California Ready to Ask People to Conserve Energy, Avoid ‘Charging Electric Vehicles’
“…avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles, and turn off unnecessary lights.”
California wants to ban gas-powered cars by 2035. The state wants everyone to have electric vehicles.
What about days when you have to conserve energy? These Flex Alerts include a provision to avoid charging electric vehicles.
I’m laughing so hard right now because California is ready to issue those Flex Alerts due to a heatwave. From The Los Angeles Times (emphasis mine):
For officials with the California Independent System Operator, which operates the Golden State’s power grid, a lengthy and punishing period of high temperatures means Flex Alerts are likely.
“If weather or grid conditions worsen, the ISO may issue a series of emergency notifications to access additional resources and prepare market participants and the public for potential energy shortages and the need to conserve,” the officials warned Tuesday night. “The power grid operator expects to call on Californians for voluntary energy conservation via Flex Alerts over the long weekend.”
During a Flex Alert, consumers are urged to reduce their energy use from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., hours when the grid is most stressed because of high demand and less available energy from solar panels.
If a Flex Alert is issued, customers will be asked to set their thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using large appliances and charging electric vehicles, and turn off unnecessary lights.
Dyyyyyying. But then again, when it’s that hot, do you want to leave the house? I never want to!
What about solar panels? Yup: “The power grid is particularly vulnerable in the evening, as electricity from solar panels tapers off but it’s still so hot that residents keep air conditioners humming.”
Gov. Gavin Newsom knows the system is weak. He wants the state “Legislature to loan PG&E Corp. up to $1.4 billion to postpone the scheduled 2025 closure of Diablo Canyon.”
These people aren’t used to the sweltering heat we feel in Oklahoma and Texas. Thankfully OKC doesn’t have the Houston humidity, which I do NOT miss.
The Flex Alert sounds like what we call Smart Hours in OKC. Monday through Friday, we pre-cool our homes from 12-2 and turn the AC to a higher temp between 2-7 PM. Like ordinary people, we do all of this during those Smart Hours:

Solar Cells can lose efficiency in very hot weather. They function best at about 70 degrees and can easily lose 10% efficiency at 100 degrees.
Solar cells dont work efficiently in the minnesota winter – between shorter days and snow on the panels.
But – Electric Heat pumps are “more efficient ” than gas furnaces – assuming you have electricity –
Germany is discovering this right now.
However, it’s not as big a problem for them, since they also have no gas.

Yet, warmists will tell you with a straight face that the grid can support hundreds of thousands of EV while eliminating fossil fuels simultaneously. Oh, they’re also anti-nuke too.

Governor Hair Gel is more important than you. He must be kept cool so he can keep coming up with great policy decisions like this and so his hair gel won’t melt.
I am also reasonably certain he is chauffeured back and forth to his office* in something other than an electrically driven vehicle.

The Dems know electric cars will quickly overwhelm our electric power grid.
They don’t care. That’s the plan. They want it to happen.
The Dems know most electric in the US is generated by burning coal and natural gas.
When the blackouts and brownouts come the government, run by Dems and Dem bureaucrats, can then start rationing electric power. Giving them much more control over the lives of Americans.
It’s a win-win for the Dem fascist control freaks. Or so they think.
There is no nation in the world with the infrastructure to support its population switching to EVs. Not only are there not enough charging stations – there isn’t enough power in the grid to run them if they were built. And there are no plans to increase power output. Just the opposite, in fact. Power production is being hamstrung.
The goal, as best as I can tell, is to get everything to a point where the vast majority of people don’t drive cars because it’s simply no longer an option.
Globalists don’t like you driving cars or taking planes; They like when you ride the bus, take a train or ride a bicycle.
They don’t like you living in suburbs with front lawns; They like when you are packed tightly into cities.
They don’t like you eating hamburgers; They have plans in motion to switch you over to soy and cricket powder.

Right now it may seem funny, but one day down the road when gas cars are gone and there won’t be power available to charge your EV, you will be saying “hey!! I can’t travel freely. I’m stuck here without transportation”.
“That’s the point” will be the State’s reply.

One thing most people don’t understand because they don’t do load calculations if what efficiency really means and does.
Basically its like this- they say on an L-2 charger it takes say 10kwh to fully charge a type 1 battery on average to full charge. (made up example for discussion purposes assuming a good battery at 50% charge)
That kwh is the end number at the battery. Now you have to add loss of efficiency ( it takes 100+% to get 100% work) at the load center, conductors, supply lines all the way back to the actual turbine.
In industrial settings (usually built to NEC) add about 30% more load than all the EV’s. For residential add 50% ( Home grade stuff is very weakly made compared to industrial counterparts)
Remember, everything thats WARM is losing energy and every connection is another loss.
The turbine must then be able to handle THAT additional load running at 80% duty cycle PLUS 25% for peak loading.
(This is why there are rolling blackouts to begin with)
Add all the chargers you want but without additional CAPACITY, the results will never be there.

How many more companies that actully MAKE THINGS will be leaving California as the rolling blackouts become more frequent? I say make things (tangible goods) as opposed to sitting in front of a screen making the next Candy Crush game or some new gimmick for a website.

Does Newsome have a plan for upgrading California’s electrical grid so that it can handle this load? I mean, something more detailed than “spend a lot of money”.
