The U.S., early Sunday morning, launched strikes against Iranian military targets as the Islamic Guard (IRGC) claimed that it has closed the Strait of Hormuz “indefinitely.”
U.S. strikes targeted Iran’s coastal region, destroying naval assets, missile installations, and drone facilities in response to ongoing IRGC attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Central Command (CENTCOM), U.S. forces “completed a third round of strikes this week against Iran, July 11, holding Iranian forces accountable for attacking another commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz.”
They “hit approximately 140 Iranian military targets with precision munitions launched by land- and sea-based fighter aircraft, drones, and naval vessels. Targets included Iranian missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks, and coastal surveillance locations,” CENTCOM added.
By resorting to aggression, the regime “had made a poor choice,” Secretary of War Pete Hegseth observed on X.
Amid attacks on cargo ships and tankers, Iran declared that it has “taken control” of the Strait of Hormuz. On Saturday night, the IRGC struck a container ship in the waterway. “An Iranian official has said the country has ‘taken control of the Strait of Hormuz with power’ after a Cyprus-flagged ship was attacked in the key shipping route,” Sky News reported Sunday.
Escalating the conflict further, the IRGC launched missile and drone attacks against Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates on Sunday. “Iran launched missiles and drones at its Gulf neighbours this morning in retaliation to a number of US strikes and announced the closure of the strategic strait of Hormuz until further notice,” The Guardian reported Sunday. “Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and the UAE all reportedly came under attack. Qatar said three people, including a child, had been injured by falling shrapnel but there were no immediate reports of any casualties.”
On Sunday evening, Iranian state media reported alleged U.S strikes on the strategically located island of Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz.

Just days after burying Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Iranian regime is ramping up military aggression. During the weeklong, state-managed funeral, regime officials and loyalists repeatedly called for revenge against the U.S. and its allies.
Along with Khamenei, the 14-point ceasefire agreement seems to have been buried as well. Following repeated Iranian violations, President Donald Trump declared on Wednesday that the truce is “over.” In a written message, Iran’s new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, on Saturday pledged to “avenge” the killing of his father, suggesting that the regime had no interest in negotiating a deal with the U.S.
