Army Suspends Retired Three-Star General for Snarky Reply to Jill Biden on Twitter
“Lt. Gen. Theodore Martin, commanding general of the Combined Arms Center, has suspended retired Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky from performing duties as a Highly Qualified Expert”
The U.S. Army has suspended a long-serving general from a mentor position for offering a snarky reply to a tweet from First Lady Jill Biden on the subject of abortion.
Maybe this is part of the reason for the military’s current recruitment problem.
Axios reports:
Army suspends general after tweet appearing to mock Jill Biden
The Army has suspended a three-star general’s contract and placed him under investigation after he posted a tweet that appeared to mock first lady Jill Biden, USA Today reports.
The big picture: Retired Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky, the Army’s former top spokesman, responded to a tweet from Biden that said the rights of women had been stolen in the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
- “For nearly 50 years, women have had the right to make our own decisions about our bodies. Today, that right was stolen from us,” Biden tweeted.
- “Glad to see you finally know what a woman is,” Volesky said.
Axios goes on to mention that Volesky had previously replied to a tweet from Rep. Liz Cheney about the January 6th Committee, criticizing it for being all about partisan politics. One has to wonder if that’s playing a role here.
FOX News has a response from the Army:
The Army confirmed the suspension to Fox News Saturday and confirmed speculation that the veteran was under internal investigation for mocking Biden.
Fox News Digital reached out to the U.S. Army for clarification on the matter. A spokesperson for the Army confirmed that Retired Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky has been suspended. It also confirmed that he was part of an “inquiry,” but provided no further details.
“Lt. Gen. Theodore Martin, commanding general of the Combined Arms Center, has suspended retired Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky from performing duties as a Highly Qualified Expert — Senior Mentor pending the outcome of the commander’s inquiry,” the Army told Fox News.
I’ll leave you with this hilarious response from Judge Jeanine Pirro of FOX News:
So a three-star who repeatedly risked his life for us gets punished for a comment protected by the First Amendment? If Jill and company are so sensitive, find a safe space with other birthing people https://t.co/p7JBmu3Y1j

Perfect!
Meanwhile the number of leftists recruited into the U.S. Armed forces declaring on social media that they can’t remain faithful to the United States or their oaths due to the Dobbs decision will go unpunished.
But dare a three star go on social media and dare criticize the first lady, who is now she who shall not be questioned. Excuse me; DOCTOR First Lady Jill! Who wrote an essay, which is all you need to do to get an EdD and hers was crap as anyone who has ever taught and graded third grade English can attest.

The manager of a fruit-and-vegetable shop places in his window, among the onions and carrots, the slogan: “Workers of the world, unite!” Why does he do it? What is he trying to communicate to the world? Is he genuinely enthusiastic about the idea of unity among the workers of the world? Is his enthusiasm so great that he feels an irrepressible impulse to acquaint the public with his ideals? Has he really given more than a moment’s thought to how such a unification might occur and what it would mean?
I think it can safely be assumed that the overwhelming majority of shopkeepers never think about the slogans they put in their windows, nor do they use them to express their real opinions. That poster was delivered to our greengrocer from the enterprise headquarters along with the onions and carrots. He put them all into the window simply because it has been done that way for years, because everyone does it, and because that is the way it has to be. If he were to refuse, there could be trouble. He could be reproached for not having the proper decoration in his window; someone might even accuse him of disloyalty. He does it because these things must be done if one is to get along in life. It is one of the thousands of details that guarantee him a relatively tranquil life “in harmony with society,” as they say.
Obviously the greengrocer is indifferent to the semantic content of the slogan on exhibit; he does not put the slogan in his window from any personal desire to acquaint the public with the ideal it expresses. This, of course, does not mean that his action has no motive or significance at all, or that the slogan communicates nothing to anyone. The slogan is really a sign, and as such it contains a subliminal but very definite message. Verbally, it might be expressed this way: “I, the greengrocer XY, live here and I know what I must do. I behave in the manner expected of me. I can be depended upon and am beyond reproach. I am obedient and therefore I have the right to be left in peace.” This message, of course, has an addressee: it is directed above, to the greengrocer’s superior, and at the same time it is a shield that protects the greengrocer from potential informers. The slogan’s real meaning, therefore, is rooted firmly in the greengrocer’s existence. It reflects his vital interests. But what are those vital interests?
