Black Michigan Voters Push Back Against El-Sayed: ‘I’m Like, NO!’
“El-Sayed will have trouble again in Detroit. … Black voters are liberals and light progressives, but they are not socialists.”
MS NOW’s Morning Joe aired the second installment of its midterm series, “The Voter Files,” on Tuesday. Network contributor Elise Jordan spoke with a panel of black voters from Wayne County, Michigan, who had backed Rep. Haley Stevens in the state’s Democratic Senate primary. Their remarks did not bode well for Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
The consensus was that the far-left El-Sayed has wrongly taken black support for granted. Panelists said he assumes that because black voters typically vote Democratic, they would set aside their reservations, and vote for him — no outreach required.
One woman noted, “I think he’s taken advantage that we, as black people, are Democratic, and he thinks we’re gonna vote for him anyway, and I’m like, ‘No sir.'”
“I’m gonna have to put uncommitted down on that little circle and move on,” she added. “If you’re going to Congress to represent me, I need you to talk about what’s going on in this community.”
Another woman on the panel felt El-Sayed had missed opportunities to let black people know who he is. “We don’t understand him,” she said. “We don’t know him.”
Yet despite her doubts, she later said, “I’m going to vote for him ’cause I feel there’s power in being aligned.” She explained how badly she would feel if she didn’t support him and he lost the election.
While that may seem like a silly reason to vote for an unknown quantity, it likely explains why many Michigan Democrats will cast their vote for El-Sayed.
Others suggested they might sit out the election.
Asked what it would take to change his opinion between now and Election Day, one man replied, “I don’t know what I’m gonna do.”
Jordan asked, “What is holding you back, though, against him?”
“Not knowing enough about him.”
Commenting on this panel in a post on Hot Air, Ed Morrissey predicted that “El-Sayed will have trouble again in Detroit. … Black voters are liberals and light progressives, but they are not socialists.”
Morrissey added that El-Sayed cannot “afford to have black voters sitting out” this race.

It would be instructive to know what the other two had to say. Even if they ultimately vote for El-Sayed, the fact remains that one of the five — 20% — indicated she would not. While a focus group this small cannot establish how black voters statewide will vote, at a minimum, it highlights a vulnerability: If a sizable share stays home, skips the Senate race, or backs Republican Mike Rogers, it could sway the result of a close contest.
And despite El-Sayed’s current average polling lead of 3.2%, I firmly believe this race is tighter than it appears.

Perhaps the lack of enthusiasm for the radical El-Sayed among black Michigan voters is the reason the party has lined up a visit from former President Barack Obama on October 24.
While they hope he can drum up some excitement for El-Sayed, his efforts to gin up support for former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 largely backfired.

In the clip below, Obama demanded that “‘the brothas’ support Kamala because she ‘grew up like you’ and ‘went to college with you’ and had to ‘work harder.’” His message wasn’t received particularly well.

Finally, Slate Magazine suggested in a recent article that El-Sayed may have more to worry among black voters than Jewish voters. The left-leaning outlet cited a poll that found “83% of black voters said they wanted Democrats to control the Senate—but only 67% said they’d back El-Sayed.” [There’s that 20% again.]
The article reminded readers:
Now questions still surround his campaign about whether he can win over the Black voters who largely rejected him in the primary. El-Sayed won the primary by a single percentage point. He lost in Detroit by 28 points; Stevens won the city handily.
Clearly, Democrats are worried about El-Sayed’s performance among black voters. And they’re hoping that a visit from Obama might be able to move the needle. We’ll see.

Huh? What prior mayoral election? 2025 was the first and only time he ran. One poll said he got 33%, another said he got only 26%. And that’s of self-identified Jews, including those who aren’t actually Jews but tell pollsters they are specifically so they can boost these numbers.

Because not all Moslems are the same, just as not all blacks are the same There are a significant number of Moslems serving in the IDF. There are Moslems serving in the Israeli diplomatic corps. Not counting the Arab parties in the Knesset, which are anti-Israel, there are usually one or two Moslems in the Knesset from the zionist parties. So there could certainly be a Moslem candidate that Jews could support. El-Sayed is definitely not that candidate.
Does the same apply to Jews voting for Republicans?
Many Jews vote for Republicans. A growing number. But the old fear that Republicans are antisemites is getting a bit of a revival with the rise of Tucker Carlson and his fans, and the worrying relationship J.D. Vance seems to have with him. This will certainly drive some hesitant Jews back into the arms of the Democrats where they feel more comfortable because historically that was where Jews were welcomed.
The same applies to Catholics, especially ethnic Catholics. They used to almost all be Democrats, because anti-Catholic bigotry was openly accepted in the GOP and not in the Dems. Over time this has changed, but the memory remains, and any rise in anti-Catholic sentiment in the GOP would drive hesitant Catholics back into the Democrats despite the open hostility that is now on display there.
Remind the dem ones that it was Trump who opened up the first country club in Miami that took Jews and blacks in as members.

I agree. I find it astonishing a Jewish man would put concerns about his trans daughter losing her “rights” ahead of his home country.
On the contrary, if he is convinced (contrary to the facts) that Republicans are bent on persecuting trans people, and that his daughter will therefore be at risk of persecution under Republican rule, then it makes sense that this should concern him more than the fate of a country he has very little connection with, and is “home” only in theory if that.
Thankfully that is not happening and is not likely to happen, but the Dems have been busily convincing people that it is happening right now, so anyone who’s fallen for it should rightly be concerned.
It’s not astonishing at all. If someone is convinced (contrary to fact) that voting for Republicans will actually bring on persecution of their children or other relatives, then that should be a far more important consideration than the fate of a country with which they have little connection, and is only their “home” in a very theoretical way, if at all.
Thankfully the facts are otherwise, but Democrat propaganda is aimed at convincing people of this persecution narrative, and a lot of people genuinely fall for it.

During the civil rights era Jews were the best allies that blacks had. During Mississippi summer in 1964 when students from around the country volunteered to go to Mississippi to try to register black voters, Jews made up one half of all the white volunteers.
I would hope there are still many blacks who know how to distinguish friends from enemies. Sadly, too many Jews have forgotten how to do so. It is long past time for American Jews to stand up to the Democratic Party. If the most pressing issue for Democratic Party politicians is declaring that Israel has been conducting a genocide, it is time for Jews to stop supporting them.

What I get from this article is that, at the margin, a few blacks might not vote at all and a very few might actually vote GOP.
Overall, they aren’t happy and that is good, but not unhappy enough to materially break their 90+ percentage voting Democrat. Of helpful to Abdul, to be sure, but not of itself a game changer.
The 90% has already been breached. In 2024 Presidential election Trump got 13% of the total ‘black’ vote. With ‘black’ men he got 21%. For ‘black’ women he got 7%.
Of larger concern is the share of unmarried voting d/prog. Given that the rate of family formation is at historic lows while divorce rate is 46% for 1st marriage and much higher for 2nd or 3rd marriages that is a growing problem.
Add to that the age of 1st marriage is now just over 30 and the problem compounds. Factor in the age of 1st home purchase now at 40. In combination that means less married people in homes and having children which is the center mass of ‘conservative’ voters.
Reminds me of when liberal D’s were trying to get same-sex marriage through State Legislatures. They put most of their effort in States with the biggest D majorities, and yet failed 100% of the time.
0 for 32 on legislative attempts to pass same sex marriage, prior to getting Courts to impose it on us illegally.
The problem turned out to be the D’s own supposedly most reliable constituents: black voters. State after State, the highest % of NO votes of any identity group was blacks, with occasional exceptions for Mormons.
