how does it feel to betray your country?
Karen: chill a moment.
The park ranger very likely did not anticipate being put in this spot. After all the outdoor memorials always were open in past government “shutdowns”. This is new territory for them.
Before you castigate them, why not try educating them?
Fly / drive to DC. Go to the Memorial and talk with them. Use honey, not vinegar, it will go better for you. See if you can get them to look away when veterans, their families and tourists visit the Memorial.
That’s how you win this.
I’m not “chilling.” An adult is an adult. If he lives in the United States of America there is no excuse for turning on decent Americans.
You pick your employer. You can change your employer. No excuses for anyone who would initiate the use of force in these circumstances.
Not interested in the easy-going set. That’s how we’ve lost our country. Yes, it’s lost. It was a great place, and now it’s gone.
I must say I agree with Karen …. it’s gone. The interesting question is …. when did we really start to lose it?
Police catch the “Blue Flu” when it suits them, but according to you, this problem is just toooo difficult for them to grasp. No it’s not.
Chill, Karen.
Person was condemning the rangers, not excusing them. “They were just following orders” was the famous excuse used by the Nazi soldiers in the concentration camps and one that was firmly rejected by the Allies after the war. And, if you were to carefully read the UCMJ (Universal Code of Military Justice, I believe) you would see that soldiers are bound to NOT obey illegal orders and can be prosecuted and even executed (in a rational society) for doing so.
And most police agencies have similar provisions for dealing with unlawful orders. One is not bound to obey them. There may be repercussions, as most disputes with authorities seem to have.
Your outrage is commendable; but you’re ‘going offset-direct’, if I can use an old Air Force reference.
If you knew some basic Twentieth Century history, you’d understand the obvious sarcasm. The vast majority of posters at this site are very intelligent, wordly and educated. Once again, the poster who so greatly offended your uninformed mind was referring to this: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Nuremberg_defense
You have heard of WWII and the Nuremburg Trials, right? …….Right?
This “following orders” crap doesn’t cut it with me!
And you know who else claimed to just be “following orders”……
Eric Holder? Lois Lerner?
HA! 🙂
So nice, and polite, for a Stormtrooper.
U.S. Park Police arrive to the scene, asked everyone to leave and put the barricade back into place.
It’s just a good thing there weren’t any TeaPartiers there. You know how violent they are.
Those terrorists might have started quoting the Constitution, or something!
It is a violation of the right to “free” assembly.
Bullshit.
Any “Park” Ranger that stops a vet from walking up to that Wall to pay his respects is just enforcing this petulant asshole President’s temper tantrum. Any “Park” Ranger that keeps that shit up is gonna’ have some real “RANGERS” in his face real soon.
Excuse your ass for a “bathroom” break, have a “family emergency” phone call you have to make, or whatever, rather than have to say NO to a Vet’s moment at that Memorial.
This craps keeps up any longer, Obama will have every Vietnam Veteran in America in his face before he can say “FORE”!
I’m surprised we haven’t already seen them there.
These same lily livered jackasses would hold an umbrella for that SOB. What a disgrace and what disgraceful “people”.
He’s just Jay-Zeeing it.
I think I’d ask them by what statutory authority they are denying me access to a public monument that has always been open 24/7/365.
It seems to me there might be a way to lawfare the administrations into some pretty embarrassing positions.
I don’t follow the up-obama’s-bunghole media, but am told they always have his back and every effort is made to blame the tea party for THEIR intransigence of not wanting to bend over for Choom. Yes, Soetero is the emperor who wears no clothes, but what about the ignorant masses who continue to support the gay/mooslim/Marxist POS? Can’t negotiate with Republicans who are deemed terrorists but can kiss the arses of actual terrorists and provide them with weapons and plenty of our money? WTF is wrong with this picture. Yes, I know blacks and liberals adore the traitor-in-chief but what about the rest of the people? I check out some rich, white liberal opinions expressed on sites like the New Yorker. Of course they vilify Ted Cruz and love their magic negro and are ecstatic about either Hillary or that fake Mass. Injun senator from Mass. What the hell is wrong with people? Why do Jews continue to trust Obama’s dealings with Israel? Yeah, I am a racist terrorist for supporting the constitution and not drinking the koolaid nor licking Obama’s asp.
