Bernie: Total price of my promises is unknown, but Medicare for All alone is $30 trillion
Anderson Cooper: “How do you know it’s gonna be paid for if you don’t know how much the price is?”
In his Nevada caucus victory speech, Bernie Sanders rattled off — before an ecstatic crowd of college-age supporters — a laundry list of promises: Free public higher education, cancellation of all student loan debt, universal free healthcare, universal “affordable” childcare, minimum $60k per year teacher salaries, and a nationwide $15 per hour minimum wage, among other things.
And not just for citizens, but for the “undocumented” as well.
The crowd cheered wildly.

Anderson Cooper asked Bernie how much all his promised programs would cost and how would he pay for them. The response wasn’t pretty.
Anderson Cooper: How much will that cost?
Bernie Sanders: Obviously, those are expensive propositions, but we have done our best on issue after issue– in paying for them.
Anderson Cooper: Do you know how all– how much though? I mean, do you have a price tag for– for all of this?
Bernie Sanders: We do. I mean, you know, and– and– the price tag is– it will be substantially less than letting the current system go. I think it’s about $30 trillion.
Anderson Cooper: That’s just for Medicare for All, you’re talking about?
Bernie Sanders: That’s just Medicare for All, yes.
Anderson Cooper: Do you have– a price tag for all of these things?
Bernie Sanders: No, I don’t. We try to– no, you mentioned making public colleges and universities tuition free and cancelling all student debt, that’s correct. That’s what I want to do. We pay for that through a modest tax on Wall Street speculation.
Anderson Cooper: But you say you don’t know what the total price is, but you know how it’s gonna be paid for. How do you know it’s gonna be paid for if you don’t know how much the price is?
Bernie Sanders: Well, I can’t– you know, I can’t rattle off to you ever nickel and every dime. But we have accounted for– you– you talked about Medicare for All. We have options out there that will pay for it.

I can’t wait to see the Death Panels just to get it to 30 trillion because you know 30 trillion isn’t enough.
While I plan on voting for Trump part of me wishes Bernie would win and implement his 30 trillion dollar plan just so I could see the looks on people’s faces when they get their paychecks and wonder where all their money went. Maybe than people will finally realize that when the government says something is free you the taxpayer is paying for it.
That’s all very well for the taxpayers, but what about voters who aren’t taxpayers, or at least who aren’t net taxpayers? They don’t care how high taxes go, so long as they get their free stuff. They don’t get their comeuppance until the taxpayers stop paying, and the providers refuse to work for free or for slave wages.
I would guess that most of the ones who aren’t taxpayers usually vote democrat, the exception being the media, Hollywood and the ultra wealthy 1 percenters.
I would not bet on most of the ultra-wealthy voting for Sanders. Turning the country into Venezuela would not be good for them either. By the way, Trump really has done a good job for the “poor and downtrodden”, the historical base of the Democrats (until they contracted TDS).
The issue is progressive prices, not costs. With productivity improvements, technological advancements, personal responsibility, and self-moderation, medical care can be mostly affordable and avialable, with assistance (e.g. charity/voluntary exploitation) for the exceptions when it’s not.
If I heard all the BS from Leftists about the affordability of Medicare For All, some 30 TRILLION and counting, and how we can do that by “productivity improvements, technological advancements, personal responsibility, and self-moderation” we’ve heard is a TRILLION times. I’ll just start with personal responsibility and self moderation. Every leftist can show the way by paying their own way for their own health care. Then come back to us ordinary Americans and tell us all about exactly what “productivity improvements” will be achieved and what “technological improvements will yield 30 TRILLION dollars. They are just words to the Left, signifying nothing but their own BS.
Bernie had been assured there would be none of that newfangled math stuff, so this question had him yelling at clouds for hours.

If I recall, Vermont’s politicians thought about giving single-payer a whirl and when they did the math they discovered that taxes would have to be raised sky-high to attempt to prevent the program from bankrupting the state.

The thing that really fries me on this “Medicare For All” (a single payer insurance program) is the sympathetic conflation with giving millions of people health care who are otherwise dying in the streets. Is there any sick person in the country who walks into an ER and is thrown out?
