DOJ Sues California to Stop Counting 20,000 Ballots
“We provided California an opportunity to self correct its records and we requested that it segregate the suspected illegal ballots for the upcoming election.”
The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against California to prevent the state from counting 20,000 ballots.
The DOJ claims California did not review a list of possible noncitizens who would automatically receive federal election ballots.
“We provided California an opportunity to self correct its records and we requested that it segregate the suspected illegal ballots for the upcoming election,” Attorney General Todd Blanche wrote on X. “California has refused to comply and intends to facilitate noncitizens in voting, which is a violation of federal law.”
The lawsuit asks the court:
To do so, this Court should order California (1) to set aside vote-by mail ballots from persons identified by the Federal Government likely to be noncitizens and (2) to independently—or in collaboration with the Federal Government—verify their citizenship status (beyond relying on unverified statements of citizenship necessary to registering) before tabulating their vote-by-mail ballot. The United States seeks this relief to prevent unlawful dilution of American citizens’ votes and to protect the integrity of our elections.
The lawsuit says Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) performed its duties, leading agents to “reasonably” believe California has 20,000 noncitizens registered to vote.
The DOJ sent Los Angeles County “a password-protected thumb drive identifying people they believe are likely noncitizens who were sent mail-in ballots.”
Nevada complied with the DOJ in September, reviewing 185 names of people officials believed were noncitizens and registered to vote.
Nevada officials reviewed the names and found they were all lawful citizens. (I love how the New York Times acted like it was a bad thing because OMG TRUMP.)
California had 48 hours to review the list. Why didn’t it happen?
Dean Logan, the registrar-recorder/county clerk for Los Angeles County, confirmed his office received the letter and thumb drive:
Logan confirmed in a statement that his office received the letter and a thumb drive, along with a “hand written note providing a password” to access the list of alleged noncitizens on the voter rolls.
He said he did not consider the thumb drive a secure device and hasn’t yet accessed any files. The letter, which Logan made public, does not specify the number of individuals flagged by the federal government.
Logan said his office is working with the secretary of state and attorney general’s offices to decide how to proceed.
Uh, you access the drive and review the names. It’s that simple.
No, instead, California leaders rage against Trump because they hate Trump more than doing the right thing.

“He said he did not consider the thumb drive a secure device and hasn’t yet accessed any files.”

The only secure device in California is fraud committing Democrats.
So open the files on a standalone computer with all connections, wired and unwired, disabled to keep everything isolated, then manually look at their contents. The process might be labor intensive but it would be effective.
.
And, scan the drive with an adequate malware program. My anti-virus insists on doing it to my own thumb drives every so often.
It’s not that hard to take a laptop, unplug the wired network and disable the wireless network. There’s your standalone device. Look at the device. If you decide there’s a virus or something, restart the laptop and reset it to factory.
Whatever. California will just get a liberal, activist democrat federal judge dismiss the lawsuit (too close to the elections dontcha know) and impose an injunction preventing the federal government from attempting to prevent the 20,000 ballots from being counted. Guaranteed.
Gosh it would be a shame if the list of potentially unlawfully registered/illegally registered voters somehow made its way into the hands of the election observers/monitors of both major political parties who could then issue a formal challenge to those ballots forcing them into a provisional/challenged status and segregated from the rest of the ballots pending review.
Gee it would be really bad if CA elections officials disregarded the challenge process and mixed in these ballots so that there potentially 20K ineligible ballots mixed in. Gosh that would be 20K separate counts to charged on several different statutes. Shame if folks went to prison for in essence partisan intransigence when they had plenty of time/notice to act and avoid it.
The problem being that once the ballot is cast and the envelope is opened (mail-in) or it is placed into the tabulator (in-person) there is no way to isolate it since the ballots are anonymous and all identifying marks are on the mailing envelope. Obviously the only way to isolate them is before they are prepped for tabulation.
Nope. They wouldn’t get mixed in if there’s an existing challenge but if they did …Oh dear, how unfortunate that the entire election result must be set aside b/c a few recklessly irresponsible officials refused to meet the burden of their duty. Sucks for the folks in the impacted precincts but tough cookies. Nothing says Congress MUST choose to seat any Rep or Senator from a State/CD with legitimate uncertainty about the validity/integrity of the purported count. Be a real shame if as a result of intransigence CA had zero Reps in the House, be a very tough blow to the d/prog ambition of securing control in HoR.