Thinking about it, I’m wondering why ALL the park rangers don’t just call in sick. What’s it called? “The Blue Flu.”
They do it for far less important reasons.
Bet they giving them triple pay or quadruple pay or food stamps or sumthin’….
Not just the veterans. That memorial was meant to be visited by civilians, and at all hours, without help or supervision. It cost money to put up the barrycades and add the guards.
First Amendment for WWII Vets, but not for Vietnam Vets? Equal protection or something?
Obama thinks that we were the bad guys in Vietnam. Probably because we helped our ally S. Vietnam, win against communism and the USSR (N. Vietnam’s sponsor)–until the Democrats threw S. Vietnam under the bus. WWII was the good war because the US fought on the same side as the USSR.
see? simple.
And when memorials and parks are vandalized because there are not enough park employees on hand?
You show your total ignorance of the Memorials in question, genius. Have you ever been to Washington D.C.?
There are never, ever, any National Park employees stationed at either the Vietnam Veterans Memorial or the WW ll Memorial.
EVER.
They are both, open air, no moving parts, no need for anyone to help you understand anything, Memorials.
But, then again, you would have had go there once or twice to figure that out.
Oh, I think there will be some vandalism. The Democrats will see to that. That’s what Democrats do. That’s what Democrats are.
Democrats can tear up an iron anvil.
If they were vandalized, we know who the DNC-Media will blame.
That will be Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-NV) fault too.
If Park Police were on patrol it doesn’t mean they will stop all vandalism. You seem to forget the green paint splattered all over the Lincoln Memorial and the shutdown hadn’t started yet.
Park employees are never there during non-operating hours (ie. EVERY night.)
Yet somehow our monuments have survived decades not being barricaded every day at sundown.
You are laughable, if slightly saddening.
Those visitors should not have left. And when the park rangers proceeded to arrest them, Mark Levin would have proeeded to get those half million people to converge on DC.
On St.Patricks Day 2007, after a threat on the internet two weeks before, that Iraq War protestors would “tag” the Vietnam Veterans Memorial with spray paint during a protest on that day, I stood shoulder to shoulder with about 1,500 Vietnam Vets from all over the county as we literally surrounded that memorial.
Ya’ think anyone sprayed a drop of paint on that granite?
Go ahead and try some shit.
Thank you for doing that, and for your service. You rock! 🙂
First the original link to yahoo story is no longer there. However, it is still, for now, up on the wayback machine. Perhaps someone can pdf it? http://web.archive.org/web/20070220184212/http://news.yahoo.com/s/usnw/20070216/pl_usnw/veterans_to_protect_vietnam_veterans_memorial_from_protesters__rally_in_support_of_iraq_troops__mission
Second, here is a site by veterans with a bit more history on the story. Good exercise to compare the two stories. I never knew this happened. It gives a little more clarity on why so many vets are withthe administration blocking the memorials in the name of government shutdown when they are open 24/7/365 days a year open memorials and are not affected by getting no money from the shutdown. Combine this 2007 incident with documentation that almost every one of Barack’s friends prior to 2007 were socialist or communist and anti-American and domestic terrorists and it could seem like dejavu or a continuance of 2007. http://www.capveterans.com/…/id29.html
Third, but should be First, Thank you, Sir.
THAT was fast! The last link no longer is from 2007 but a different page altogether! Let’s try this but won’t know if works until after post so apologize in advance if a dud link.

Happy Saturday! Here is video of what is happening at WWII and Vietnam Memorials:
http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Closure-of-War-Memorials-Continues-to-Cause-Conflict-226481851.html
Oh, and some guys and gals on Harleys are coming to town today:
“We already have riders coming in from adjacent states to support our vets. At the present time, we are expecting 1,000+ riders to come to DC to support this event! ”
http://worldnewsviews.com/2013/10/05/bikers-riding-to-dc-for-wwii-memorial-rally-tomorrow-oct-5/
How many park rangers and police officers does it take to arrest 1000’s of people that casually walk through an open air memorial? What a mess!!!
THIS is what I expected. :^)))
Great good news!

Such a great image! My gosh, people can be so creative… It’s vivid.
A picture is worth…
…a thousand out of office incumbent Democrats???? =D
My great fantasy right now is for these bullying Park Rangers to be beamed onto Normany Beach, at the beginning of the invasion, and watch them vomit with fear.
