Facebook, YouTube, Shopify All Move to Deplatform Trump and Questions About 2020 Election

YouTube hasn’t deplatformed Trump directly, but they’ve doubled down on their promise to penalize channels that post “false claims,” which is awfully subjective.

In response to the breach of the Capitol building, several online platforms have deplatformed Trump.

Facebook began by removing Trump’s video asking protesters to return home with peace and joy in their hearts and has now banned Trump’s accounts from posting at least until the post-inauguration transition is complete.

Zukerberg posted the following Wednesday:

The shocking events of the last 24 hours clearly demonstrate that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in office to undermine the peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden.
His decision to use his platform to condone rather than condemn the actions of his supporters at the Capitol building has rightly disturbed people in the US and around the world. We removed these statements yesterday because we judged that their effect — and likely their intent — would be to provoke further violence.
Following the certification of the election results by Congress, the priority for the whole country must now be to ensure that the remaining 13 days and the days after inauguration pass peacefully and in accordance with established democratic norms.
Over the last several years, we have allowed President Trump to use our platform consistent with our own rules, at times removing content or labeling his posts when they violate our policies. We did this because we believe that the public has a right to the broadest possible access to political speech, even controversial speech. But the current context is now fundamentally different, involving use of our platform to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.
We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great. Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.
Online store platform Shopify booted Trump’s store. From TechCrunch:

Shopify, which hosted shops related to Trump’s campaign paraphernalia and the outgoing President’s personal brand, TrumpStore, has apparently taken down both of those properties.

“Shopify does not tolerate actions that incite violence. Based on recent events, we have determined that the actions by President Donald J. Trump violate our Acceptable Use Policy, which prohibits promotion or support of organizations, platforms or people that threaten or condone violence to further a cause,” a Shopify spokesperson wrote in a statement to TechCrunch. “As a result, we have terminated stores affiliated with President Trump.”

YouTube hasn’t deplatformed Trump directly, but they’ve doubled down on their promise to penalize channels that post “false claims,” which is awfully subjective.

Trump was temporarily blocked from using his Twitter account but indicated if Trump has one more strike, he’ll be permanently banned from the site.

At least the little piece of detritus finally admits he an arm of the DNC.

Remember, he stole facebook from his other Harvard chums. Now he’s the arbiter of American speech. Bah!

Why can’t he be honest for once in his life and come out of his MANY closets?

      Hmmmmmm…….

      Philo-Identitas says:

Across many articles here, many are posting “we have just lost the republic” and the like, those with such perception just don’t get it: Our republican system was lost a long time ago — you’re just now beginning to see it.

PDJT has challenged the political establishment, and the last 4 years have made it crystal clear that any semblance of a government “of, by, and for the people” was lost a long time ago.

An Oligarchy has replaced a Republic as the de facto form of government.

What genuine fascists do…

They know no one will ever touch them. Big Tech is trying to become the most powerful entity on the planet. In some way, they already are. If you can control the president this way, where will they stop? They won’t. We are in scary times.

So should I expect that BLM has been banned from Shopify? &bitter-laugh;

I hope you’re sitting down. You might get tired waiting.

Some, Select Black Lives Matter. Any other claim should be construed as “hate speech”.

Also, the Rainbow of inclusion, exclusive of black, brown, and featuring a gay pride in the shredded remains of white. Their logic is impeccable.

    Once you go Pro-Choice…

It is unfortunate, but blacks make most Part of that is black lives not matter. Part of that is due to being lazy, part is low average IQ, and part is a really shiftless culture.

Since the sixties blacks have had opportunity available on a platter, yet most have been unable (IQ), or unwilling to due the work necessary to take advantage of those opportunities. Instead they demand have benefits without earning them.

The election has been stolen, Trump has been deposed, all that remains is the erasure of Trump’s enormous successes and the deportation/reeducation of his supporters.

This is bullshit.

I said months ago they were going to do it the second that they thought he was safely gone.

They’ve been upping the ante and calling the RINO bluffs all year.

They officially do not give a shit about RINO talk show tough guys.

They’re going to start openly banning ANYBODY they don’t like that they think they can get away with, and now they don’t even have to pretend to care.

To be blunt I expect Jacobson to be banished by the end of next year.

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to Olinser. | January 7, 2021 at 6:40 pm

Good thing Professor Jacobson is old enough to retire from Cornell.

RE: “RINO talk show tough guys”

I’m so going to “steal” that! LOL

This is a continuation of the pile on that has been taking place for the last four years with the cooperation of never Trumpers and the GOPe. We shouldn’t be surprised. They will not stop even after President Trump leaves office. They don’t just want to destroy him, but annihilate him completely.

He has us. He REALLY has us.

If Trump is harmed, WE know we’re next. And we’ll act accordingly, because it is better to die fighting than to be killed like a sheep.

Just an FYI. Congress is drafting articles of impeachment to remove President Trump from office and bar him from ever again holding office.

    p in reply to MAB. | January 7, 2021 at 4:27 pm

    Source?

As of this typing Trump is out of office in 13 days. Both the House and the Senate are not scheduled to be in session next week.

House Dems have been constantly drafting articles of impeachment for the past 4 years.

