Republican John James tied in Michigan Senate poll

“It is now 39.5% for Mr. Peters and 39.3% for Mr. James.”

A poll taken in Michigan shows that incumbent Democratic Sen. Gary Peters is in danger of losing his seat to challenger John James.

From WLNS:

That “oh, oh” you hear from the Democratic camp of U.S. Senator Gary Peters is that, in one week, two polls are out showing his race against Republican challenger John James is a statistical dead heat and for an incumbent to be in that spot one year before the election is hardly good news.

In the Vanguard, Dennis, Pubic Sector Consultant poll last May it was Mr. Peters 42% and a generic Republican 36%. It is now 39.5% for Mr. Peters and 39.3% for Mr. James.

The race today is a toss-up.

At this point in the campaign last year when Senator Debbie Stabenow took on Mr. James, she had a comfortable lead.

But he closed the gap on her and now she is saying, “this is a make or break race and we’re at a critical moment.”

It does not help Peters that 37% of those in his state “don’t know or have no opinion about him.”

The Republicans hold the Senate by only a few seats. If James beat Peters and the incumbent Republicans win then the party will have 55 seats.

That will only happen if the stars align perfectly.

Iowa Republican Sen. Joni Ernst fell nine more points in a job approval poll. Other slipping in job approval include Sens. Susan Collins (ME), Thom Tillis (NC), Cory Gardner (CO), and Martha McSally (AZ). From Morning Consult:

In Iowa, businesswoman Theresa Greenfield, who is backed by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and EMILY’s List, outraised Ernst. In Arizona, retired astronaut Mark Kelly outraised McSally by some $2.5 million, according to his campaign. In Maine, state House Speaker Sara Gideon (D) outraised Sen. Susan Collins. In Colorado, former Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) raised $2.1 million since launching his bid in August, just short of Gardner’s $2.45 million over three months. And in North Carolina, former state Sen. Cal Cunningham raised $1 million, close to the $1.2 million haul by Tillis.

A poll of Maine voters showed that 50% of them disapprove of the job done by Collins. Mark Kelly leads McSally 46% to 41% in the latest poll.

We need more of the primary challenges.

I plan on voting for him.

What is wrong with Arizona? Mark Kelly? And spare me the knee-jerk CA transplants comments. CA didn’t produce McCain, Flake and so many others. I’ve been re-thinking my planned move to Prescott. At least they are represented by Paul Gosar. I don’t know a single non-conservative in AZ although I know Phoenix and Flagstaff are flooded with liberals due to the universities. What’s the excuse for everyone else?

I actually got called for this poll. He’s about the only one mentioned that I knew.

All —

Send him some money. If everyone sends even a little bit, it’ll make a huge impact.

Hope I didn’t break any LI “rules” by saying this.

I grew up in Michigan (Go Blue), so I started donating to James in his last Senate bid. I’ve already sent him some money for this try.

I’m also donating to OK-5 (Stephanie Bice) since the district flipped to D last time. Need to reverse it and get Oklahoma all red again!

Any suggestions for other candidates would be welcomed. I’m not planning to donate to any national committees.

I don’t know how valid the Arizona poll is, but it is probably safe to say McSally is a lousy candidate. She may end up flipping BOTH Senate seats to the Democrat Party in a short two-year span. That would be quite an accomplishment.

Call it the Arlen Specter Effect. GOPe politicians like McSally usually ends up alienating independents and conservatives without attracting the votes of the Khmer Rouge Democrats they are weirdly trying to appeal to.

On the plus side – if she does lose maybe the Arizona GOP will get smart and not try to nominate her to anything in the future (yeah, stop laughing!).

We can’t afford to lose even one senate seat. President Trump will be toast , we can’t take this lightly

“Pubic Sector Consultant poll last May it was Mr. Peters 42% and a generic Republican 36%. It is now 39.5% for Mr. Peters and 39.3% for Mr. James.”

Cue the Beavis and Butthead laugh.

“Heh heh it was a Pubic Poll heh heh”

Gardner and Collins are from bluish-purple states and have to walk a tougher line.

Tillis, Ernst, McSally are in red enough states that their poor performance reflects that they are poor candidates. I hate that we continue to have these lousy establishment candidates.

After the election, Congress has the “lame duck session”. When Cory Gardner [who was imposed on Colorado as the candidate by decree by the less than confrontational Colorado Republican Party with the expectation that he would lose gracefully] went back to DC to the House for the lame duck session, he kept on voting in the House like the collaborator he was. Newly elected to the Senate, with nothing that the Democrats could do to him. And he still was a RINO. He has not changed in his 6 year incumbency.

The fact that the only way to support President Trump is to keep Gardner in and hope he won’t roll over on the President is the only thing that might drag him across the line election day.

Good. This guy was very impressive when he first ran.

That’s a whole lot of undecided dead people.
