Tucker Carlson Sides With Abdul El-Sayed Over 9/11 Remarks
Tucker Carlson: “Your typical Fox News viewer is likely oblivious to this, but America’s response to 9/11 blew the original attack out of the water.”
Tucker Carlson has inserted himself into Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, on the side of progressive Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, defending the candidate’s inflammatory comments about 9/11 while training his fire on Trump-backed Republican Mike Rogers.
In his Friday newsletter, Carlson declared El-Sayed “obviously right” after resurfaced remarks put the Democrat on the defensive for arguing that Americans fail to “center” the millions harmed by the U.S. response to the September 11 attacks. Carlson stopped short of a formal endorsement, but urged Michigan voters to keep Rogers “far away from Washington.”
The remarks at issue came from a 2021 podcast.
“9/11 scarred our country in profound ways, but what we did after 9/11 scarred millions of other people. When we talk about 9/11, we often fail to center them.”
Four days later, on the 20th anniversary of the attacks, El-Sayed posted a since-deleted message that mourned the nearly 3,000 Americans killed before pivoting to U.S. war casualties abroad.
“Today, I mourn the 3K lives, 6K injuries, & infrastructural devastation in NYC, perpetrated ignorantly in the name of my faith. Tomorrow, I’ll mourn ~1M lives, millions of injuries, & infrastructural devastation in 3 countries, perpetrated ignorantly in the name of my country.”
The associations don’t stop there. El-Sayed has embraced radical left-wing Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, the same Piker who declared “America deserved 9/11” and later displayed a framed front page of the attack in his studio as what can only be described as a trophy.
Rogers called it exactly what it is.
“It is disqualifying for a U.S. Senate candidate to believe that Americans should ‘center’ their grief from 9/11,” Rogers said, adding that El-Sayed’s attitude toward the attacks was “disgusting” and made him “completely unfit to serve in public office.” Rogers is no backbencher on these issues; he chaired the House Intelligence Committee and spent years on national security matters that El-Sayed apparently views through the lens of American culpability.
Carlson dismissed all of that and went after Rogers instead.
He argued El-Sayed was merely criticizing post-9/11 U.S. wars rather than defending the hijackers, a distinction his critics will find cold comfort given El-Sayed’s choice of allies. Carlson zeroed in on Iraq, contending the war made no sense and helped spawn ISIS.

Carlson went further, writing that U.S. actions amounted to “dozens and dozens of 9/11s,” and called that a “conservative estimate.”
He then flipped Rogers’ own language back on him, asking, “Hold on a second. Disgusting?” before concluding that Rogers, not El-Sayed, was the one “unfit to serve in public office.”
Let that land for a moment. A former Fox News host, once a reliable hawk who backed the Iraq War, is now running interference for a Democratic Senate candidate whose ideological allies think America had 9/11 coming, and doing so against a Republican with President Trump’s endorsement and a serious national security résumé. Whatever Carlson is at this point, he is not a conservative. Michigan voters should notice.

Carlson should have taken another opportunity to make his 9/11 response point. El-Sayed is simply too repulsive a person to serve as the starting point for such reflection.
We were all angry after 9/11 and all wanted vengeance, but most, like me, were confused by the form the response took. We wanted the specific bad guys along with their enablers, planners and funders, clearly and quickly identified and eliminated.
Instead we got a lengthy, rambling report, powerful middle- easterners spirited out of the country on private jets, and a strange pivot about weapons of mass destruction hidden in a country who had no immediately apparent and direct connection with the attack.
For me, FAR too much didn’t add up. I question how we knew what went on in the airliners, including the one about that fellow who charged the cockpit, what the
stewardessflight attendant did with the boiling water, etc.No, I don’t think it was “the joooz” or any of that noise. But, I am also not sure about what we’ve been told.

Yes, our response was dilute and lame. When we had bin Laden trapped in Tora Bora, we attempted to do an “inclusive” operation with our “allies”, when we should have flattened that Warren of pigs (sic) with every MOAB in our inventory.
And a bill that destroyed vast swaths of our domestic liberties, postured as the answer to catching foreign terrorists.

There are ways to criticize the tactical and strategic stupidity and waste of American and civilian lives and resources in the “nation-building” wars in Iraq and Afghanistan — both initiated as responses to the 9/11 attacks — without turning into a useful idiot who is promoting fallacious and dishonest Islamofascist/Muslim supremacist victimhood mythologies and agitprop. The vile Qatarlson didn’t do that, though.

With every “crisis,” elements of the right and left will choose to exploit. Much like Pearl Harbor was used to get into WWII, the 9/11 attacks ushered in Patriot Act, which was a mixed blessing as we traded away freedoms for a bit more perceived security. And with WuFlu, the shutdown itself caused 10 fold the long term damage that simply letting the bug run free till it petered out over the summer.

Tucker is playing a game. He wants to flip the Senate to the Democrats, so they will owe him something. Trump wouldn’t allow Tucker to control the MAGA movement the way the MSM controls the mainstream Democrats, so he is making a power play. Don’t be surprised if Tucker runs for President in 2028 as an 3rd party spoiler, just to help the Democrats.

There’s a case to be made about the absolutely abysmal security failures of 9/11 including the overly permissive granting of permission for ‘students’ to enter the USA, which not only continued but expanded after 9/11. Another could be made against the totalitarian impulses of the security state and its enablers set up in the wake aka Patriot act. Yet another against remaining in Afghanistan after curb stomping the Taliban early on. Same for Iraq. By all means lash out vigorously and violently against our enemies but once they’re effectively defeated and were past just bringing death/destruction we should go home, not ‘rebuild’ much less engage in fruitless nation building truing to import Western Civilization …perhaps if we were ruthless enough to impose it that might work…see Japan, though that took deliberately choosing to create lots of civilian casualties including dropping a couple nukes. Even Germany was wantonly destroyed using fire bombing of cities.