Gosh, it would be a shame if democrats were ever held responsible for their illegal acts and actions. But gee, the simple truth is that Republicans don’t have the balls to take the issues that far so the democrats get off scot free for their illegal acts and actions no matter how in your face they may be.
As of now …yeah. Though I’m doing my best to move the Overton window. Given the recent DoJ filings the Trump 2.0 admin seems far more serious than even the Trump 1.0 admin.
I suspect that more and more folks within the center/right coalition are becoming more and more frustrated with ‘do nothing’ establishment folks on election security issues and the SAVE act is the centerpiece. Failure to embrace it and support it to the hilt probably cost Cornyn and maybe Cassidy their primary contests.
If the released number is 20,000 the actual number is closer to 2,000,0oo!
(too close to the elections dontcha know)
Which is why the feds asked them to basically make them contested ballots until the allegiance of those voters is confirmed.
It’s not like CA is going to have all the ballots counted that night, anyway….
Bah! Should have been a reply to Lucifer.
And meanwhile they keep counting.
Amazed at how the New York Times can take a third-party, no-name source and run front-page news on how Trump is a horrid person, but given a list of thousands of questionable voters, they do an in-depth research sweep and declare that not *one* of them is an invalid voter. Zero. That’s statistically impossible. I can pick a thousand random names out of any voter list, even the cleanest and sparkling, and find at least a dozen. Five bucks cash says the criteria used by their ‘fact-checker’ was something on the order of “Is this person a foreign citizen by their own admission and already deported? Nope, looks good to me.”
LA County alone got sued in ’17 to force them to remove something like 1.5 million intelligible ballots. There’s another suit alleging another million intelligible/unlawful voter registrations. Again having to sue to force CA officials to perform their duty under ‘motor voter’ and basic functions of voter registration list maintenance/ election security.
Exactly why ‘motor voter’ was a terrible idea from the start. If someone isn’t interested enough to do the minimal work necessary to register to vote, they shouldn’t be registered.
I agree about need for individual effort to register. That’s not material to the duty of State/Local elections officials to perform list maintenance. The real problem is Congress didn’t specify exactly what steps those duties required.
IOW the duty to perform the maintenance and remove the dead, those who moved, the illegal or or otherwise legally insufficient registrations EXISTS but there isn’t a ‘checklist’. Instead we’re left with public interest lawsuits to force it.
Another example of why we must make everything a pain in the ass, step by step, no leeway and no discretion b/c the era of high trust and a general expectation that folks, at least on big/important/visible things like voting, will do ‘the right thing’ is gone. That era is over and now we’re in the opposite, an era of low trust, where we gotta be willing to over regiment, remove any discretion and create pettifogging bureaucratic rules and draconian inspection, compliance and enforcement mechanisms to force folks to the ‘right thing’.
We’re in the “If you can keep it” era of the Republic.
Definitely so. Past time to reconcile ourselves to the necessity to heed and put into practice what Goldwater succinctly laid out:
‘Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice and moderation in defense of justice is no virtue’.
We should push for a “motor toter” bill. When you go to the DMV, they have to ask you if you would like a license to carry a handgun (if the state requires one), and if you say yes, they have to give it to you. After all, why should we make a citizen jump through hoops to exercise one right when we ram others down his throat?
Great idea!
Sorry. Roberts thinks nobody anywhere has standing.
This is government incompetence on full display. No, not Sacramento but the federal government believing there are only 20,000 illegal voters in California.
lefty: there are no illegal ballots
only illegal orangemen
What do they have against Syracuse or Northern Ireland for that matter?
This mail voting is going to sink us. Seen a street box in PA already.
Stuff em if you got them.
NYPost: Election fraud fears as more mail-in ballots stolen in California
Thieves swiped voters’ mail-in ballots from a post office in the Bay Area, sparking fears of election fraud after another theft of ballots last week. The San Mateo County Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder’s Office said in a Thursday press release that it was notified that the election forms were recently stolen from a US Postal Service Office in Daly City, including mail-in ballots from San Mateo County voters.