What will definitely happen is that they’ll have boatloads of committee hearings and investigate the Trump administration to a level never seen before, and a lot of good people who worked in the Trump admin will have their lives and finances ruined as a result of the witch hunt.

      txvet2 in reply to p. | January 7, 2021 at 4:38 pm

Source is Pelosi. She is threatening impeachment unless Pence invokes Article 25. That stupid little Muslim chick claims to be writing articles herself, but she can be safely ignored.

He has bigger problems now than running for office. There is talk of criminal investigations for inciting violence at state level.

Anybody who uses Facebook or Twitter at this point is a loser.

Which is why I never actively used the platforms?

Facebook? Security sieve and only good for getting impeachment evidence on plaintiffs too stupid to lock down their social media accounts when they file suit.

Youtube? Sure, I use it, but I’m not a content creator and I have blockers to keep out the annoying ads. With the arbitrary and mostly draconian decisions made by the site, I fail to understand how anyone will still use it to disseminate content. I certainly wouldn’t.

Shopify? Never used it and never will.

I’ve NEVER joined Twatter or FascistBook – never will.

I have an old dumb flip phone – no tracking GPS, but still IMSI and IMEI will track you [carrier based and cannot defeat]. I’m considering a linux-based, open source PinePhone to maximize privacy concerns.

My new year prediction in a BiteMe administration: Chinese-style WeiChat mandatory tracking apps coming to your IoS and Android devices. It’s for the chillen, people!

This is simply another in a long series of Orwellian steps by Big Tech. I am beginning to think that they don’t truly see how this appears to those outside their bubble.

There are some companies that offer somewhat similar services to Twitter and YouTube. Less so for FB, but all are constrained by acceptance: market penetration.

IMO, upon leaving office DJT should choose new ‘platforms’ for his digital media. Those platforms would likely experience explosive growth as his social media followers and political supporters move with him.

DJT could potentially do more damage to Big Tech after he leaves office than while in office. Strange but true.

For everyone else, remember if you are not paying for it then you and your data, are the product being bought, sold and profited from.

A very small riot that shouldn’t have happened ( compare to a summer of $2Billion insurance bill, no idea how much unfunded liability) is now a power grab this country has never seen. It will be their reason to come down with a vengeance from the Leftists.

alohahola in reply to Skip. | January 7, 2021 at 5:24 pm

A very small set-up, more like.

Who convinced Trump that this “wild” rally/march was a good idea? That’s who the culprit is.

James A. Wells | January 7, 2021 at 5:19 pm

Zuckerberg looks like Michael Corleone testifying before Congress.

What violence did Trump advocate? I firmly believe that much, and perhaps all, of this violence was by Antifa plants for the express purpose of enabling what they’re doing in response.

But remember, Antifa/BLM/leftist violence is awesome and endorsed by this ugly weasel.

I don’t do FB and just deactivated Twitter. I’m waiting for everyone to move over to new platforms. Until then I’ll check here and a few other blogs for news and commentary. No more Fox News either.

Never forget the one man who could have saved he nation, but instead actively destroyed it.

One man.

His name is William Barr.

A hearty thanks to Trump and his rioters for this next round of censorship.

If he had accepted the results of the election instead of doing one story in court and another in the public instead of creating a false narrative about “stolen election” this simply wouldn’t have happened.

He has worked double over time for this for two months, and has likely destroyed his legacy.

Terence G. Gain in reply to Danny. | January 8, 2021 at 8:38 am

A tiny number of his supporters acting on their own without any direction from him has destroyed President Trump’s legacy? Only in the minds of those who are not merely unfair, but deranged. What would have destroyed President Trump’s legacy is not contesting an obviously stolen election.

If the claims of Maria Zack, as contained in her video interview yesterday, which is readily available just by googling her name, then President Trump’s concession was premature.

I think it is so funny that big tech wants to lose 75 million customers. I deleted my facebook and twitter accounts 2 months ago. I have not watched FOX since November 3rd and have never looked back. I get my news elsewhere. I just signed up here this morning. There are many place to get the real news. Facebook, twitter and etc. are all sowing the seeds of their own demise.

Of course they did.

The events in DC scared the everlovin bejeebers out of the left.

We aren’t the ones that are supposed to riot…we’re supposed to, at worst, peacefully protest and ask politely for them to stop crapping on us.

We’re the ones who are armed. We are the ones who have LOTS of military vets in our ranks. We are the ones who know how to fight when it comes down to it. We are the ones who know how to take care of ourselves and survive even without (gasp) easy access to half-caf, free range, vegan, lactose free latte’s.

If WE get to the point where we just decide we’re not going to take it anymore…um…that could be a problem for them.

See, they know that most of the time they can push and push and push and we will, at worst, tell them very firmly to stop.

That’s why anti-gunners will show up to a pro-gun rally, get in our faces and scream about how we’re all murderers…they know we really aren’t or they’d be far away from there.

What scares them is the thought that we maybe have finally had enough and that we’re just starting to get the inkling that it’s time to fight back – for real, not just with harsh language.

So, OF COURSE they’re going to try go cut off our communication. They’re going to try to shut down anyone who might take up the mantle of leadership, they’re going to try to prevent us from coordinating and organizing, because the potential of a coordinated and organized right with solid leadership and good communication scares them out of their minds.

And it should.
