McMaster Resigns, John Bolton in as Trump’s National Security Advisor

H.R. McMaster is the latest White House staffer to leave in Trump’s administrative shakeup.
Thursday, Trump announced via Twitter that H.R. McMaster would be leaving his post as National Security Advisor and would be replaced by former UN Ambassador, the mustachioed John Bolton.
I am pleased to announce that, effective 4/9/18, @AmbJohnBolton will be my new National Security Advisor. I am very thankful for the service of General H.R. McMaster who has done an outstanding job & will always remain my friend. There will be an official contact handover on 4/9.

According to The Guardian, McMaster resigned and will also retire from the US army when he leaves the White House.
HR McMaster has resigned as Donald Trump’s national security adviser and will be replaced by the hawkish former US ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, the president announced on Thursday night.
Bolton has advocated using military force against Iran and North Korea and has taken a hard line against Russia.
Trump announced the switch in a tweet, writing that he was “thankful for the service of General HR McMaster who has done an outstanding job & will remain my friend”.
The changing of the guard will take place on 9 April, Trump said.
An official said that there were no incidents that led to McMaster’s exit, and that it was instead the result a continuing conversation between McMaster and the president.
In a statement, McMaster, 55, said he would be retiring from the US army at the same time as leaving the White House. He thanked Trump and the members of the team, who he said had “worked together to provide the president with the best options to protect and advance our national interests”.
Bolton was considered for Secretary of State before Trump chose Rex Tillerson, who was also relieved of his post recently.
The former UN Ambassador has since worked as a Fox News contributor.
Some reaction:
Congrats to John Bolton, a hard-headed realist with extensive diplomatic and governmental experience. He will serve this WH well

If you combine the best qualities of HR McMaster and John Bolton you’d have a fantastic NSA who also looks like Wilford Brimley pic.twitter.com/Bk81hpvje8

I'm a big fan of @AmbJohnBolton. Terrific pick for NSA! This is a BIG win for USA. Kudos to @realDonaldTrump on the decision.

He told me philosophers like Edmund Burke and Adam Smith were very influential on his world view, as well as Bill Buckley and Barry Goldwater https://t.co/oO1Z4MYr84

Anyways, here are two of the big interviews I've had with Bolton (one where he first suggested he might run for President) https://t.co/oO1Z4MYr84 and https://t.co/SmLza3k0tA

I’ll take ‘mustaches that should only legally be allowed to appear in 80’s porn movies’ for $1000, Alex.
Don’t know whether to be flattered or offended, but my mustache looks like that.
I have a “porn ‘stache” too! LOL!
I make do with a Viking-esque full beard.
I’m so happy that The ‘Stache finally got the gig!
Remember how earlier this week, reports were out that both Trump and Kelly were furious that the news about the Congratulation Call got leaked, that only a handful of people had known about it, and that when they found who had done it, he was gonna be immediately fired?
Within 48 hours, McMaster was fired. And nobody is talking about that leak anymore.
I guess this goes here.

Why I know I’d have gone in, Parkland high school shooting wise. And it’s not bragging on my part. You would have, too. I’d stake my life on it. In fact, I did.
F***ing eh, Bill Overstreet.
Emphasis, theirs.
I got a thumbs down. Which is fine. But think, did the Marines not know what they were doing when they gave me the thumbs up?
Yes, I’m kind of proud Marine Drill Instructors said I was OK.

This DI cleaned up his act, I must laugh. I don’t believe I have recovered from the broken ribs from getting butt sroked.
At the rate Trump is goin’ through staff, I think I’ll polish off my resume and send it to the White House. Hey, who knows!
I just sent off my application to be CNO. What the h3ll, I could be the greatest admiral since Nelson.
Perhaps, we might end up with a guy name William A. Jacobson as Attorney General!
That;ll happen shortly after I’m renamed Admiral Nelson.
That would be epic!
Ricky Nelson was a sailor?
I thought he was a poor little fool. Oh, yeah!
I was thinking about that just this morning. honestly, I think most of the people chosen randomly out of a phone book in a medium sized town would do a better job in Washington for a few years than those who WANT to be bureaucrats.
Wasn’t that Bill Buckley, talking about Cambridge MA vs. the faculty of Haaahvaaaahd?
Just underscores the fact that Trump doesn’t listen to anyone and is incapable of working with people.
Trump is misunderstood.
He is managing the White House like a baseball manager.
He keeps bringing in LOOGYs (Lefty One Out Guys).
I wonder if the democrats wish Flynn was still NSA.
Firewatch, were you the guy crawling the wall of my stateroom with the buffer?
I only made it to assistant bufferman. The career adviser offered me a promotion to bufferman if I could pass the MCI course, but I decided to take my extensive 0311 training to the civilian market. Unfortunately the night watchman market was flooded with Navel officers. LOL!
How’s that transition to civilian life going?
I’m starting a petition to nominate you attorney general.
Trump himself said it awhile ago. He WAS learning on the job. Took a year to figure some things out. Now he’s putting in place the team he thinks will best do what he wants.
Wonder what the guy in North Korea is thinking right now. Not to mention the Iranians. What the progressive fail to understand is that bad guys respect power. Treat them nice and they will only take advantage. Being tough does not mean war. It can actually prevent it.
There’s nothing wrong with using the power we have just as any other state would, so long as we adhere to our principles.
Trump sure keeps it interesting. Change from chaos. It’s exhausting. Too bad his detractors have never given him a chance to show what he could in an environment not centered on resistance, delusion and derangement.
Now that the spendthrift bill has passed and ensured that the dems will take the house this November, Trump will need some strong-willed advisors, like Bolton, to stand by him during his impeachment proceedings.
Wonderful. I wish he’d been given charge of the State Dept in the first place, but with only 52 (now 51) Republicans in the senate and at least three of them sure to vote against him he’d never be confirmed. NSA doesn’t need confirmation, so Trump can put him in without a fight.
You hit the nail on the head – Bolton would never be confirmed by today’s Senate.
Bolton is great. Wonderful news.
McMasters is a rat.
Sessions days are numbered.
Nah, I don’t see Sessions gone.
This is a spectacular development. I have been rooting for Bolton for years. Finally, he gets his chance. The very fact that the liberals are going out of their minds is proof enough that he is the right man for the job!

Brainless comment.
As usual.
Um, no. Not in this universe, anyway.

Doubling down on brainless.
As usual.
Allow me to paraphrase the MSM/NPR response to Bolton’s appointment: “Aaaahh!! We’re all going to die! He’s going to go to war with North Korea and Iran and everybody else he can! He’s only a Fox news contributor and sure he’s served in previous administrations, but aaaahhhh! We’re all going to die!”
It is kind of fun to watch.
This move is one of the best that the President has made. McMasters is a backstabbing POS.
Good. As your intelligence officer, I can tell you exactly what was wrong with his refusal to call Islamic terrorism, Islamic terrorism.
1. You have to be able to call what it is you’re fighting by its name.
2. Muslims can read their own holy books. The recruiting tool isn’t GITMO. It’s that we are afraid. Afraid to talk about what is obviously in there.
As one Muslim friend of mine put it in Star Wars terms, you can’t say the Sith have nothing to do with the Force. They’re not the Force, but the have something to do with it.
Actually as I understand it most of them can’t, and have no idea what they say except what their imam tells them. If the imam’s a decent sort he doesn’t tell them about all the nasty stuff.
