Is anyone surprised? Crist’s only chance at rehabilitating a political career is a senior position in the second Obama administration.
Crist has an Op-Ed in the Tampa Bay Times (via DaTechGuy) today explaining his treachery:

I applaud and share his vision of a future built by a strong and confident middle class in an economy that gives us the opportunity to reap prosperity through hard work and personal responsibility. It is a vision of the future proven right by our history.
Read the whole thing, it’s one of the most vomitous suck-up jobs ever.
And as you read it, give another round of thanks to the Not One Red Cent group which back in May 2009, when the Republican establishment in the form of the NRSC was backing Crist, fought to get Marco Rubio attention and support.

Off-shore workers now migrate from the Gulf Coast of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi to drill in west Texas. They work 14-14, 28-14 or 28-28, depending on the company, with many of them being accommodated at the well-site due to the housing shortage. While it’s work, drilling down by Fort Stockton doesn’t pay what working off-shore does. The big winners are the companies getting prime talent for prevailing wages during a boom.

I understand the desire, in political circles, to collect endorsements. It’s an old-timey political thing; you collect a bunch of famous and semi-famous names on your side, and the weight of it all is supposed to impress the ordinary schmoe into voting for you on election day.
Here in Chicago, of course, endorsements as an inducement to vote always ran a poor second to a freshly-printed twenty.
My question in this modern age is a simple one: does anyone think that endorsements in general, or Crist’s endorsement in particular, matter that much? Does the Obama team honestly think Crist is going to move the needle in Florida or is this just more ‘stamp-collecting’ to fill the news cycle?
I know the twenties still matter.
That’s the way it used to work prior to the advent of modern media. Endorsements were important because it was literally impossible for the common man to actually listen to any national office holder. Rarely the voter would get to hear an office candidate speak ONCE, and likely never met with them after that.
If you could collect the endorsement of someone respected as a thinker or great leader, the masses thought you must be (fill in the blank) in order for that person to support your candidacy / ideas.
That’s also why it used to make sense for Senators to be elected by their respective legislatures. It allowed for the local electorate to have input by electing the electors.
With the advent of modern media (weekly or daily newspapers, radio and eventually television) the candidates can actually hear the candidates stated positions from the horse’s mouth, so to speak.
I actually think that with proper attention, this endorsement could hurt the Establishment by showing what fools they were to endorse Crist and that the TEA Partiers were prescient in kicking Crist to the curb.
You’re right about the freshly printed twenty going farther than an endorsement today, though.
What a shock. Or not. Now I’m just waiting for Boehner and McCain to endorse Obama.
Wow! If only Obama can reel in the highly coveted “Sponge Bob Square Pants” endorsement then he will sweep the “marine invertebrate” endorsement category in 2012.
On the other hand, it appears the real Marine endorsement will go elsewhere this election cycle…

LOL. Good one, Crist. Obama is all about hard work and personal responsibility. That’s why he refuses to enforce our immigration laws, spends our tax dollars on programs designed to get more illegal aliens signed up for food stamps, and wants to gut the work requirement in welfare — because he cares so very deeply about hard work and personal responsibility.
With material as hilarious as this, maybe Crist’s next career move should be as a stand-up comic.

From my many buddies in Florida: Crist’s endorsement of Obama is going to have the following effect: NADA. His supporters in his lost race to Rubio were basically the Broward County and Palm Beach County Teachers Unions, as well as the few remaining journalists who still have a job at the Sun Sentinel. The rest of the state realized his leadership skills were about as effective as dead palm fronds–hardened and amber-colored from the Tallahassee summer sun.
