AutoZone Stabbing Suspect Allegedly Beat Cellmate to Death

Jayvon Hatchett the suspect arrested for allegedly perpetrating the AutoZone stabbing which occurred August 25, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.
In court testimony, police said Hatchett explained he “felt the need to find a white male to kill.”
Now, police are investigating the death of Hatchett’s cellmate, Eddie Nelson, who was allegedly beaten to death by Hatchett.
According to Georgia local news, “Nelson was picked up for a probation violation on September 1st and then housed with the hate crime suspect.”
New details are emerging about what happened inside the Muscogee County Jail early Saturday morning when Eddie Nelson was allegedly beaten to death by his cellmate Jayvon Hatchett. Nelson was picked up for a probation violation on September 1st and then housed with the hate crime suspect.
“I have a question for the Sheriff. Why? Why did you put my son and that other man in there together? Why? Can you answer me that? I lost a son because of ya’lls negligence,” Nelson’s grieving mother told First News exclusively.
Nelson’s family is demanding answers about why her son was placed inside the same jail cell as Jayvon Hatchett, the suspect accused of stabbing a white Auto Zone worker after watching police shootings on Facebook. According to court testimony, Hatchett wanted to kill white people after watching those videos of police brutality and was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. “If this mentally imbalanced individual had been a member of the Ku Klux Klan, they would not have put him in a cell with a black person. If he was a rapist, they wouldn’t have put him in a cell with a woman. If he had bombed a synagogue they wouldn’t have put him in a cell with a Jewish person. If he had been that white kid up in Wisconsin that shot those demonstrators they would not have put him in a cell with demonstrators. I mean this is either sheer stupidity or meanness that’s the only way I can explain it,” Attorney Craig Jones said after reviewing details about the incident.
The gory scene inside the cell was described as a bloody mess where Nelson was beaten in the head, face, neck and forearms allegedly by Hatchett. The nurse on duty refused to go inside the cell and the guard performed CPR according to a source with first hand knowledge of the incident. The guard was alerted to the beating by another inmate inside the mental health ward. “How long does it take to beat somebody up to beat somebody to death with your bare hands and not have anybody notice,” Jones asked. Nelson’s mother pleading for justice told First News “something’s got to stop. This has to stop.”
Eddie Nelson’s probation violation was for failure to register as a sex offender. His family told us the classification was from a 20 year old case involving a “Romeo- Juliet” type relationship. “He was a good boy, a good young man. He would give you the shirt off his back. All kids love him. He loved kids. He was a fine young man, a fine young man, a good son and he shouldn’t have died this way,” his mom told us.

Nelson was set up. The cops saw “sex offender” and that is all they needed.
This. All the people gleefully rubbing their palms when an accused sex offender gets murdered in prison turn around and howl and demand justice whenever someone they like is arrested for political purposes.
We have more than enough examples of unfounded hysteria leading to the destruction of innocent people because everyone’s brains fall out the back of their head as soon as they hear “sex offender”. Apparently it’s been too long since the Satanic ritual abuse panic and the McMartin Preschool case.
I met a man who is condemned to living in rotten housing, and having to skulk around, avoiding schools and parks and the busy-bodies who track “sex offenders” on web sites and apps. You guessed it: an underaged girls, Not something like 12 vs 24. More like 16 and 19.
But, the busy-bodies are happy.
For sheer absurdity of American law, I can top that.
The only case I personally know was an old man in poor health who had, among other things, essentially no bladder control. (Not a relative, just some unfortunate, a little older than most of us.) When out on main street in a small Massachusetts town he suddenly found that he really really had to go, so he walked off main street (which was busy) and went around behind some office buildings (not busy, it being a weekend) and went in the bushes. Nobody witnessed it but the cops. He was charged with public urination or whatever the hell the charge is called. Fortunately a local physician, well-known to the court as one of its usual expert witnesses, explained to the judge that the defendant was not a pervert but a sick old man who simply couldn’t help it. Fortunately this doctor was an authoritative and convincing type, and the charges were dropped—and a good thing too, because they would have put the old guy on the sex offender list. Why? No sex was involved, but a penis was, and that’s close enough for the state.
For reasons like this, I never get excited about any criminal charges I hear about anybody until I also hear about some details.
Tom Swift, rinating in public is not a sex offense. That’s not something you get put on a registry for. Its simply urinating in public, which he admittedly did.
I have seen a lot of those. It usually is a guy that was “held back” a couple of times and a girl that is a little more adventurous that most. It is surprising how many times a junior boy and a sophomore girl ends up with a guy on the sex-offender registry.
Given the sparse details given by the victim’s mother and the timeframe cited, the most likely origin of the sex offender conviction was that he had sex with a 15 year old when he was 19.
That violates the “half your age plus seven” rule and is just over my squick threshold, but I don’t think it should carry a death sentence and people exulting in it disturb me.
They’re the modern-day pariahs. A good many choose to never register and will go to ground, rather than try to shoulder the overwhelming stigma. Which ironically makes it harder to track them, defeating the purpose of the registry.
Oddly enough, these tend to be the same people who routinely make jokes about prison rape.

The bar for being labeled a sex offender steadily is lowered. For example, peaking into a bathroom, while creepy, probably should not result in a 10 year sentence. Also, claims of sexual abuse by women, regarding their children are a very common weapon in nasty divorces.
Guaranteed life in prison? Google convicted murderers who were freed only to murder again. You may be surprised as there are lots of them. This feral animal at 18 yrs will be released by some pin headed parole board after 20 yrs.

Some clarification please. The sub-headline at the almost top of the post says that Hatchett was arrested for the stabbing death of the man in the Auto Zone. The story that follows says he was charged with aggravated assault, etc, without mention of any death involved. So did the person stabbed in the Auto Zone die of his wounds, or not?
The linked story from the Georgia news source included a photo of the beating victim, Eddie Nelson, and Nelson is white. Meaning that the sheriff’s staff put a white person in the same cell with a black fellow who was accused of stabbing a white person (maybe killing him) because he was looking for a white person to kill. It looks like the sheriff teed up a victim for the guy.
He survived, barely. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
“Allegedly” beat the guy to death… in a locked cell with no one else in there. This is more than alledged… for once this is straight forward. Two murder charges…. he need solitary confinement until he gets permanent confinement 6′ under.

End result, Nelson appears to have screwed up based on reported information and it cost him his life.
It is against law to hit someone with your car, but if you stand in the middle of a cross walk when a car is coming at you at a high rate of speed and you get hit and killed, yes it is the drivers fault, but you are still dead. Common sense comes in to play here. We need more of it, or self correcting behavior will continue to happen.
