DSA Candidate Scores Stunning Upset Over Alexander Vindman in Florida Senate Primary

DSA Candidate Scores Stunning Upset Over Alexander Vindman in Florida Senate Primary

Nixon was adamantly opposed to the Republicans’ redistricting efforts this spring. In protest, she famously marched through the legislative chamber while shouting into a pink bullhorn.

Democratic socialist candidate and Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon scored a stunning upset victory over her establishment-backed opponent, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, in Tuesday’s Democratic Senate primary. Nixon defeated Vindman 56.1% to 43.9%.

Vindman, you may recall, was the senior National Security Council (NSC) official who listened in on the July 2019 phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and later became then-Rep. Adam Schiff’s (D-CA) star witness in the House impeachment inquiry that followed.

Vindman was considered the odds-on favorite to win. Yet despite being heavily outspent, Nixon won the race by more than 12 points. Ahead of the primary, Nixon’s chances of victory on prediction website Kalshi were less than 10%, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The Journal reported, “Nixon raised just $975,000, according to federal campaign filings, well short of the $16.3 million taken in by Vindman. Heading into election night, she was seen as a heavy underdog.”

So, while Nixon has no chance of winning the general election, her defeat of anti-Trump darling and establishment Democrat Vindman is significant.

Nixon will face Republican incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody in the general election, where she is expected to lose. In fact, immediately after the race was called, election forecasting site Sabato’s Crystal Ball moved the Florida Senate race from “Likely Republican” to “Safe Republican.”

Nixon, 42, was first elected to the Florida statehouse in 2020.

Unsurprisingly, she was adamantly opposed to the Republicans’ redistricting efforts this spring. In protest, she famously marched through the legislative chamber while shouting into a pink bullhorn. Her wildly inappropriate performance can be viewed in the clip below.

According to The Wall Street Journal:

She introduced a Gaza ceasefire bill in 2023 that was defeated by a vote of 104 to 2.

She was arrested for sitting in DeSantis’s office to protest the redistricting. She faces two misdemeanor charges over her governor’s office protest and is due in court next month, according to local court records.

The antisemitic candidate’s platform reads as though it were lifted straight from the DSA playbook.

In the clip below from a June campaign speech, Nixon tells supporters, “We have nothing to lose but our chains.”

Following her victory, Nixon spoke to MS Now’s Jen Psaki where she regurgitated DSA talking points.

In the clip below from Tuesday night, conservative commentator and National Review writer Noah Rothman told a CNN panel, “I mean, I can’t believe we’re all dancing around the news tonight. This is not a Republican story tonight. The story tonight is the DSA overcoming the establishment Democrat …”

He was interrupted by moderator Abby Phillips who said, “We’re not dancing around it, but I appreciate your pivot.”

Rothman continued his thought, ” …overcoming a 16-1 spending advantage and sacrificing what could have been a competitive seat. This is a sacrifice. There’s two things I wouldn’t want to be as a Florida statewide candidate. Anti-Israel and communist-curious. And that’s exactly what Democrats voted for in the Senate tonight. They basically took this race off the board for themselves.”

While Rothman was right about the Senate primary, Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) scored a resounding victory against his DSA-backed challenger, progressive union organizer Oliver Larkin, by a margin of 63.5% to 36.5%.

This race marked the final test this primary cycle for a DSA-backed congressional candidate, following a series of victories in deep-blue districts in New York, Michigan, and Colorado.

While DSA candidates in New York and Colorado are likely to win their races in November, Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed faces a tough fight.

Although Vindman likely would have ultimately lost to Moody in deep-red Florida, Nixon’s defeat in the general election is all but assured.

Traitor Vindman is beat by a commie. His TDS hasn’t served him well. This man was a disgrace to people serving in our military. The man should have had a court martial from the military and not allowed to retire.

I’m convinced that a lot of TDS is pure performance. A technique for OCD theater kids to sharpen the differences and take the heat off themselves. Otherwise they might have to answer questions like “what have you done for us lately?”, but instead, they can say “but Trump!!” when they are really delivering for Establishment financial interests and grift. The Organized Crime Democrats are really in the business of funneling money to their true constituents, while pretending to be for “the little guy”.

As the saying goes, “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth!” That asshole Vindimin would have been a tougher challenge to Republicans holding the Florida U.S. Senate seat. We can turn our attention, and money to more critical races like Ohio.

This was not support for a DSA candidate. It was a loud repudiation of Vindman, a despicable traitor who attempted to take down the POTUS,

That us the definition of delusion. The Democrats supported DSA. Anyone who wanted to repudiate Vindman voted Republican.

When you know your chances of winning depend on a Black Swan, you might as well swing for the fences instead of nominating an Establishment scumbag like Vindman. In a close contest, party loyalists would vote for the scumbag who is more likely to win in November.

I agree. Unfortunately those voters are fully socialist so with no reason not to voted socialist. Everyone who wanted Vindman repudiated participated in the Republican primary. Socialists when given no reason not to vote socialist.

Speaking of delusion. Are you unaware that there are no Republicans running in a Democrat primary?

There was only a 26% turnout in that reliably blue district. Black voters came out for Nixon while traditional blue Democrats sat this primary out.

Hilarious. I absolutely love that Vindman got slapped.

But I do have to slightly disagree on one thing.

“So, while Nixon has no chance of winning the general election, her defeat of anti-Trump darling and establishment Democrat Vindman is significant.”

