Report: Baltimore Mayor Told Cops to Stand Down
“It’s not holding back, it’s responding appropriately.”
According to a new report from FOX News which is sure to generate controversy, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake gave an order for police to stand down during the riots which decimated the city this week:
Source: Baltimore mayor ordered police to stand down
Despite a firm denial by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, a senior law enforcement source charges that she gave an order for police to stand down as riots broke out Monday night, raising more questions about whether some of the violence and looting could have been prevented.
The source, who is involved in the enforcement efforts, confirmed to Fox News there was a direct order from the mayor to her police chief Monday night, effectively tying the hands of officers as they were pelted with rocks and bottles.
Asked directly if the mayor was the one who gave that order, the source said: “You are God damn right it was.”
The claim follows criticism of the mayor for, over the weekend, saying they were giving space to those who “wished to destroy.”
Bill Hemmer of FOX News asked the mayor to comment but she denied the claim. Watch:
Jim Treacher of the Daily Caller points out that it’s difficult to know where the mayor stands:
Did Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake Order The Cops To Stand Down?
It’s an anonymous source, so take it with a grain of salt. But it doesn’t seem far-fetched, considering what we’ve seen from Rawlings-Blake over the last few days. First she said she was giving rioters “space to destroy,” then she claimed she never said that, then she admitted she said it but meant the exact opposite. Now she’s apologizing for calling the rioters “thugs,” even though they’re definitely thugs. She’s not really leaving an impression of strong, decisive leadership.
I’ll leave you with this thought from Ace of Spades:
In Katrina, the Democrat Mayor, the Democrat Governor, and the Republican President could all be argued to have some degree of authority for the response to the emergency — but the Mayor and the Governor had the most, and the President could not act without their asking.
Nevertheless, the media decided the President was guilty.
In this case, the Mayor is Democratic, the President is Democratic, and the Governor is Republican.
Who will the media decide was too slow in reacting this time, I wonder.

According to the media and the DemocRATs, the Governor.
Her Honor is a hyphenated minority female, therefore not eligible for criticism, while on the other hand the Guv is a heterosexual white male Republican which automatically makes him responsible for all that is wrong and unfair.
Uh, perhaps the problem here is that women don’t make good leaders?
Kidding. Feminists promote the idea that women are wise and pacific and will not engage in needless violence. history proves otherwise of course: Bloody Mary, Catherine the Great, etc.
The governor was asked this question, and said he responded immediately, and further that his office had requested action by the mayor, which was delayed by the mayor.
I heard the Governor had tried to call the Mayor numerous times without success. When the Mayor finally called the Governor, the emergency declaration was signed within 30 seconds.
Remember this when the leftist libturds argue against gun rights, saying that citizens can best be protected by an armed police force.
Not a single looter was injured during their rampage so I’d say they were well protected by police inaction
There’s pretty strong cause-effect working to suggest that SOMEBODY told the LEOs to back off. And it sure seems in character for this Brandeis Baby.
And that’s a shame, because the time to deal with a mob is when its forming. Barney Fife had it right; nip it in the bud.
They are just lucky that nobody has been killed. That one officer is still iffy, and I think the mayor bears the responsibility for a lot of that. Not all. A lot.
What little I’ve seen on TV the mayor’s defenders are saying just that: Her management of the situation was “effective” because no one has died.
I guess the new, PC policing style is that you give law breakers all the room they need to be as destructive and even as violent as they want to be….as long as nobody gets killed. Does that sound like a 1st world nation? Crazy logic. All mobs need to do now is take on an “acceptable” social matter, form, talk loudly about injustice and then loot for what they want. Nice.
“giving space to those who “wished to destroy””
= voting for Democrats into the leadership of Maryland and Baltimore for fifty years.
Rawlings-Blake only said what was historically accurate.
She gave them “space to destroy” . . . other peoples’ property.
And most of that property won’t be covered by insurance, because insurance policies typically exclude coverage for losses caused by riots and civil unrest, unless you’ve purchased a special rider.
So this idiot mayor basically gave these thugs a green light to destroy other peoples’ lives and means of making a living for themselves and their families.
And more than that.
She’s just done immense damage to her city that will be rippling out into the future for decades.
Like other places in America where there were riots, Baltimore has “open spaces” that used to be businesses and commercial zones where people were employed, found goods and services, and interacted. Now, there are new “vacant lots”.
Those won’t likely be new building sites. Certainly not soon, and new businesses won’t be coming to Baltimore if they have a choice.
I’ve heard this idiot mayor and Barracula…among others…talk about how Baltimore needs good, high-paying jobs. They just don’t understand that those have been chased away by the actions of a few thugs, and the reactions of their civic “leaders”. Jobs don’t magically materialize out of the ether. But they do vanish like the morning mist when you make the environment for the businesses that bring them toxic and dangerous.
And, of course, the Blue Model cities and states DO create toxic business environments on MANY levels.
I heard that several major conventions have pulled out. Those would have brought several million dollars to the economy of B’more. I guess those conventions were to be held for the “White Privilege” class.
Her #SpaceToDestroy statement and the order to stand down makes her an accessory to the looting, property damage, arson and assaults that ensued.
She ought to be arrested.
A man reaps what he sows.
So do politicians.
Isn’t it frightening how those smooth lies just roll off her tongue, no teleprompter needed. All kinds of crowd tested words and phrases at the ready.
This video link is Giuliani on “The Gentilly Report” which says there is no “cooling off period”, but instead riots heat up.
The cool off period is an antiquated, discredited theory that has apparently been revived. Trayvon and Brown were heated up right from the top with Obama/Holder/Sharpton. That was useful for the get out the vote effort for the elections.
The current riots seem more convenient as misdirection for Iran, the IRS, Hillary’s crap, or open borders bull.

The whole of our foreign policy seems based in stand down orders, with Jarret calling a lot of shots, to protect Obama from blame for any deaths, at the expense of our global standing. It seems Benghazi was a treasonous stand down with Jarret perhaps acting from the situation room and Obama sleeping. Hillary may have been there, concocting the video alibi.

>> … The cool off period is an antiquated, discredited theory that has apparently been revived. …
Dunno. If a looter’s cooling-off period occurs on a marble slab at the morgue, might be as effective a piece of riot control as all get out…
“Responding appropriately” would be police refusing to protect the mayor, or her home. Let her be injured. Let her be financially wiped out.
In this day and age is that really such a terrible idea? Why should the cops open themselves up to charges, criminal prosecution, torts, condemnation by the media for doing their jobs if the rioters are just going to riot anyway and then they’re going to riot some more over the response to their rioting.
Of course the mayor told the police to stand down. If they send in the police they might stop the riot. The riot is being exploited as a racial division/stupid white cops/oh the oppression sales tool and they’ve got a long way to go before it’s milked dry. Besides, only people’s property has been destroyed. OTHER people’s property, so that’s cool. Ferguson took 6 months to clear, it was so ripe for exploitation. This one too will be milked for months.
Yes, it WAS holding back. No, it was NOT an appropriate response.
The appropriate response would have been to shoot looters and arsonists on sight.
So the cops were ordered by the mayor to stand down.
And even if the cops arrested anybody for breaking curfew or assault, the DA is not charging them.
And if any of the cops *do* stick out their necks to stop the looting and arson, you can bet the DA and the mayor will be more than happy to prosecute them into poverty, unemployment, and jail.
This leaves the police with few options other than to stand around in riot gear and collect overtime, while trying not to get hit by a bottle or a bullet.
God bless these people who still have the courage to go to work every day, hated by the criminals above and below them, and still willing to protect our lives.
