Tucker Carlson Officially Exits the Republican Party; ‘It’s Immoral … I’m Out’

During an appearance on the Can’t Be Censored podcast last Thursday, Tucker Carlson announced that he has officially parted ways with the Republican Party. After 35 years in the GOP, he said he could no longer support the party. At the same time, Carlson made clear that he has no intention of joining the Democratic Party.
Carlson said:
I would not support the Republican Party. There’s no chance I would support the Republican Party. I’m not going to support the Democratic Party — I’m not sure what I’m going to do.”
How could I or any American voter support a political party that’s not loyal to the United States? That puts the interests of a foreign country above those of its own citizens. It’s not possible to vote for people like that, and I’m not going to.

There’s no defending this, because it’s immoral and it’s exactly the opposite of what a political party in a democracy is charged with doing — which is representing its own voters, its own citizens, its own nation, and they’re not doing that.
So no, I’m out. And if I’m out, then I think a lot of other people are out.

Carlson was, of course, referring to Israel. He claimed that many of President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign donors were more loyal to Israel than to the U.S., and argued that their influence is compelling the president to make decisions that do not serve American interests. He firmly believes that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convinced Trump to strike Iran which he sees as a betrayal of the American people.
He said, “What we know for certain is that the United States went to war with Iran — a war we are losing, that we’ve effectively lost already — because of pressure from … Netanyahu.”
Trump has vehemently denied that Netanyahu persuaded him into going to war. In March, when Carlson first made this claim, Trump said, “If anything, I might’ve forced Israel’s hand.”
Earlier this month, Trump told the Financial Times, “I call the shots. I call all the shots. He [Netanyahu] doesn’t call the shots.”
As President Franklin Roosevelt once noted, “In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.”
So why is Carlson making this announcement now? One possibility is that Carlson is hoping Republicans suffer significant losses in November which would allow him to argue afterward that the party needs new leadership — and that he represents its future.
As crazy as it sounds, Carlson is currently ranked third among potential 2028 Republican presidential contenders on the Kalshi prediction market platform, with odds of 5.4% to win the party’s nomination. Vice President J.D. Vance leads the pack at 41% and Secretary of State Marco Rubio places second with odds of 30%.
We know that Carlson and Vance were once close and likely still are. Carlson was instrumental in Trump’s decision to choose Vance as his running mate. Perhaps he has his eye on a 2028 Vance-Carlson ticket.
Although we cannot know for sure what prompted Carlson to make this announcement, something compelled him to do it. The way he delivered the message suggested a deliberate calculation rather than an off-the-cuff remark.
Whatever Carlson’s ultimate objective may be, his announcement underscores how far he has drifted from the political movement that once embraced him. Over the past year, his rhetoric has grown increasingly erratic and his fixation on Israel has become a defining feature of his commentary. Once one of the most influential voices on the Right, Carlson now often sounds less like a journalist and more like a conspiracy theorist. The Republican Party may have room for critics of its foreign policy, but it is far less clear that it has an appetite for Carlson’s increasingly singular obsessions.

Its rare but not uncommon for rabid partisans to flip out and go from one extreme to the other extreme. One of the reasons they are rabid partisans is they have a delusional grasp of reality which is very much the case of Carlson.

You can’t really call Tucker a journalist. But in truth, he doesn’t fit any category.
In the long term, the Republican party will be better off without him. In the short term his desertion may affect the midterm elections..

Carlson has somehow managed interviews with quite a number of Jewish intellectuals who agree with him. So, perhaps his prediction market standing is not so hard to understand.