Let us take note: if the greengrocer had been instructed to display the slogan “I am afraid and therefore unquestioningly obedient;’ he would not be nearly as indifferent to its semantics, even though the statement would reflect the truth. The greengrocer would be embarrassed and ashamed to put such an unequivocal statement of his own degradation in the shop window, and quite naturally so, for he is a human being and thus has a sense of his own dignity. To overcome this complication, his expression of loyalty must take the form of a sign which, at least on its textual surface, indicates a level of disinterested conviction. It must allow the greengrocer to say, “What’s wrong with the workers of the world uniting?” Thus the sign helps the greengrocer to conceal from himself the low foundations of his obedience, at the same time concealing the low foundations of power. It hides them behind the facade of something high. And that something is ideology…”
One more time.
Funny how painting “Black Lives matter!” on the plywood shopkeepers put over their windows. knowing there will be riots and looting and arson, don’t save them. Groveling never does.
If only we could start using power of the purse after taking congress.
It was a stupid thing to do in reality as he was still working for the Government
Not that I disagree with any of his comments, but he had to know he was pushing the enevolope.
The envelope is now very very small. A mere general snarkiing The Doctor! As I would say Dr…..Who??? Her degree is so lightweight and essentially honorary as politics goes.
“[Jill Biden is] a fucking moron… a vindictive moron… The drunkest I’ve ever been is still smarter than Jill Biden could ever even comprehend… [She’s] a sh[i]t grammar teacher that wouldn’t survive one class in a ivy graduate program.”
–HUNTER BIDEN (laptop)
Snopes…?
Snopes…?
Snopes…?
“Snopes” has been busted a long time ago as bullshit.
No it wasn’t. Jill Biden is neither part of the gov’t nor any part of the chain of command that Gen Volesky is forbidden to criticize or question.
Your naive
I don’t have a naive.
He is correct.
His naive what?
Cant believe you got so many negatives on that.
You are 100% correct.
We in the military ( active or retired) know full well the UCMJ is very clear on this type of conduct and we all VOLUNTARILY signed a contract agreeing to follow these laws and regulations ( much more strict that civilian law) and are bound by that.
I also don’t disagree with anything he said but I expect a GENERAL OFFICER to set the HIGHEST STANDARD of compliance to regs.
Not a retired general officer — most of us who served take our oath to the Constitution as permanent, but conforming to the regs ends with discharge.
It is rarely a positive career move to criticize the boss’ wife.
My career ended when I retired. Doesn’t most people’s?
Modern Army Culture is toxic anyway; but the policies they are implementing make me wonder if the Real Goal might actually be to drive people away and minimize recruitment. Rather like bigwigs in Washington deciding that MWR spends too much on Auto Shops, Wood Shops, Ceramic Shops, etc. but they are too popular to just unilaterally shut down, so they understaffed them and changed the hours so that they were only open during “regular business hours” so that most active duty personell couldn’t utilize the facitlities. Then they gradually closed them over a decade or so because they weren’t being used.
Democrats want to ensure that the US cannot effectively fight a war, so they have installed people in positions of power that will implement policies that will ultimately give them the results that they want.
A Trojan horse… fetal ass for social distance. What other wicked solution this way progresses.
In the case of the now-closed NSGA Sebana Seca base in Puerto Rico, the wood shop was closed because it lacked about $700 in funding to make some of the tools safe (new and sharp blades for the power saws) and replace some missing or outworn hand tools.
But!
The entire thing had about $5,000 spent on it to turn the building into a Teen Center for the dependent children.
There was what HAD been a base laundromat before they started fitting washers and dryers into the family housing. It sat, abandoned, but the utilities were still working. I asked about reviving the base photography club. There were enlargers, trays, tanks, print dryers, etc sitting in storage. “Sorry, Petty Officer Bear. That building is deemed unsafe!”
The Navy Wives Club opened a thrift shop in that very building. It should be said that the “Wavy Knives Club” had our CO wrapped around their collective fingers to an extent not to be believed.
The goal is to minimize conservatives in the army, it is part of a purge. They don’t want low recruitment and will recruit foreigners if they have to to replace conservative americans.
The dems and military leadership fear nothing more than congress saying “your budget is too high and is getting cut”. If 2022 produced retaliation from a republican congress in 2023 Mark Milley would probably have a heart attack.
They love their institution, they just happen to be partisan dems who don’t want Republicans in it (so not unlike Hollywood).
Yes, this is serious business. Anyone, anywhere at anytime who utters a word, makes a mouth movement, or facial gesture regarding Dr Jill shall be penalized immediately.
This man was penalized and justly so. His firing, coming from straight the top, was very swift. Jill said, “Fire his ass,” and it was done!
What part of the gov’t does Jill Biden lead that Gen Volesky is forbidden to criticize or question?
sarcasm is what you are missing
Will this do it? As the immediate caretaker, manager of all White House staff and defender and voice of and for Joe Biden, Jill Biden in defending he who is not totally functionable to defend himself said “Fire his ass”
Thank you.
Thank you. I should have put a quasi-sarc tag.
