The Chicago Teachers Union is being blasted after paying tribute to convicted cop killer Assata Shakur, a fugitive from justice who passed away on Thursday, September 25th, at the age of 78, according to Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

Cuban officials on Friday said that Joanne Chesimard, who was convicted of killing a New Jersey state trooper, has died in Havana decades after breaking out of prison and escaping to the communist island.

Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Chesimard, who was born JoAnne Deborah Byron and was also known as Assata Olugbala Shakur, passed away after living there for years under asylum granted by the Cuban government.

“On September 25, 2025, American citizen Joanne Deborah Byron, ‘Assata Shakur,’ passed away in Havana, Cuba, due to health conditions and advanced age,” the ministry’s statement said.

Despite her conviction and overall violent history, or perhaps because of it – and her escape to the leftist version of Utopia to live out the remainder of her years – Shakur, who was the godmother of murdered rapper Tupac Shakur, has long been on the list of cop killers whom far-left radicals, including leftists in academia, have embraced as revolutionary icons and heroes for The Cause.

Case in point, then-Temple Professor Marc Lamont Hill, who had this to say on the Black Liberation Army member’s 71st birthday in 2018:

Marc Lamont Hill, who teaches media studies and urban education at Temple, posted a picture of Assata Shakur on his Instagram feed to mark her 71st birthday, saying that Shakur “wrote the second book that changed (and saved) my life” and “taught me about the value and power of Freedom Dreams.”

[…]

“I pray for her continued safety and protection. I continue to work to demonstrate her innocence,” Hill wrote of the convicted murderer who has been on the F.B.I.’s most-wanted terrorist list since 2013.

“I implore the State to stop prosecuting an unjust and unfair campaign against one of our most treasured Freedom Fighters,” Hill added of the fugitive.

The New York Times also proved the point in their write-up on her death:

Relatedly, there was also this:

But back to the Chicago Teachers Union – of which Mayor Brandon Johnson is a member, here’s what they had to say:

Rest in Power, Rest in Peace, Assata Shakur.

Today we honor the life and legacy of a revolutionary fighter, a fierce writer, a revered elder of Black liberation, and a leader of freedom whose spirit continues to live in our struggle.

Assata refused to be silenced. She taught us that “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”

These people being in positions where they get to teach impressionable young children was not lost on X users, who sounded off in response:

Amen.

Here’s how the Chicago Teachers Union defines murder:

“Today we honor the life and legacy of a revolutionary fighter, a fierce writer, a revered elder of Black liberation, and a leader of freedom whose spirit continues to live in our struggle.”

That’s nice. I don’t suppose skin color has anything to do with it.

I don’t think we can live with these monsters anymore

They only get worse in their paranoid delusions

They want to murder us all

Rest in Peace Trooper Foerster. And may God give strength to to your wife and son,

Shakur’s legacy is being a career criminal who was convicted for murdering a police officer and then escaped prison.

Well, to be fair, she does seem to be a pretty exemplar example of today’s urban Black culture.

“Well, to be fair, she does seem to be a pretty exemplar example of today’s urban Black culture.”

And an exact exemplar of the hopes, dreams. and deeply held beliefs of the Chicago Teachers Union.

The Cultural Marxism Teachers have to be cleared out or we will turn into a Marxist country having all the children brainwashed.

Pathetic.

With teachers this stupid and amoral, it is no wonder that Chicago and its students are in the sh*t hole they are.

“In 1979, armed allies stormed prison, freed her, and smuggled her to Cuba”
Sounds insurrectiony. I wonder what — if anything — happened to them.

The Dhimmi-crats’ veneration, lionization and canonization of innumerable criminal murderers, thugs and terrorists, such as the vile Chesimard, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Che Guevera, Yassir Arafat and too many other reprobates to name, says all that one need know about this vile party’s perennial and immutable moral bankruptcy, fecklessness and evil.

Ah yes, the “Mild Dud”, Pressley, paradises a cop killer. Vermin.

Those that can, do.

Those that can’t, teach.

As a retired PA State Trooper who worked in Philly area, I was acutely aware of that shootout on the NJ Turnpike. This truly sickens me.

Alej: Y’all have plenty of Patriots, Veterans and loyal American Teachers in our Public Schools. Painting a broad brush stroke like your comment does, mischaracterizes a number of teaches. At the same time, the leftist Chicago teachers union is corrupt and raging hate against our American values that honor our LE across this great nation. Bravo-Zulu to our LE Units 🇺🇸