Barry, too. That pantywaist.
The national parks make money, so the “shutdown” makes no fiscal sense. Outside of the petty vindictiveness of this administration, perhaps a legislator should consider outsourcing the staff or department control to Disney. I think they’d be more pleasant, friendly and unaffected by this kind of political turmoil.
The longer this political drama drags on it, the easier it becomes for Americans to see how problematic the Leviathan is.
The anti-Vietnam war movement liked to chant “The Whole World is Watching.” That is so much more true today than it ever was in 1968 through 1973 and it can be made into a very effective weapon.

Floating Barrycades?
Feds Try to Close the OCEAN Because of Shutdown
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/10/05/Feds-Try-to-Close-the-OCEAN-Because-of-Shutdown
Let’s keep the goal in mind, which should be finding a way to use these employees’ instincts against them without causing damage to our side.
There is no comparable private sector job to Park Ranger. The people who hold similar jobs with state governments usually earn substantially less in salary and benefits. They have been given orders many know are counterproductive and without much cover of law. The odds are good most of them are fairly risk adverse simply because federal jobs appeal to risk adverse types.
What does that suggest is the best way to defeat them? What scares these people most besides the idea of loosing their cushy jobs? Perhaps being made to look like fools, and ineffectual fools at that? Perhaps the hassles of being called to testify before Congress? How do we get inside their heads and own them?
Calling them storm troopers doesn’t further these goals. And unless you have ever quit a secure, good paying job on principle or placed yourself in the position where you risked being fired for defying a dumb order that came from the top I’d suggest the self righteousness is misplaced.
Karen and others here have to remember something —
— not everyone is brave.
Park rangers are just as human as anyone else. I’m pretty sure they don’t like their orders but they see themselves as trapped. They’re also hoping, really hoping, that the shutdown blows over in the next day or two.
That’s why they’re following orders. Who wants to get fired when the shutdown’s going to be over in a week? That’s what they’re thinking.
I personally think the rangers should be as creative as the rest of us. “Blue flu” sounds like a great idea, but I don’t know if their union will back them up. Long bathroom breaks, turning their backs, etc., all would work.
But they need to be a little braver than they currently are. I don’t blame them, I understand human nature.
They’re going to need someone to lead them on this. Ordinary citizens can do that.
Which is why I challenged Karen in an above post and do so again here: fly to DC. Educate them. Get them to do it your way. LEAD THEM.
I have flown once since the TSA began its tyrannical practices. I don’t have time to drive.
They’re not brave? That’s why the country is dead. Because we no longer have the character of our forefathers.
If you’re so fond of holding the hands of the eunuchs, I suggest you kowtow to the TSA and hold the hands of the Park Rangers.
I see. You’re unwilling to distress yourself with a TSA encounter in order to walk the walk.
Ms. Sacandy, please remind me where your bravery currently resides.
Why aren’t you out there moving barry-cades aside? Afraid of the TSA are you?
Walk the walk, please. Your reasons for not being there and staring down the park rangers are no more complex than any one else’s.
If there was some sort of adminsitrative threat to their pay or benefits going on, they’d have no problem protesting/calling in sick, protesting, blah blah blah.
They’re vile.
Gosh, I wish my pop were alive. He died a couple years ago at 97; he was on Normandy and in 5 campaigns. Once we went to see W. at the Toledo airport and waiting in the car in line, some union thugs tried to jump him at the car window. Man, Pop was ready to take him on! I had to push the union thug back, explaining that Pop was NINETY EFFING YEARS OLD. That’s how much respect even old guys get from thugs. He would have been in the middle of this, if he’d been here.
And THAT is why I am permitted to carry, just ask that Branca Dude..
It’s not lost on me that the same people who threw blood and vile comments on returning military are now our rulers – Professor Emeritus William Ayers comes to mind.
It’s not lost on me that our “Rulers” are doing what DeGaulle and France couldn’t do in ’64. What was the Dean Rusk Quote? – “Do you want us to bring back the soldiers buried at Normandy?”. The Executive Branch and Senate #obamashutdown have closed Normandy.
They’ve done what IOTW joked of and closed Mt Rushmore including barricading Hiway shoulders.