She has a chance. More and more people are falling under the spell of these communists. Free this. Free that. Who knows who’ll pay for it. Everyone angry at Trump. Then throw in the anti-Isreal stuff. It’s slowly spreading across the country like a cancer.

I would love to say she’d be crushed but she still managed to rack up 705,192 votes state wide in a primary.

I’ll definitely be voting for Moody but I think it’s wrong to assume a slam dunk.

Vindman thought it would be a slam dunk too…

I agree she has a chance, but it is mainly because midterms are always tilted towards the opposition and Trump has been underwater since Liberation Day. I do however hope she loss.

It’s never a sure thing. Republicans still have to show up at the polls. Don’t forget the cheat factor. If the Democrats think they’re going to lose, desperation could set in and all the rules are out the window.

I think the unreported news last night is Republicans now have an identical clone of the DSA with the same repulsive agenda but it is 20 years behind the Democrats DSA.

10.5% voted for Fishback. Unfortunately we (Republicans) have a DSA equivalent now.

Here are all the numbers you could see here https://hotair.com/ed-morrissey/2026/08/18/live-primary-results-debbie-downer-rides-again-in-fl-plus-alaska-and-wyoming-n3818094 socialist who ran on anti-Semitism got 10.5% of the vote for governor on the Republican side.

You could continue to gaslight about the rise of Tucker Carlson all you want you are walking talking POS for doing so.

10.5% of the primary voted for socialism with a side of anti-Semitism while a group of socialists based around Tucker Carlson have set up shop explicitly following the same path as the DSA.

Glad to know you love socialism even when they use anti-Semitic scapegoating as their selling point.

You delude yourself about what I love — among lots of other things — and your obsessive, reflex slanders are tiresome.

Your earlier comment that “Republicans now have an identical [sic] clone of the DSA with the same repulsive agenda” led me to believe that you had evidence that communism (not antisemitism) was a problem in the GOP.

I’m aware of the groypers and the antisemites, and their strange attraction to Naziism — not communism or even socialism.

You point to an article with barely one mention of Fishback, and that’s as a poll cheater. Nothing about any sociaist tendencies.

Meanwhile, a web search for Fishback and socialism brings up nothing but mentions of Fishback criticizing socialist talking points… for example:

Fishback and Fuentes represent a new insurgent right-wing that, while a minority, purports a nationalist populist platform centered around affordability, tightening immigration reform, and ending US involvement in foreign affairs. According to the new right-wing, Trump’s administration has failed to effectively implement mass deportations, end foreign wars, and make America more affordable – representing a degradation of the populist MAGA movement into an dishonest, ineffective establishment.

The words “identical” and “same” don’t mean “both anti-Israel,” which is what you apparently think it means.

This is what’s really going on — not what you claim is going on.

One nit to pick, Vindman is U.S. Army and not U.S. Air Force. As an AF retiree, I take offense.

Vindman would have lost to a wheelbarrow full of cow manure, not to mention that he’s far more odious.

I had the opportunity to hear him attempt to participate in committee hearings. He not only was ill informed, he was trying mightily to grandstanding – and failing mightily.

Let’s hope that Nixon matches Vindman’s fecklessness.

I don’t care that she was born here; she should be stripped of her US Citizenship for lying when previously taking an Oath of Office, which no doubt included a pledge of fidelity to the US and state Constitutions.

And, Vindman “wore the uniform” but I doubt ever renounced his allegiance to ukraine; and even if he did his past actions should be sufficient for a retroactive “dishonorable discharge” and de-naturalization.

These United States will continue to dissolve into “balkanized” sh!tholes until “breaches of oaths”, “allegiance to enemies and other nations (theocracies)”, and “lying by elected and public officials” are grounds for severe consequences, e.g., loss of citizenship (even if that renders the “enemy” stateless; forfeiture of all accumulated wealth; incarceration; deportation (if only, to the middle of the nearest ocean); …

Two “Enemy Alien, Invaders” … Let’s get rid of them; it would not be an infringement of their First Amendment protections or “due process”.

There’s two takes on this, and I’m not sure which is right (if either)
–First is the DNC actually thought Tubby could win the seat, if they shipped him to FL, poured cash into his campaign from Never Trump wealthy donors, and ran on the Whatever Trump Is For, We’re Against platform.
–Second is the Payoff Strategy. Vindman was a prime factor in the first bogus Trump impeachment. He committed perjury for them by going straight to Schiff, then quickly backtracking and pretending to be a whistleblower even though he had no whistle. The DNC owes him, and the book deal/bribe from Harper Collins was five years ago, for peanuts. So they set him up as a carpetbagger, flood his campaign with cash, he only spends about half of it, and now he has a bankroll. Other candidates can bring him in, treat him like royalty, and receive money transfers from his bag of booty until it’s gone, or more likely the leftover cash is invested so the proceeds can take him places to ‘campaign’ for decades to come. Hillary is his role model, after all.

I am pretty confident that no DSA type can win statewide in Florida.
Now we need to defeat his idiot brother in Virginia.

The piece mentions that Kalshi had a 10% chance. As I mentioned a few times before, the model used by Kalshi is wrong. Voting is not random, and using a Gaussian distribution and tools for analysis of Gaussian distribution when looking at voting will always be incorrect. Sometimes spectacularly so.

Seems to be there is another article nearby describing the poor state of mathematical education.