Ok….sarcastically tell us what part of the gov’t does Jill Biden lead that Gen Volesky is forbidden to criticize or question?
She leads the president. By the hand.
Come on, there’s video.
Who do you think has more power Joe or Jill? The truth is, it is not Joe. It is Jill.
Jill Biden holds the most intimate and direct control over the supposed leader of the free world. Nothing is done without her permission or blessing.
Unofficially, America has what might be called a First Lady President.
Jill Biden was not elected to the office of POTUS.
Neither was Joe Biden.
“Neither was Joe Biden.”
x 1000
Representative Madison Cawthorn said. “You know, I would love to have a congressional inquiry to understand exactly what Joe Biden’s reasoning is, but unfortunately I don’t think he could find his way to Congress.”
“I’m talking from a very objective standpoint here. I think we should indict Jill Biden.”
“The man is clearly mentally unstable. He’s having some form of degradation of his mind,” he said.
If you want to indict someone, you would have to indict Jill, not Joe. Joe does not know what is going on. He as innocent as a new born baby and has about the same mental capacity.
Jill is in charge. She is calling the shots.
Again…Jill Biden was not elected to the office of POTUS.
I am very sorry, but I am not in a postition to do anything about it.
It’s never a good idea to directly or indirectly antagonize the boss or their spouse. Is it legal? Sure. Is it prudent? No.
“Is it prudent? No.”
I disagree. You may have to pay a price for speaking truth to power, but it should be done. I admire the 3 Star for it. I’m guessing he knew how petty and vindictive this mis-administration is and said it anyway.
I agree that speaking truth to power is important. I did so frequently which put a considerable drag on my military career at various times. I got over it and can sleep better for having done so but a price was paid more than once for damn sure.
Speaking truth to power may be a virtue and virtue might be it’s own reward but deliberately PO the boss or their spouse is definitely a not prudent action.
A display of moral courage is probably the best description and something the peace time SR Officers sometimes forget in their quest to shank their rivals on the way up the very narrow ladder of promotion.
He didn’t antagonize the boss. Biden has no earthly idea what is going on and hasn’t for a long time. The only way Biden would’ve ordered the firing is if they handed him a paper and said, “Here, sign this,” or a card and said, “Here, read this.”
This is literally a first amendment violation by using a government institution to punish politically protected speech.
If only he’d snarked about Melania’s clothes.
Um …. “If only he’d snarked about Melania’s clothes …. he would have gotten a pass”!?!
Tough crowd … snarking about snark it too much, apparently.
Well I guess Hunter will have to be hanged, drawn and quartered:

Hunter gets a pass because he’s the family crackhead.
And breadwinner. Or at least bagman.

Men, women, and “our Posterity” are from Earth. Feminists are from Venus. Masculinists are from Mars. Social progressives are from Uranus
Maybe this is people taking the entire “First Lady” thing a bit too far. It sounds like a title, and many are taking it as such. I don’t care if the wife involved is DeSantis’s, Trump’s, or Palins, there are no “First Ladies” or “First Gentlemen” in my vocabulary. They are the President’s wife or the Governess’s husband.
Period.
Just last month Joe was talking to reporters and Jill ran up and in the middle of a sentence while Joe was still talking, she grabbed hold of him and said, “We gotta go.”
You know what Joe said, “Yes dear.”
“You know what Joe said, “Yes dear.””
President Chester Riley.
Joe led away by the hand like a little kid seems quite normal these days. Probably had the threat of no ice-cream for being naughty.
Another political hit job
You have General Milley who colluded with China against a sitting President, but some retired general says something the royalty disagrees with, then it’s severe discipline. Milley and Austin are disloyal communists. They should be investigated if the Republicans take over congress
More productive to expect justice from a giant meteor strike.
“They should be investigated if the Republicans take over congress”
Thanks for the internet laugh of the day.
Exactly! Don’t forget the disrespect cast at Melania.
It’s Jill Biden. Be thankful he didn’t point out that the Empress had no clothes.
I seem to recall a lot of retired generals on CNN and Fox News talking politics….
I guess Hunter’s claims about Jill were accurate.
Gen. Volesky, a real-life warrior, not a glorified valet, carrying the bedroom slippers of political admin. generals, has earned his way in battle, proved by a legitimate purple heart, not the paper pushing awards of Austin and Martin, who are TRANSFORMING the Army into an LGBTQEIEIO showcase. We’ll show those Chicoms and those Russkys, the Pentagon will hold a Drag Queen Story Hour to tout the bravery of Milley, Austin and Martin. That will scare Xi into staying out of Taiwan and Putin out of Ukraine!
Ooh Rah, GENERAL VOLESKY !!!!!
