Palestinian Women’s Center Refuses to Drop Terrorist’s Name
Continues to honor Coastal Bus Massacre terrorist, despite Norwegian funder’s demand to change name.
Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) has reported that the village council of Burqa will not budge on their decision to name a women’s center after terrorist Dalal Mughrabi. The UN lashed out at the center for glorifying a terrorist and Norway demanded a refund of its donations to the center, as we previously reported.
According to PMW, village council head Sami Daghlas hails Mughrabi a hero. After all, she took part in a massacre that killed 37 people, including 12 children:
“The center has no intention of caving in to the pressure and change its name, the head of village’s council, Sami Daghlas, said… He said the name Dalal Mughrabi was chosen by the villagers to commemorate a Palestinian hero (emphasis added, Ed.) who sacrificed herself for her country and therefore they have no intention to change its name regardless of the price.”
Daghlas also brushed aside the backlash. From PMW:
“He said the people of Burqa do not object to return[ing] the money to Norway, which he said was only a few thousand dollars used to repair and refurbish the building, and would never capitulate to pressure and blackmail.”
PMW had reported that the center will educate people on Mughrabi:
“Reem Hajje, a member of the village council, noted that the center will focus especially on the history of the struggle of Martyr Dalal Mughrabi and on presenting it to the youth groups, and that it constitutes the beginning of the launch of enrichment activities regarding the history of the Palestinian struggle.”

Once the UN and Norway found out the name of the center, both immediately condemned the move. The Jerusalem Post reported:
“The glorification of terrorism or the perpetrators of heinous terrorist acts is unacceptable under any circumstances,” read a statement by a representative for UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “The UN has repeatedly called for an end to incitement to violence and hatred as they present one of the obstacles to peace.”

The UN statement came a few hours after Alon Bar, the Foreign Ministry’s deputy director-general for the United Nations and International Organizations, spoke with Robert Piper, the UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Development Activities in the territories, and expressed “grave concern” that UN institutions were connected with efforts to glorify terrorists.
The logo of UN Women, an organization that deals with gender equality and the empowerment of women, together with that of the Norwegian Office to the PA appeared on a sign at a women’s center in the West Bank village of Burka that was named after Mughrabi.
Norway insists that officials did not know the village would name the center after Mughrabi. From The Times of Israel:
“The glorification of terrorist attacks is completely unacceptable, and I deplore this decision in the strongest possible terms. Norway will not allow itself to be associated with institutions that take the names of terrorists in this way. We will not accept the use of Norwegian aid funding for such purposes,” Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende said in a statement.

“We have asked for the logo of the Norwegian representation office to be removed from the building immediately, and for the funding that has been allocated to the center to be repaid,” he said.
The Times of Israel has also confirmed that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas confirmed that President Donald Trump shouted at him over “Palestinian incitement against Israel during their meeting last week.” The Times reported:
“You tricked me in DC! You talked there about your commitment to peace, but the Israelis showed me your involvement in incitement [against Israel],” Trump is said to have shouted at a shocked Abbas.
The TV report said the outburst was followed by several minutes of shocked silence from the Palestinians, and that the meeting was very tense before the two sides managed to get back on track.
Mughrabi the Terrorist
I’ve blogged about Mughrabi before. She led and participated in the deadliest terrorist attack in Israel. The terrorists killed 37 people, including 12 children.

Mughrabi and 13 Fatah terrorists organized and executed the 1978 Coastal Road Massacre in Tel Aviv, Israel, on March 9, 1978. Two of the terrorists drowned when their craft capsized in a boat that headed to Israel from Lebanon. 11 survived and landed on a beach where they asked American photographer Gail Rubin for directions to Tel Aviv. In 2009, terrorist Khaled Abu Asba said that Mughrabi killed Rubin. From Haaretz:
Asked about the American nature photographer Gail Rubin, who was killed there while taking pictures, Abu Asba attributes her murder to Dalal Mughrabi, the lone female in the group.
Of Rubin, Abu Asba says, “We worried she’d tell on us. We didn’t know she wasn’t Israeli. We went out to the road and we stopped the first bus. We got on and started traveling south, and we explained to the driver, who spoke some Arabic, what he had to do.”
The terrorists hijacked a bus to Tel Aviv, from which they shot and threw “grenades at passing cars, at one point throwing a body from their commandeered bus.” On the way to Tel Aviv, “the terrorists managed to stop another bus, ordering its passengers to pile into the first bus.” Police tried a roadblock, but the terrorist ran right through it until they reached just north of the city. This second roadblock, much larger in size and aided by nails that officers spread on the highway finally managed to bring the rolling terrorist attack to a standstill. The carnage, however, was far from over.
The police traffic and patrol units that arrived on the scene were not specially trained to deal with terrorist or hostage situations. As the bus came to a stop, a firefight broke out between lightly armed officers and the terrorists who had brought sub-machine guns, grenades and explosives. As heavy gunfire was flying in all directions, police broke the windows of the bus and instructed passengers to jump. Soon after, the bus caught fire. By the time the shooting, explosions and fire were quelled, 37 Israelis and one American were killed, including 13 children, and 71 were wounded in the deadliest terrorist attack in Israeli history. Controversially, the fact that regular police untrained in hostage situations were the only security forces to respond is often blamed for the record-high death toll.
As Professor Jacobson pointed out in 2011, Al-Jazeera has glorified Mughrabi numerous times.

Yes, let’s blame the police for the acts of evildoers. It is now society’s burden to contain the intentionally ever-more-horrifying acts of perverts. I respect the overall Israeli response to the terrorists, including their cleverness, determination and ethical resolve. But the guilt for felony murder goes with the perps.
Thank you for all the clear and helpful background on this story. The Palestinian notion of a “hero” is perverse, and the only way to fully expose this is to present the whole story.
I would go so far as to say that the Palestinian notion of a “hero” is identical to Adolf Hitler’s idea of a hero – anyone who furthers the goal of eliminating the Jewish Race from the earth qualifies as a “hero” to them. That is their only goal, that is their only raison d’etre – when it vanishes, they will vanish as a people and simply become arabs again, as they always have been.
They allied themselves to Hitler, and were promised that when Rommel captured Palestine their Jewish problem would be taken care of. When that didn’t happen and Hitler was defeated they took matters in their own hands; in the ’47-’49 war they made no secret that their purpose was to continue Hitler’s work.
They worship death and aspire to become death’s apostles.