Carlson has been a disappointment going down the kooky conspiracy drain all the way to the ‘Jews are running the world behind the scenes’ sewer. In fairness to his point about donor influence he might have a point about Miriam Adelson which even Trump alluded to in his address to the Knesset last fall with a quip that ‘She might love Israel more’ (than the USA).
The only political elections President Trump will care about from now on are the elections other Republicans are running. So, unless campaign finance contributors such as Miriam Adelson are contributing to the elections of Trump-endorsed 2026 Congressional candidates, the contributors have no further influence that is connected to money. When it comes to influence by people outside Potus 47’s administration, it is probably the likes of Hugh Hewitt, Victor Davis Hanson, Mark Levin, and General Jack Keane, and several Members of Congress, who provide insights that Trump trusts.
As for Tump being anti-Islamic Regime, he has been publicly stating that Iran cannot be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon since at least as early as 2011. See,

Adelson reportedly donated $750K to pop up PACs in KY to assist in defeating Massie in his primary … that seems to meet your criteria of ‘unless ….they are contributing to elections of Trump endorsed candidates in 2026 midterms…’ There was in excess of $20 million poured into that KY HoR primary against Massie. That’s politics, its full contact, not two hand touch. He upset some prominent PACs/powerful donors as well as the sitting President and they aligned against him to defeat him. Totally fair for the big donors to deploy those resources as they see fit …though it might have made sense to send some funds to defeat Platner in Maine, El-Sayed in MI and Hamawy in NJ in their primary contests as well.
You won’t find any argument from me against the well documented fact that Trump has long held the position that Iran shouldn’t be allowed to possess nuclear weapon. That is, IMO, the only responsible position on the question of Iranian regime and nukes.

As I stated in a longer reply post yesterday (that hasn’t populated yet for some reason) Adelson gave $750K to a pop up KY PAC to assist in defeating Massie in his primary this Spring. She wasn’t alone as AIPAC and affiliated large donors shoveled more than $25 million into that single House Representatives primary to defeat Massie.
To be very clear that’s hardball politics and political contests are full contact not two hand touch. It is totally legit to seek to oust a politician anyone disagrees with for any reason or no reason at all. I will suggest that given the earlier primary victories of some far more disturbingly dangerous candidates Platner, El-Sayed and Hamawy and now additional victories in NY primaries yesterday that perhaps some of that $25 million might have been better spent attempting to defeat these lunatics. Gonna be tough to continue framing the effort to oust Massie as necessary due to his ‘antisemitism’ when the same folks didn’t spend much or at all to defeat these clearly antisemitic candidates, especially the guy with the Nazi SS totenkopf tattoo in their primary contests.

I believe that anyone who makes this much a turn around of beliefs was never on board with them to begin with. I believe his conservative postings were things he was trying to iron out in is head and he finally decided that he was not a conservative. I would normally hate to see a prominent individual leave the party. But in this case, good riddance to bad rubbish. The Republican Party needs to cleanse itself of every piece of garbage like Tucker Carlson. Regardless of anything else, dump the trash.
Many supported Trump because he pledged to keep us out of useless foreign wars that lead to misery, death, destruction and bankruptcy. He managed to keep that promise in his first term then pulled a 180 in his second term which is inexplicable. Further, he pledged to do something about runaway national spending and has completely failed at that.

Don Jr as investor in Polymarket which needs to be federally regulated but daddy says no (see the outstanding expose in the WSJ yesterday on the abject fraud perpetrated by Polymarket). I’m guessing you watch network news. President Trump was very clear about why he took the action with Iran that he did, and at the time that he did. As for doing something about the runaway spending, he instituted DOGE, has reduced the federal workforce by more than 300, 000 to the lowest level since the 1960s; he eliminated USAID, the funding/laundering source for democrats, and every day there are reports of fraudulent NGOs and others who have been stealing taxpayer dollars for decades, and they are finally being prosecuted
I wouldn’t call that a failure. Can you name any other recent president who has even attempted to. reduce the waste and fraud in the government, and deal head-on with those who wish to do us great harm?

I haven’t been a republican in about 10 years. I’m a conservative. The republicans party hasn’t been conservative in at least that long. Every time the Republican Party would send me a mailer asking for money I would sent the stamped self addressed envelope back and sent a note denying them money and stating they don’t represent and conservative policy, but I’m happy to waste their money sending the envelope back. After about 4 years, they stopped.