They’ve closed the Atlantic Ocean in Florida – since his excellency claims to BE from Hawaii I’m picturing him wading into those monster North Shore brakers and commanding the waves to stop. Hattip King Canute…but was Canute a Saxon? There you go….
Canute or Cnut got a bad rap, The second half of the story always gets left out:
The actual story of King Canute:
The third, that with the greatest vigor he commanded that his chair should be set on the shore, when the tide began to rise. And then he spoke to the rising sea saying “You are part of my dominion, and the ground that I am seated upon is mine, nor has anyone disobeyed my orders with impunity. Therefore, I order you not to rise onto my land, nor to wet the clothes or body of your Lord”. But the sea carried on rising as usual without any reverence for his person, and soaked his feet and legs. Then he moving away said: “All the inhabitants of the world should know that the power of kings is vain and trivial, and that none is worthy the name of king but He whose command the heaven, earth and sea obey by eternal laws”. Therefore King Cnut never afterwards placed the crown on his head, but above a picture of the Lord nailed to the cross, turning it forever into a means to praise God, the great king. By whose mercy may the soul of King Cnut enjoy peace.
Canute showed Christian humility. Obama not so much
Politico would have you think that the phony memorial closures are equally the fault of both sides.
I could’t finish reading it (from the Drudge link). I feared hurling on my keyboard. Guess I’ll have to start right-clicking links for origin before going there.
This is nothing more than:
OBAMA_____________VS____________AMERICA
The radicalized left wing slimOcrats and its radicalized left wing media terrorist are trying their best to destroy this country
[…] William Jacobson, NBC’s affiliate in Washington, D.C. reports that police ordered tourists and Vietnam war […]
I expect the Park Service SWAT to respond to this dangerous challenge to the Park Ranger’s authority. After all, the first job of the State is to maintain it’s power. Allowing veterans to visit an open air park that was without any real Park Service presence would be tantamount to anarchy! Just ask Harry Reid!
To those who suggested I missed something: We live in a time when our way of life is being choked to death. If the best you can offer is some sarcasm, you’re hardly worth what you’re losing. Which is why you’re losing it.
Stand up, speak in a manly fashion, act in a manly way, redeem your country. Or, continue to be mealy mouthed, and continue to watch it die.
You would ban sarcasm as un-American because you didn’t pick up on the sarcasm in a single post, embarrassed yourself trying to evade your own responsibility to realize that the printed words of non-professional casual posters are often easily misinterpreted, and having doubled and tripled down on your own embarrassing knee-jerk reaction, you would further declare that anyone who uses sarcasm is not worthy of freedom, liberty, and all the other American values? That about cover your premise?
Don’t you think a simple “oops, sorry – didn’t catch the sarcasm” would have sufficed?
Yikes, what an ego.
What load.
I’ve posted on my facebook page- make tomorrow, Sunday October 6, 2013 National Civil Disobedience day. Most of us cannot make it to DC. There’s a local wildlife refuge nearby my place, and my family is picnicing there tomorrow for lunch. Get together with friends, head to the nearest national park, forest, refuge or memorial, and take a walk. Bring a lunch. And refuse to leave. Don’t respond, just ignore the ordergivers as if they didn’t exist. Go limp if they insist on arresting you. Don’t resist forcibly- just make it difficult for them.
Drove by it today and didn’t have time to stop. There were citizens brazenly practicing freedom up in the viewing towers, and others walking the paths. All of whom ignored the Barrycades to do so.
…nd get photos and call the media – any media.
[…] Drudge just picked up the story from Weekly Standard, who got it from Professor Jacobson at Legal Insurrection, who picked it up from us here. Thanks for the link, […]
Professor Jacobson, what are the legal ramifications of a large group of people simply saying “No, we will not leave?”
If there are enough people, it can be termed revolution. Seriously, though, Barry and his senatorial cohorts think we have become a nation of sheeple. They have no plans as to what to do if a large number of people say “NO!” And if they resort to violence to disperse a crowd peacably gathered, the articles of impeachment will follow as day follows night. Even purely partisan Democratic senators won’t be able to defend violent action against non-violent crowds.
“what are the legal ramifications of a large group of people simply saying “No, we will not leave?”
Google ‘illegal immigration’.
